City stepped up a gear following the interval and Grealish broke the deadlock within 193 seconds of emerging from the bench when he headed home Kevin De Bruyne’s cross on the hour mark.

Bruno Fernandes scored despite the presence of Marcus Rashford in an offside position, City's protests that he had interfered with play ignored despite the flag going up.

Napoli powered to a ten-point lead in the Serie A title race as they dished out a 5-1 battering of Juventus, who suffered their heaviest league defeat for 30-years.
The hosts had Massimiliano Allegri’s side on the ropes throughout, and would have won by an even greater margin, were it not for some good goalkeeping and, at times, poor finishing.

Arsenal second half energy were enough to thrash Oxford at home by 3-0 as Arteta sides move to next round of FA Cup.
Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah goals were enough for Arsenal to advance.

Saka was denied the opener with a clearance off the line early into the second half.


Fabio Vieira ran onto a long ball over the top of the Oxford defence and flicked the ball cheekily back to the England international,

who cut inside and beat Edward McGinty with his low shot, but saw his effort turned behind for a corner.

Arsenal finally broke the deadlock through Elneny who powered home a pinpoint Vieira free kick in the 63rd minute.

Seven minutes later, Arsenal had a second as Nketiah continued his impressive goalscoring form.

Vieira played an inch-perfect through ball to the forward, who took the ball around McGinty and slotted it home into an empty net.

Nketiah delicately dinked the ball over McGinty six minutes later for his second and Arsenal’s third, as Mikel Arteta’s side booked their place in the fourth round.

An early goal can often be the precursor to a rout in these ‘David vs Goliath’ fixtures, but that wasn’t the case as the hosts fought tooth and nail to keep their elite opponents at bay.

Arsenal's victory at Brighton ensures they go seven points clear at top of league after draws for rivals earlier

The Gunners took barely a minute to take the lead when Gabriel Martinelli's deflected shot fell into the path of Saka who provided his customary precise first touch and cool finish.

This advantage was doubled, a little fortuitously when, after a corner was half-cleared, Martin Odegaard's shot into the ground bounced into the top corner.

The lead was three early in the second half when Martinelli shot from a tight angle was parried by Robert Sanchez into the path of Eddie Nketiah who made no mistake from close range.

Brighton pulled a goal back from a smart finish from Kaoru Mitoma but a wonderful forty-yard through-ball from Odegaard put through Martinelli to extend the lead.

The hosts kept battling though and pulled a goal back from Evan Ferguson's first goal for the club and had another from Mitoma disallowed.

Barcelona returned to the top of La Liga with a 1-1 draw against Espanyol but will consider two points dropped in a match which saw two red cards.

The Azulgrana dominated the early stages and should have had more reward than their solitary goal from Marcos Alonso in the seventh minute.

In the second half the game appeared to drifting when Espanyol won a penalty from nowhere 17 minutes from time as Alonso inadvertently stood on the heel of Joselu.

The veteran striker got up to slot home the penalty before a crazy end to the game where seven yellow cards were handed out and Jordi Alba and Vinicius Souza were sent off.

Referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz appeared to have sent off two Espanyol players only for VAR to intervene after some delay to reduce it to just one.

Espanyol were grateful to goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez for a string of fine saves late on to keep the scores level.

Barcelona are ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference, while Espanyol raise a position to 16th.

Manchester United move into the top four for the first time since mid-March.

United best chances fell to Alejandro Garnacho whose shot was well saved by Jose Sa and the keeper also kept out Antony's close-range header on the stroke of half time.

Ten Hag brought on Rashford at the break, with Antony Martial and Antony lucky not to be replaced, while the home side brought on Adama Traore and both made an impact.

Ruben Neves went close with a trademark curling freekick which David De Gea saved.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until Rashford punished some slack defending from Nathan Collins and Jonny to bulldoze his way into the box and score.

Rashford thought he netted his second in the closing stages but it was disallowed by VAR for a handball in the buildup.

Wolves came close in injury time through Raul Jimenez, but couldn't find an equaliser.

Real Madrid moved top of La Liga with an unconvincing 2-0 win against 10-man Real Valladolid.
Inside the first 15 minutes Madrid were denied a penalty despite Javi Sanchez’s apparent handball, with Carlo Ancelotti left furious at the decision.

Minutes later Karim Benzema blazed over the bar from point-blank range, then Antonio Rudiger headed wide.


Valladolid had been stretched almost to breaking but from midway through the first half they were the dominant side.
Thibaut Courtois denied Alvaro Aguado’s curling effort shortly before the break,


while the hosts had a penalty appeal of their own turned down before another Aguado chance.

On the hour mark, Valladolid lost both Roque Mesa and Julian Escudero to injury, while Madrid introduced Lucas Vazquez and Rodrygo.

Another trio of brilliant Courtois saves were required to keep the scores level with 20 minutes to play.

With 10 minutes to play, Rudiger headed onto the arm of Sanchez and this time the VAR intervened to award the champions a late penalty. In the furious aftermath, Sergio Leon was sent off.


Benzema stepped up to convert the spot kick after a long wait.

Shortly afterwards Benzema wrapped up the victory with his second goal, courtesy of a Luka Modric cameo, to give Madrid possession of top spot in La Liga.

Both sides threatened during the second half but lacked quality in front of goal, as Liverpool managed to see out the game and wrap up all three points.

Kylian Mbappe scored a 96th-minute penalty as Paris Saint-Germain snatched a 2-1 win over struggling Strasbourg after Neymar was sent off for diving.
The game struggled to get going in the first half, Strasbourg pressed Paris Saint-Germain high up the pitch, committing lots of fouls to try and stop the home side from getting into their stride.

