What is 50k naira in a month for a serious blog? My first successful blog made $750 when I monetized it after 6 months. The 7th month generated more than $1000. But do not take my word for it. Blogging is work, serious work. I own 4 blogs now even though I'm yet to monetize two because they do not yet have enough content.

Blog comments are not as important as blog ranking. Your target should be to get your blog in front of as many people as possible. When you have say, 20k-30k daily views, there is no way you won't earn $1000 monthly for a well monetized blog if you did your homework well. What homework are we talking about?

1) Be sure that your niche is monetizable
2) Niche down, don't go too broad or competitive too early
3) Be sure that you do not spam your links. I see some of you post your blog links on Nairaland. That's disaster waiting to happen. Make all your traffic organic. It helps you to split test effectively and understand what's working without getting confused with unnatural traffic.
4) Grow your traffic organically through QUALITY content.
5) Understand that people come online to get useful actionable content. Produce that and you'll see quality monetizable traffic.
6) Be patient if you've done all things well. A good blog would give you full time income in 3 years if you're taking things easy. That's $15,000/month

Disclaimer:

My example is atypical. Blogging won't make you rich overnight. I worked day and night with many sleepless nights to accomplish that. It may take you 4 years if you didn't work as hard, but if you have quality content on your blog, you'll get there. Do not believe anyone that tells you you'll make money in even one year. Money is a function of work and the quality of work you put into your blog.

Webmasters / Re: Is Creating A Website Still Advisable In This Era? by Oriental4: 2:53pm On Apr 12, 2021
What you just wrote there is not tenable in terms of profitability of websites or blogs. Talk about competition? It is there, but if you mean that you cannot make money through a website if you started today because of competition, that's where you are wrong. I started my last blog about 6 months ago. Has it started making money? No, but I'm sure it'll soon start because I've started monetization last week. The reason is that I have not put in as much work as I did with my first successful blog which by the way I started in 2018. That particular blog has earned me thousands of USD and counting.

What you need to understand is that blogging is like any other thing people do to earn money, even employment. Every employer knows that there are two types of worker: those that do the minimum they can go away with, hoping that the manager doesn't notice since they'll still get paid at the end of the month and those that do the full job for which they were employed. The same is applicable in blogging. There are so many people that start blogging because they want quick money, Not that they are willing to put in the effort and sleepless nights necessary to make their blogs a success.

Thank God for crawlers that are getting smarter, every thin and useless site from lazy bloggers are discarded by major search engines. But those who understand that blogging is all about giving people useful information are actually making money. Even if they started their blogs last month. Blogging demands expertise, skills and commitment to become successful. My first successful blog started earning in 6 months of intense work. In exactly 5 months I had it monetized, By the sixth month, it earned $750. The seventh month, it generated $1250 and so on.

Using high traffic sites such as Nairaland may give you views, but you're basically a tenant without control. But if you build your own site and put your content in it, your DA would appreciate over time and your income with it. There are few online businesses that would give you full time income with reduced stress over time than having your own website. But do not bother wasting time at it if you're not willing to learn until you become an authority in your field, so that even the search engines cannot help noticing you.

Someone said in a comment above that the era of free traffic is gone and that you need lots of money to create a successful blog. That is a lie. What you need is skill and a lot of work, not a ;lot of money. There's still massively untapped free traffic and profit out there. Just that many people are too lazy to work or too impatient to allow their labour yield fruit. Talking about fruit, one mistake people make is not understanding their capabilities and capacity in choosing a niche or keyword. When you start by competing with the big names, you end up losing out.

Sir, using blogger or even does not mean you cannot use a custom domain. You dont need to use a sub domain.

And sorry to say, if you don't know that, then you shouldn't be offering advice. You should be learning.

And presuming you're as smart as you think you are. Why would you go for Blogger that is owned and controlled by Google that could ban or shut you down the way they did to Linda Ikeji instead of an open source that gives you liberty to run your business the way you want? You're obviously going in circles because your only attraction to Blogger is that it is free. Anyway, my advice isn't for your type that have arrived but for people that wish to learn. For any aspiring blogger, I strongly suggest that you use WordPress. You'd accomplish more with it. We use Google for traffic. That's what they're good at.

