Foreign Affairs / China Has Developed Ai Air Combat That Can Explain Decisions It Makes by Officiallyrazz(f): 2:31pm On May 14
Led by Zhang Dong, an associate professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University's aeronautics school, a team has created an advanced AI combat system. This system can communicate instructions to the flight controller in plain language, supported by data and visuals like charts.

Additionally, it can explain the importance of each instruction within the ongoing combat scenario, detailing the maneuvers required and the tactical reasoning behind them.

Zhang's team discovered that this technology provides a fresh way for human pilots to engage with AI. For example, in a post-simulation review, an experienced pilot can spot the reasons behind the AI's mistakes. Through effective feedback, the AI learns from human input and avoids making similar errors in future battles.

Zhang's team discovered that AI capable of heartfelt communication can achieve almost perfect success rates with just 20,000 rounds of combat training. On the other hand, traditional "black box" AI needs around 50,000 rounds to reach a 90% success rate and faces challenges in further improvement.

Zhang's team has currently used the technology in ground simulators only. However, they expressed in a peer-reviewed paper published on April 12 in the Chinese academic journal, Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica, that they plan to expand its use to more realistic air combat settings in the future.

Phones / Japan Unlock The Key To Cheap Hydrogen Fuel Production by Officiallyrazz(f): 10:34pm On May 13
Researchers at the RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science (CSRS) in Japan have found a way to make hydrogen fuel more affordable. They mixed a little manganese with much rarer iridium, a costly metal usually used for making hydrogen.

This combination led to a remarkable 95% decrease in the amount of iridium needed. Cutting down this amount of iridium, the primary catalyst, doesn't noticeably impact hydrogen production.

This finding tackles the problem of iridium shortage, which makes producing hydrogen fuel more cost-effective. As this breakthrough progresses, it could lead to using hydrogen fuel on a larger scale as a green option to fossil fuels, using plentiful resources like water.

Car Talk / China Makes Their Own Version Of Cybrtruck by Officiallyrazz(f): 1:34pm On May 10
At the flashy Beijing Auto Show, Dongfeng showcased their version of the Cybertruck. It might not go into production, but Chinese carmakers often create unusual vehicles, so this electric truck could show up on roads soon.

The truck seems to use Dongfeng's electric platform, boasting an impressive 1,305 horsepower, surpassing even Tesla's top CyberBeast model.

Dongfeng's designers clearly drew inspiration from the Cybertruck. Their version has smoother edges than Tesla's and likely doesn't use stainless steel for the body panels. It features an LED light bar upfront that can show different images, a lit-up logo, and a tough skid plate. Plus, it has a small front trunk (frunk).

Checking out the truck from the side reveals cool stuff. It's got rear doors that open uniquely, retractable steps, sleek wheel covers, and tough tires. And at the back, Dongfeng showed off a tent that pops out from the bed, keeping the Cybertruck vibes going. Inside, you'll find a square steering wheel and displays stretching across the dashboard. The seats look wild, with what seems like carbon fiber on the backrests.