Marquinhos gave the home side the lead after 14 minutes, heading home from a Neymar free-kick.

Neymar was growing increasingly frustrated and in a period of just two minutes he was sent off.

He was shown a yellow card on 61 minutes for throwing a flailing arm at Thomasson and just a minute later the Brazilian received a second yellow for diving in the box.


Strasbourg grew in confidence from this point, going forward against PSG’s 10 men.

PSG began to push forward in search of a winner late on and snatched victory thanks to Mbappe’s penalty.

Manchester City back to second on the table as Erling Haaland scored his 20th Premier League goal of the season a 3-1 victory over Leeds United.

Rodri’s goal on the stroke of half-time gave City the breakthrough and Haaland registered on the scoresheet twice in the second half.

Pascal Struijk grabbed a consolation for Leeds.

The early signs were ominous for Leeds as Haaland was slipped in with less than a minute on the clock but was repelled by Illan Meslier, who would go on to have a busy night.

Haaland spurned an excellent chance for a hat-trick, and, at the opposite end, Joe Gelhardt almost set up a grandstand finish with a shot that went just wide.

Chelsea end winless run as they defear Bournemouth by 2-0 goal by Havertz and Mount.

Graham Potter’s side scored both goals before the break as they put in a dominant display, avoiding a fourth-straight Premier League defeat in the process.

Liverpool made a winning return to Premier League action as they restarted their bid to force their way into the top four with an entertaining victory over Aston Villa.
Liverpool took the lead on five minutes when Salah tucked home his 16th goal of the season after brilliant play from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

Darwin Nunez missed a series of gilt-edged openings in the first period for the away team and then dragged another big chance wide 12 minutes from the end.

However, the Uruguayan’s persistence paid off soon after when his cross-shot was parried into the path of substitute Stefan Bajcetic, who side-stepped Robin Olsen before slotting home.

The result means sixth-placed Liverpool have won three top-flight matches on the spin for the first time this season and are now five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand. Villa stay 12th.

Tottenham came from behind to earn a point at Brentford and almost won it when heading against the bar in the closing stages.
Brentford took a deserved lead when Mathias Jensen’s deflected shot could only be pushed by Fraser Forster into the path of Vitaly Janelt who slotted home gleefully.


Their lead was doubled when Christian Norgaard flicked Bryan Mbeumo‘s corner into the path of Ivan Toney who nudged home from three yards out.

There looked no way back for Tottenham until 20 minutes into the second half when Clement Lenglet put in a deep cross from the left flank which Kane rose to head superbly home.


Six minutes later the game was level when Dejan Kulusevski pulled back for Pierre Hojbjerg who smashed home.

Five minutes from time, Kane did brilliantly to beat Bees keeper David Raya to a cross and was unlucky to see his flicked header come back off the crossbar.

Spurs pushed again for a winner but both sides had to settle for a draw in a pulsating match.

Argentina have won the World Cup for a third time, requiring a penalty shootout to do so when an epic contest with France finished 3-3 after extra-time.

La Albiceleste led 2-0 and then 3-2 in extra time, but were pegged back before Gonzalo Montiel secured a 4-2 success in the shoot-out after Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni failed from the spot for Les Bleus.

Messi, 35, had suggested this showdown for the trophy would be his World Cup swansong,

and he fittingly rose to the occasion when he converted a clinical penalty on 23 minutes.

It saw him become the first man ever to score in every round of a single World Cup.

France had been aiming to become the first team in 60 years to retain the trophy,

but they were second best for long spells and it was no surprise when Argentina claimed a 2-0 advantage heading into the interval.

Angel Di Maria was recalled to the side for this final and repaid manager Lionel Scaloni’s decision with a vibrant display, earning the penalty for the opener before finishing off a flowing team move on 36 minutes.

The match had been billed as a potential passing of the torch between Messi and his Paris-Saint Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe,

but the Frenchman was peripheral for much of the contest until a blur of brilliance turned the game on its head inside 90 seconds.

Mbappe converted an 80th-minute penalty before exchanging a lovely one-two and volleying home a dramatic equaliser just seconds later.

Croatia defeat Brazil in penalty shootout to reach the World Cup semi-finals.

At the Education City stadium, tournament favourites Brazil were expected to sweep aside a Croatian team who had failed to score in half their games in Qatar to that point.

But in the first-half it was the underdogs who had the upper-hand, with the influential midfield of Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic controlling the play and stopping Brazil from creating anything.

That all changed after the break, with the South Americans much improved, though they were unable to break the deadlock thanks in large to Croatia keeper Dominik Livakovic.

Neymar was twice denied the chance to take the lead while Livakovic also made several great saves from Lucas Paqueta and Vinicius Jr.

Into extra-time, Brazil continued to press by Croatia continued to hold firm, with clear cut

 chances few and far between, until Brozovic wasted a huge opportunity, blazing over from the edge of the box after some superb play from Bruno Petkovic.

And then, just as the first-half of extra-time was ending, Neymar played an incredible one-two with Paqueta before dancing round Livakovic and firing home from close range.

The 30-year-old’s goal means he has now gone level with the legendary Pele as Brazil’s all-time top scorer.

Croatia responded in the dying minutes, with Petkovic’s deflected strike, his side’s only shot on target, finishing off a slick counter-attack.

That took things to a penalty shootout where young Rodrygo had Brazil’s first penalty saves while Croatia dispatched each of their spot-kicks past Liverpool No.1 Alisson.
