Wrong! The gap between the various legislation for working in these fields in these countries are far and wide! Caregivers in the UK for example are mostly employed by the NHS-related companies, if not directly with the NHS. They’re mostly paid from allocation grants from the government, which put a kind of limit on the earnings… most wages are in line with most regular jobs, even lower up North! In Canada, each fields are often dominated by certain countries folks, which means simply getting up and decide you wanna go work in that field can be a mirage. But then again, the wages are not all that imo! Many in these jobs end up being workaholic with no social life and despair sets in in no time… they too still hv to rely heavily on credits lifestyle to keep up.

There's lots of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS doing these jobs and since some people think SELF EMPLOYMENT is the only way to prosperity, well most of them are self employed....because they don't have work permits. Again, I know MANY Nigerian adult men with families who've NEVER done anything else but drive taxis or work as car mechanics. They live in neighborhoods that are as good as any GRA or even Lekki in Nigeria. These are people I've known all my adult life, I saw them get married, I baby sat their children, many of those children are now doctors, pharmacists, plumber, coaches, accountants.

The best known TAILOR here is a Ghanian. He started his business in his house, now he has a regular shop. As far as I know, that's all he does for a living and he lives OK as far as I can tell.

Some Nigerians have done so well as ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS with these "low jobs" that they even established businesses and have become employers. Yes, that is true. There's one fellow that built a huge business and only got his Green Card maybe 3 years ago, after over 25 years in the USA. I have no reason to lie. Any Nigerian who has lived in the USA can tell you this. There's a town near me here where a Liberian became the Town Manager, the town is Zebulon, North Carolina, he started as a maintenance man. Town manager in the USA is equivalent to Head of Service for a town. Somehow after some years it became public knowledge that he was an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT.

Same thing happened with a full Professor of Mathematics at a government owned University here. Students and in fact the whole academic community supported him and he got to stay. This was over 20 years ago but we're talking about "low jobs" so that's just as an aside.

Right now in the USA is a good time for skilled or semi-skilled trades. I'm sure it's the same in any other Anglo-Western country.

I’ve lived in both countries and I can tell you that the pay package for any of these jobs is not as much as they’re being overhyped on the internet! And trust me you can’t do any of these jobs as a side hustle cos there’s either not enough demand, like in the case of a phone repairer (cos gadgets don’t get damaged as much for obodo oyinbo as such), or too physically and mentally demanding like in the case of a caregiver! When you’re able to do any of the jobs you simply just do it as a regular job, nothing over-earning as they make them seem!

Not for the standard of living in those countries… the pays are just enough to get by if you’re doing full time, and pointless as a side job if you’re on a another full time job!

The OP used Naija mentality to make these suggestions! All these are not lucra-nothing in the UK, you can get jobs doing any of these once in a while, not enough to fill in the gaps or top up one’s earnings!
