It was a dramatic conclusion to a match that did not produce any goals in normal or extra time with penalties the only way to decide the semi-final contest.

Arsenal scored two late goals to save their Premier League title hopes but dropped more points in a thrilling 3-3 draw with bottom-placed Southampton.

Early strikes from Carlos Alcaraz and Theo Walcott were not in the script for the table-toppers, who cut the deficit in half through Gabriel Martinelli before the Saints restored their two-goal advantage through Duje Caleta-Car.

But Arsenal haven’t sat top of the league for the best part of eight months for nothing.

Inter Milan are through to a first Champions League semi-final since 2010 after beating Benfica 5-3 on aggregate.

A 3-3 draw at San Siro this evening has seen them progress comfortably from a quarter-final in which they were always in complete control of.

Inter took the lead after 14 minutes thanks to a superb finish from Nicolo Barella.

Inter killed the tie off in the 65th minute when Federico Dimarco put the ball on a plate for Lautaro Martinez who was there to tap home and score his first Champions League goal since October.

Joaquin Correa scored just minutes after coming on, the 28-year-old dropping his shoulder to go past Nicolas Otamendi before firing an effort past Odysseas Vlachodimos and into the bottom corner.

Benfica grabbed two late consolations with Antonio Silva headed home from Alejandro Grimaldo‘s free-kick and then Petar Musa netted in injury-time.

Manchester City eased through to the Champions League semi-finals as a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich proved more than enough to set up a last-four tie with Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola‘s side were almost winners in Munich, with Erling Braut Haaland making up for an earlier penalty miss by netting in the 57th minute of the contest, but Joshua Kimmich converted a late spot kick to level the scores on the night.

Bayern caused City plenty of problems early on down the right, with Kinglsey Coman having the beating of Nathan Ake, but it was straight through the middle that their first big chance came.

Jamal Musiala slid a pass through, Leroy Sane was away but his dinked effort rolled wide of the far post.

Kimmich stepped up for the home side to score, firing straight down the middle, with the home team given a glimmer of hope.

Real Madrid booked their spot in the Champions League semi finals with a smash and grab 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Carlo Ancelotti’s holders were far from their best but made the hosts pay for their failure to take a raft of good opportunities when

Rodrygo fired in from close-range just shy of the hour and then again 10 minutes from time as the visitors claimed a 4-0 success on aggregate.

Chelsea played with a real intensity in a first-half performance that belied their Premier League woes and they should have taken an early lead when N’Golo Kante skewed a gilt-edged chance wide on 11 minutes.


Real relied on occasional counter attacks with Rodrygo hitting the outside of the post from a narrow angle and Vinicius Jr horribly miscuing a volley from Luka Modric’s inviting, low cross.

Marc Cucurella then blew the biggest opportunity in first-half stoppage time when he was left completely free at the far post but fired too close to Thibaut Courtois, who made a brilliant reaction save.

Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both scored twice as Liverpool recorded a 6-1 victory over relegation-threatened Leeds United in Monday’s Premier League clash at Elland Road.
The Reds had not won since putting seven unanswered goals past Manchester United at the start of March, but after a slow start they ruthlessly dismantled hapless Leeds.

The home side claimed Trent Alexander-Arnold used an arm to control the ball but he then drove forward to set up Cody Gakpo for the opener before Salah fired in from an angle to put the visitors in control.

Leeds were given hope after the break when Luis Sinisterra dispossessed ponderous Ibrahima Konate and cleverly chipped the ball past Alisson.

However Liverpool quickly responded through Jota’s neat finish – the Portugal forward’s first goal since April 2022.


After seeing a goal ruled out for offside, Salah then slotted home at the end of a superb move to put the game to bed before Jota grabbed his own second from a Jordan Henderson cross.

Substitute Darwin Nunez completed the rout with a neat side-foot finish against a shambolic Whites side, who conceded five last weekend at home to Crystal Palace and now have the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

On an encouraging night for the visitors, there was also a return to action for Luis Diaz, making his first appearance since October as a late substitute.

Arsenal threw away a two-goal lead for the second weekend running as they were held to a 2-2 draw by West Ham United.

The Gunners made the perfect start and were 2-0 up inside 10 minutes, first through Gabriel Jesus who tapped in at the end of a crisp move and later Martin Odegaard whose close-range volley also followed good build-up play.

West Ham offered nothing in the opening half an hour and the London Stadium was growing frustrated, but then Thomas Partey gifted the home side a lifeline by trying an ill-judged flick.

