The likes of Jalaludden Rumi, the master of higher poetry, described it in lines and stanzas with poetic figures where plain words failed. The mystics see God in the dance of trees and the musical flow of water. Nature is one of the many ways they use to create channels for communication with God. Through intuition and inspiration, Rumi saw what eyes couldn’t see in the movements of clouds and the fall of rain. This is why Sufi masters think that removing what is natural and replacing it with artificial is tantamount to destroying the aesthetic beauty of the nature and doing great damage not only to the climate but to the channels of revelations. Ibnul Arabi aptly described it in his magnum opus “Futuhat Almakiyya”, and Sayyed Hussein Nasr quotes him often in his books. What a sage!

Nigeria is to focus on addressing the threats posed by Nuclear Weapons and preventing terrorists from accessing Weapons of Mass Destruction, WMD, as it assumes the rotational Chairmanship of the AU Peace and Security Council, AU-PSC, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, Bankole Adeoye, made this known in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

U. S. experts have found a solid reason for legalising medical marijuana, saying it can help Americans who are struggling with opioid addiction and possibly reduce opioid-related mortality.

According to a study in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, prescriptions filled for opioids decrease by 2.11 million daily doses per year from an average of 23.08 million daily doses per year when a state adopted a medical cannabis law.

“This means that allowing the use of cannabis for medical purposes may encourage lower prescription opioid use and reduce the harm in the opioid crisis,’’ the study said.

It noted that the finding was “particularly strong” in states that permit dispensaries.

The study analysed daily doses of opioids from 2010 to 2015 under Medicare Part D, the optional prescription drug benefit plan that covers over 42 million Americans.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday lifted a suspension it placed on Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency.

The Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has damned the consequences in revealing to the public what he and his colleagues receive monthly as a running cost.

Mr Sani, in an interview with TheNEWS magazine, said each Senator receives N13.5 million monthly in addition to the over N700, 000 monthly consolidated salary and allowances.



“I think what we can say is that the running cost of a senator is N13.5 million every month,” the Senator said in response to the question on alleged bogus salaries and allowances of Nigerian lawmakers.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has restrained the House of Representatives from conducting the planned public hearing on the Hijab wearing controversy between the Nigerian Law School and Firdaus Amasa.

Justice Anwuli Chikere gave the order on Wednesday in her ruling on an application filed by a coalition of legal practitioners, seeking to stop the public hearing.


The judge ordered that the public hearing be put on hold, pending the determination of the substantive suit.

A little of historical digression will help us know that corruption is a global problem and started long time before the Babylons. Philosophers, thinkers and prophets warned people that corruption is a menace that kills people and destruct their societies. Socrates and his student Plato tried to create an utopia of corruption free society with philosopher-king as a ruler. Many European thinkers tried to teach people some moral codes that would train them to live without falling into the trap of materialistic hysteria that leads to corruption. Ethics, in the case of Cynicism, Epicureanism and the extreme version of Stoicism, teach an adherent to have self-control as he passes through the magnetic forces of demands.

Cynics think we should reject all types of government for us to reject corruption! If government is power then power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely! But this is logical fallacy from the cynical distorted assumptions.
