Agriculture / Cocoa Plantation A To Z: The Game Changer And Money Spinner By Organicfoods by organicfoods(m): 9:23am On Mar 14, 2017
I will be sharing with you my biggest farm exploit in Cocoa cultivation...It promises to be a big eye opener. watch out for this thread.

Cocoa
Cocoa is a cash crop and has played an important, vibrant role in rural economies worldwide. It is a crop that enjoys consistent global demand. It provides families with income and raising the standard of living in thousands of communities where it is grown and harvested. Cocoa is the second largest foreign exchange earner after crude oil. The global market for cocoa is very huge, growing at an average of 3% per annum. Nigeria’s cocoa export has equally grown over the years by an average of 40% annually and a cumulative of 280%. Nigeria is the world’s 4th largest producer and exporter of cocoa. Paradoxically, over 90% of the cocoa produced is exported. The target markets for cocoa are food and beverage companies, chocolate companies, soap making, companies both local and international. The selling price of cocoa beans as at today varies between 2195USD- 3130USD per ton and with the newly improved variety (hybrid) with the following characteristics:

a. Produces at least 2 tonnes per hectare, there are two harvesting season in a year heavy and light, you can harvest for 30 to 50 years.
b. Start producing in 2years
Shade Crop Plantain is a shade crop for cocoa. It protect cocoa from harsh weather condition as it develop to full maturity. If you are cultivating or planning to cultivate plantain without planting cocoa, then you are wasting a lot of resources, because investment/expenses on the establishment will be realized from the shade crop (plantain) as the consumption and exportation has risen tremendously in Nigeria in recent years and cocoa will later be an additional gain.

One more question as regards this, it should be used during land preparation right?
Use when plants has started sprouting. . Use it like liquid fertilizer... More of it to water the plant

Hi organicfoods, forgive me for calling you out.

Got one or two questions that I hope you can help out with.

i) what's the function of the pipe in the image shown?

ii) Can the fish pond waste be used in the cultivation of watermelon?
The pipe is filled with stones to create a column for aeration and water in take. Waste water from ponds contain excellent nutrients for plants.

You have really done well with your experimental project.
I hope that you will expand based on the lessons learned while tweaking and fine tuning as you go along.
You may want to get ahead of the ubiquitous copycats by establishing yourself as the go-to person/business for organic poultry etc and if possible set up standards for grading and certifying products as organic.
All the best in the new year.
Thanks a lot for using the crystal balls... My dreams for this project revolves round these stuffs you just mentioned. The prospect is huge.

This is indeed a great product.
What are the difference between this farmers fertilizer and maxiforce(which i am presently used to)?
And do u have outlet or agent in Plateau state?
Finally, can this product completely substitute inorganic NPK in vegetable priduction?
Well I don't use Maxiforce so I have no information to compare them. We are working on an outlet soon, somewhere in Abuja. Yes this product can completely substitute inorganic NPK. You need to do proper nutrient budgeting for your plants (Soil amendment with chicken poo and other manures) I hope I have been able answer some of your questions.

Agriculture / Re: "Vertical Sack Farming" My Pains, My Joy! My Experience So Far By: Organicfoods by organicfoods(m): 10:16am On Dec 02, 2016
@Agrozone, your cucumber is not getting enough nutrients...Possible environmental stress like water and too much heat.. when plants are not healthy, they quickly find pests as companion. Solution: Get Native Black Soap NBS, mix with water and spray under leaves early in the morning and late in the evening. Then get some flat yellow plastic board and coat them with Vaseline, any oily thing that could stick and place round the farm to trap and kill the pest...You need to act fast. Good luck!