Madrid recorded a 2-0 victory over 10-man Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Bernabeu.

Chelsea had a huge chance to take the lead after just three minutes when N’Golo Kante released Joao Felix with a great pass and the Portuguese international burst through on goal before firing an effort at Thibaut Courtois.

However they were punished when the home side took the lead after 21 minutes thanks to Karim Benzema.

Dani Carvajal clipped a ball over the top for Vinicius Junior who stretched out a leg to meet the ball, his effort was pushed back into play by Kepa Arrizabalaga and Benzema was waiting to tap home into an empty net.

Just two minutes later Chelsea came close to equalising with their best chance of the half.

Reece James fizzed a ball across for Raheem Sterling who was on hand to divert an effort goalwards but Courtois got down in a flash to pull off a stunning save to protect Real’s lead.

Chelsea were given a mountain to climb when Ben Chilwell was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul on Rodrygo.

Substitute Marco Asensio made it 2-0 to defending European champions 15 minutes from time, Vinicius Jr rolled the ball to the Spaniard on the edge of the box from a corner and he was able to rifle his effort low and hard into the bottom corner.

Manchester United lay siege to the visiting goal throughout a lively first period and deservedly broke the deadlock on 36 minutes when McTominay fired home Jadon Sancho’s pass to net his first league goal of the season.

United could have been out of sight at the interval with Jordan Pickford pulling off a series of excellent one-on-one saves while

but the Spanish goalkeeper stood up tall to brilliantly save the shot and keep his side ahead.

Manchester United continued to push for the second goal to seal the victory but were unable to find it.

Rodrygo fired in a cross and Benzema with his back to goal did wonderfully to improvise and hook the ball into the back of the net.

Tempers flared after the final bell as the two fighters squared up to each other, prompting their teams to enter the ring and be separated by security.

It is Joshua’s first win in more than two years, having lost consecutive bouts to Oleksandr Usyk.

Ansu Fati embarked on a superb solo run resulting in a fierce effort past Badia and into the back of the net.

The visitors made it 3-0 shortly after, Lewandowski was on hand to latch onto Gavi’s pass and thump his effort past Badia.

Barcelona then scored their fourth and final goal in the 70th minute, Ferran Torres

capped off a superb individual performance by drilling home his first La Liga goal since October 2022.

France blow Netherlands away as they got their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign underway with a 4-0 victory.

Playing their first game since losing the World Cup final on penalties to Argentina,

Didier Deschamps’ side were in stunning form, as Antoine Griezmann and new captain Kylian Mbappe were both on the scoresheet.

Les Bleus could barely have made a better start, finding the back of the net after less than two minutes as Griezmann fired into the bottom corner from Mbappe’s pass.

That lead was doubled shortly afterwards as the Atletico Madrid star turned provider, whipping in a free-kick for Dayot Upamecano to squeeze home

Mbappe added a third on 21 minutes, stroking into the bottom corner after Randal Kolo Muani had dummied Aurelien Tchouameni’s through ball,

and he arguably should have grabbed another on the half hour mark when hooking Jules Kounde’s cross over the bar.

The Dutch were on the ropes to such an extent that Ronald Koeman was forced into a first-half sub,

replacing debutant Kenneth Taylor with Wout Weghorst, and the change of shape at least gave them more defensive solidity.

However, there was to be no way back into the game for the visitors, who created very little going forward, apart from a Memphis Depay free-kick which was saved by Mike Maignan.

At the other end, Mbappe was denied by Jasper Cillessen with a shot from inside the box that was too close to the ‘keeper, while Moussa Diaby had a goal ruled out for offside.

The fourth finally came with two minutes left, and it was no surprise that Mbappe got it, thumping into the far corner from just outside the box to round off a wonderful evening for the hosts.

Netherlands' evening was summed up when Maignan saved a penalty from Depay in injury time.

Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for the most international caps as Portugal beat Liechtenstein by 4-0

Ronaldo converted a 51st-minute penalty – his first goal against the tiny Alpine principality – as the home side went 3-0 up after being only one goal ahead at the break.

He would then go on to score a blistering free kick from the edge of the penalty area to make complete his brace as Portugal went on to win 4-0.

The strikes extended Ronaldo’s record for the most goals in international football to 120, although he had earlier missed gilt-edged chances when he skied the ball in front of goal and glanced a header wide.
