The Nigerian Army has denied reports that its soldiers arrested a suspected notorious cult leader, popularly known as Bobrisky in Gokana local government area of Rivers State.

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike while addressing leaders of Rumuolumeni community at the Government House last Friday, announced that soldiers had arrested Bobrisky.

The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Division, Colonel Aminu Illiyasu, said soldiers did not arrest the suspected cult leader or any other cultist in Gokana local government area.

Illiyasu said: “We don’t know what they are talking about. If such thing has happened, I would have been the first to inform you.

When we got Don Wanny, I sent you pictures and the statement as early as 4:00am in the morning, because I couldn’t get all of you to come and take pictures yourself”.

When we got Mene, I sent the statement and pictures to you even before you started calling me. But, the issue of Bobrisky, we don’t know anything about it”.

If the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army was involved, I wouldn’t have waited for you to call before passing the information to you.”

Recall Wike had while handing over vehicles to security agencies on Thursday placed a N30 million bounty on Bobrisky. He later announced that the suspected cultist had been arrested by soldiers less than 24 hours after his promise to reward anybody with information that could lead to his arrest.

The governor states that “The Army has captured Bobrisky of Gokana. I will pay the bounty that I promised to the Nigerian Army. Anyone who generates insecurity in Rivers State, I am ready to pay any amount to ensure the arrest of that person.”

Army’s denial raises pertinent question of the authenticity of Govenor Wike’s claims.

The Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) Limited, has announced plan to provide training for 100,000 youths by the year 2020 across Nigeria, under its programme, ‘Youth Empowered Nigeria.’

The company which produces the popular soft drink, Coca Cola, said the training for the youths would address the challenges of unemployment.

Speaking at a three-day training session which ended in Calabar, Cross River State recently, the Public Affairs and Communications Director of the NBC, Mr. Ekuma Eze, said: “It is a programme that is developed to support the young people between the ages of 18 and 30 years to build life skills, business skills and long life networks to enable them transit to meaningful employment.”

Eze, said the training session in Calabar, the ninth in the series would involve the training of 500 youths at the first instance.

In his address, the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, who was represented by HRH Etubom Edem Ita Essien, tasked the participants to take advantage of the opportunity offered to them by NBC to imbibe the necessary skills and networks that would enable them become self-employed, and employers of labour in the near future.

The monarch expressed gratitude to the NBC for taking a bold step towards reducing unemployment among the growing youth population in country, especially in Cross River State.

Speaking to journalists at the sidelines of the event, Eze said it was the plan of Coca Cola Hellenic to impact of one million youths by 2025 across the 28 countries where it has operations, with 100,000 of such youths coming from Nigeria which is one of its strongest operational bases.

Nigeria, being a key market in the Hellenic Group is expected to reach the greatest number of youths by 2020. The program is expected to run through two different but complementary channels: Live training workshops and e-learning modules on the platform of the digital hub.

The live training workshop comprises of a one-day life workshop and three days Business skills workshop, all running at a stretch”, Eze said.

He said one of the key components of the programme was mentorship that would involve the training of the youths by system associates and external resource persons who possess the knowledge, experience and passion for impacting young people with skills and positive values.

The business skills workshop is designed to prepare participants with essential skills for the business environment. Here, participants are expected to acquire skills to approach a business context, acquire basically language and essential knowledge to run own business while, the Digital Hub provides opportunities for participants who are unable to attend the live workshops go through the same experience and training online. “This innovative offering provides the training curriculum through e-learning and networking opportunities,” Eze said.

He disclosed that the NBC has mainstreamed community Trust into its corporate strategy and this drives the business to invest time, expertise and resources in locally relevant initiatives to facilitate socio-economic development of communities.

Describing the 2019 Convention as a mighty and prophetic one never seen before, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Church, had in July promised participants some of the first things God said to man

God said to man “he is blessed, he will be fruitful, multiply and have dominion.

Pastor Adeboye prophesized that participants who have challenges in those areas of life will be relieved of them at the Convention.

On Monday morning, the 12,811 Deacons and Deaconesses were ordained in the tradition of the church.

The church’s National Overseer, Pastor Joseph Obayemi, presented the candidates to the General Overseer for ordination to help in the growth of the church and in service to God.

The candidates were so many that the ordination was done in batches with senior ministers taking turn to lay hands on them.
The number of those ordained on Monday was 1,563 higher than the figure of last year when the Pastor Adeboye ordained 11,258 deacons and deaconesses, drawn from various parishes of the church.

Explaining the process of ordination, Adeboye said: “In the Redeemed Christian Church of God, ordination is done by laying of hands, proclamation and prayers.”

The candidates filed out in batches for hand-laying by Pastor Adeboye’s senior assistants.

Making the proclamation later, he said: “Every time God speaks, it is a declaration of His will, power and purpose concerning the situation.

He is never ambiguous or deceptive.
You can bet on every word from him.
Jesus is dependable and will not lie nor deceive.
Therefore, every word of God spoken to you or read from the scriptures is infallible, it cannot be stopped, it cannot be hindered and it cannot be broken.

We ordain you as Deacons and Deaconesses in the Redeemed Christian Church of God in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Almighty himself will overshadow you; the Holy Spirit will be your strength; whatever you ask to come will come; whatever you ask to go will go.

You will not fall; you will not fail. God Himself will use you for His Glory; and in the Kingdom of God you will not be found missing.”

Adeboye also prayed for them.
The ordination of the Assistant Pastors on Tuesday morning followed the same pattern, while the ordination of 1,885 as Full Pastors will hold on Sunday.

The ordination was one of the resolutions of the Governing Council of the RCCG at the end of the 2018/2019 calendar year.

UMUAHIA-Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has lauded the 2019 Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, for calling for a revolution in Nigeria, describing the call as the highest form of bravery.

Kanu, however, stated that Sowore’s arrest by the DSS and the attempts by security agencies to stop the RevolutionNow protest was an affront to decency, justice and fair play.

Nnamdi stated that it should bother right thinking Nigerians on how an action that was described as a right just five years ago, suddenly became a treasonable offence under the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

Kanu, who was referring to the ‘salvation rally’ of 2014 where President Buhari, former APC national Chairman, John Odigie Oyegun, former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi led thousands of party faithful in a protest rally in Abuja, said it defiles logic why the FG termed Sowore’s call for protest illegal and treasonable.

He said it is laughable that the same set of persons who in 2014 called for a revolution and organized a nationwide street protest against the democratically elected government of Goodluck Jonathan now see similar move as a treasonable offence under their own regime

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has stated that Omoyele Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, ought to have been arraigned in court since his arrest.

Recall Sowore was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, August 3rd by operatives of the Department of State Services in Lagos.

According to the DSS, Sowore was arrested on account of a planned RevolutionNow protest which he had spearheaded.

Speaking with PUNCH on Tuesday, August 6th, Falana said, by law, a suspect should be arraigned within 48 hours of arrest.

On what he plans on doing about the extended detention of the human rights activist, Falana said he has sent lawyers to the DSS and he is now awaiting their response.

Two people have been reportedly killed after gunmen stormed a commercial bank in Iju, Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State, on Tuesday.

The armed men who were said to have stormed Wema bank on Tuesday’s afternoon were confronted by men of the Nigeria Army as well as police officers.

It was reports that the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie confirmed the incident, adding that his men were able to foil the operation.

Our men are currently trailing the robbers in the bush.
