Islam for Muslims / Re: Understanding Islamic (hijrah) Calendar by Ologuntere(m): 5:13pm On Jul 05
Lukgaf:
Tomorrow, Saturday, or next Sunday marks the end of 1445 Hijrah. This implies Monday is the first of Muharram - the first day of the new Islamic calendar year - 1446AH. Although there's no special or grand celebration, as a Muslim, it's important to acknowledge the significance of the Islamic calendar and its months, which symbolize and count special events in Islam.

Here's a summary of the Islamic (Hijrah) calendar:

- The Islamic calendar is based on a lunar year consisting of 12 full lunar cycles, totaling 354 days.
- Each new year falls 10 or 11 days earlier according to the 364-day solar calendar.
- The 12 months of the Islamic year are:
1. Muharram
2. Safar
3. Rabi' al-Awwal (Rabi' 1)
4. Rabi' al-Thani (Rabi' 2)
5. Jumada al-Ula (Jumada I)
6. Jumada al-Akhirah (Jumada II)
7. Rajab
8. Sha'ban
9. Ramadan
10. Shawwal
11. Dhu al-Qa'dah
12. Dhi al-Hijjah

- The first day of Year One of the Islamic calendar was set as the first day of the Hijrah, the Prophet's migration from Makkah to Madinah on July 26, 622 C.E.
- The Western convention for designating Islamic dates uses the abbreviation AH, standing for Anno Hegirae or 'Year of the Hijrah'.

Conversion:

To roughly convert an Islamic calendar year (AH) to a Gregorian equivalent (A.D./C.E.) or vice versa, use the following equations from this website:

- AD = 622 + (32/33 x AH)
- AH = 33/32 x (AD - 622)

May Almighty Allah count us to witness more years in our life

Twenty Five years of unbroken democracy, how has Nigerians fared?

I remember all the events that preceded May 29, 1999. There was excitement everywhere that at last the military was exiting the political stage in the annals of our history but today a lot of people will tell you that things are not in any way better, especially in these last few years!

The question is, Where were you and how old were you in 1999?

Is this the democracy you hoped for?

Are we there yet?
Hmmm 🤔 I could remembered vividly then, when I was singing, dancing, even though then I was still in my primary level, I still believe in my country will be great and I will be alive to witness it and my family.

Islam for Muslims / Re: The Correct Islamic Way To Follow Is Sectless by Ologuntere(m): 5:59pm On Nov 04, 2016
FriendChoice:
Islam Is A Sectless Religion

Islam as a religion is one and have no division. Yet some Muslim have sect but not Islam.

In Islam, there is nothing like Shia and Sunni

The Qura’n says in Surah Al-Imran, Ch. No. 3, V. No. 103 ‘Hold together to the rope of Allah, and be not divided’

– The verse above says Islam have no division.

Qur’an say clearly in Surah Anaam, Ch. No. 6, V. No. 159 that… Who ever makes sects… divisions in Religion of Islam, he has nothing to do with Allah (SWT).

If you make sect and teaches innovations in the Islamic religion, then you have nothing to do with Allah.

A true Muslim in this time is a Muslim who obeys Allah through the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Any other ideology apart from this is a wrong path.

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result. Quran

The verse said it all, if you should have any sect then that sect should be the Islamic religion itself obeying Allah and his messenger and those in authority.

If you have disagreement, then keep your altercations aside and look for what Allah and His messenger teach.

If you believe in Allah and you believe you will die as well as resurrected hereafter, then this is the way you should practice Islam and it's the best way that will yield A+ result for you which is paradise.

Education / Re: Extension Of JAMB Result Validity: What Are The Possible Implications? by Ologuntere(m): 8:44pm On Oct 17, 2016
Dapromzy333:
The Senate last Thursday in Abuja directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to extend the validity of its results to a period of three years.

The question is, if this is implemented what are the possible implications?

One of the obvious implications is that candidates who scored up to the required UTME cut-off mark but were unable to secure admission in that academic year will still be able to use the result in the upcoming year thereby saving such candidates the stress of writing UTME again.

It will also reduce the financial burden on parents/guardians as the senate president, Bukola Saraki rightly pointed out.

However, the most critical is this; it will likely reduce the number of candidates applying for JAMB every year but at the same time increase the number of candidates seeking admission through UTME each year. This is not good considering that our tertiary institutions lack the capacity to accommodate the increasing number of admission seekers.

let's examine this. If the validity of UTME result gets extended, candidates who have obtained the required UTME cut-off mark for their course will need not apply for UTME in the upcoming year; however they will still join the teeming fresh secondary school leavers to jostle for admission in the following year. That will surely increase the number of admission seekers.

Now that seems to be nothing different from what it is at the moment; since some candidates who fail to gain admission last year, also sat for this year's UTME along side fresh secondary school leavers and are currently jostling for admission.

What you've failed to consider is that there are candidates who scored well above 200 in last year’s UTME, who were not admitted. Most of them participated in this year’s UTME but couldn’t score up to 180. This has automatically disqualified them for admission this year.

Now what if the validity of UTME result was implemented last year? That means they are still qualified to apply for admission this year there by increasing the number of admission seekers.

Also if the UTME result validity gets extended, many candidates with good UTME scores that fail to secure admission in a particular year will find it hard to consider programmes like diploma, IJMB, Pre-degree etc. since all they have to do is to wait another year and then re-apply for admission with their previous UTME result. The reason many opt for these other programmes in the first place is due to the stress of preparing and sitting for UTME over again.

So, if you ask me, I think admission quota for tertiary institutions should be increased first before extending the validity of UTME result or else the whole process will be self-defeating at the end of the day.

What's your own take on this and what are the other possible implications you can think of? Share with us.
Phones / Re: Check Out Whatsapp New Update With Cool Features by Ologuntere(m): 7:14am On Sep 20, 2016
rummeh:
WhatsApp Messenger is the most popular messaging platform on all mobile operating systems and if you have a smart phone, then chances are that you will use WhatsApp instead of relying on your actual service provider. Another beta update of version 2.16.270 is here to download in the APK format and the core reason for these beta updates is to provide you with the best experience possible. The developers, this time, did state a list of changes in the changelog, and they have been detailed below.

Voice Mail:
If your WhatsApp call is rejected or unanswered, one will now have the option to leave a voice message.
The new feature is basically the voice message feature but only appears when you make a call.
If a contact doesn't pick up or decline a call, all you have to do is hold down on the voice message button, and when you are ready to send the message, just let go the button. You message is sent and it appears in the active WhatsApp conversation with a note saying there's been a missed call.
The report adds that if you slide left when recording you abandon the voice message - but you can't listen back to your recording before deciding to send it.
Bold emojis: The messaging app has added new features like giving people the ability to send bold, italic and strike-through text in messages, a secret font and Olympic-themed emoji - all within the last few weeks..

1.When sharing or forwarding messages, you can now send to multiple chats at once
2.Chats you frequently contact now appear when forwarding or sharing messages
3.While recording videos, slide your finger up or down to zoom in and out
4.A new front-facing flash helps you capture selfies in the dark

Unfortunately, there still isn’t a video-calling feature present, but it looks like it could come by the end of this year.

Good day all.

I need your advice on the type of ceiling board or sheet to use. I am currently on a building project(a small bungalow).

I know there are basically two types of ceiling sheet. The first one is like plastic, usually long and has different colours(I don't know the name) and the other is the conventional ceiling board which is like wood.

I need to know which one is more durable and better.

Thanks
I. Thinks you have to cut. Your. Cloth according to your size