Your reasoning is based on a common logical fallacy. Correlation does not equal causation.

Because blogger is severely limited in terms of design options, most serious publications which have the resources to rank for popular keywords won't use it. It's that simple, and has nothing to do with search engines.

BTW Neil Patel lists blogger as one of his top 5 blogging platforms. Do you know better than Neil Patel?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/neilpatel.com/blog/best-blogging-platforms/amp/

Being a top blogging platform does not translate to being a top-ranking platform. Blogger could work if you started 10 years ago, not in 2021. One of Google's ranking factors is domain authority. How would your DA rank if it is a sub-domain to ? That means you've lost a lot because you're too stingy to buy a premium dot com domain that costs $10 and hosting that costs you less than $30 for the first year. No serious businessman goes for free things. I won't take any sub-domain serious, even Google doesn't.

I read the first page to see what advice you already have. I should say that most of them may be helpful. Let me tell you this as a blogger. By the way, my latest blog is just 2 months old and has earned nothing. Let me just say that blogging is not magic, but it is one of the easiest ways of making money online if you know what you are doing. Many bloggers do not make money simply because they give up too easily. Blogging is all about giving people information they need and not as someone suggested, for writing your ideas. You won't make any money if all you do is write your ideas. Do that on Facebook, that's the platform for writing whatever comes into your mind.

My first successful blog started earning after 6 months. The first month of earning was $750. The second month of earning was about $1,200. Let me show you how it works since someone said that serious bloggers won't give you advice, a concept which is wrong. There is room for everyone to succeed as a blogger. I have 4 blogs presently in different niches.

First, blogging costs money but not much money. If you have money for hosting and data, there is no reason why you won't be successful as a blogger.
2. If you put in effort in creating your content, there is no reason why you would not be successful. I advise that you go for an evergreen niche so that your content would continue to be relevant. I made this mistake in my first blog by making it a news site. Down the line I realized that I could not be writing 4-5 articles daily. That could be tiring, so I started reviewing scams. The problem with scams is that they rain today and are gone tomorrow so the traffic peters out. So choose an evergreen.

3. Do not think that you'll start making money overnight. Give your blog at least one year to start making serious money. If you do it right, you'll have full time income in 2 years. That's more than $15,000 monthly income.

4. Your content should be helpful to users. Search similar content in your niche on Google and produce something better. That's how it works.

5, Write for people. Give them what would help them and forget all those telling you about SEO and all other bullshit meant to take money from you. Backlinks happen naturally if you have a good blog with good content.

6. Do not waste time on design. When your blog is successful and earning money, you can go for a premium theme.
7, Forget about traffic, just produce many good content. My first successful blog has more than 800 posts.
8. Lay emphasis on posts instead of pages in Wordpress. Group your theme into categories to keep the blog neat.
9. I can't remember everything here, but spend time only on things that make you money. What are those things? Writing content. Make your minimum content 1000 words. I have a 15,000 words guide on my 2018 blog.
10. Finally, do not chase "successful blogger" There is no magic outside work and in blogging, work equals writing content, content and more useful content. When these content start bringing traffic, you start cashing in. And talking about traffic, create social media accounts for your blog. Facebook and Twitter are enough. Small traffic would be coming from there pending when Google starts noticing you.

WARNING!!!

NEVER, I repeat, NEVER spam your site links. Google would manually ban you and that would be the end of your blog.

On a final note, this is all you need. And no, I do not mentor people. All the mentoring you need is already in this comment.
Good luck.

Addendum

Let me add one more thing based on come comments I read here. Some people would advise you to choose a niche based on your passion. Well, that may be good, but what if you do not have something you are passionate about? Or what you have passion for has no real demand in terms of monetization? My advise is this. Choose any niche you are interested in learning about. Be aware that what matters is being able to monetize down the line. Also, every other thing such as keyword research, this ebook and that ebook are all craps. The secret is no secret - create helpful content that people love.
