The president, the vice, national leader, national chairman have never been PDP....!
This is politics, no way we wont have people from PDP in APC or vice versa

This kind of selective reasoning is not help us as Nigerians. We all know that if we are to pick and choose to justify our arguments, it can be said that the two most senior APC lawmakers are a product of PDP. The point is that it has nothing to do with the label of a party but the individuals. We most be honest to realise that we keep electing people from our societies not foreigners. Therefore , their behaviour is a reflection of a huge number of us in the society. You can’t have the good minority elected in leadership in Nigeria because evil always finds away to prevail.

I was there live this afternoon at Cerdarcrest hospital Gwarimpa. My friend and I wanted to see the hospital receptionist but we were denied entry by the rogue policemen telling us to go back saying something like "oga pikin dey inside. No pass tha line no pass am". I was reluctant and wanted to go through but I was blocked again and this time they cocked rifle threatening to shoot me if I trespass. I wonder what kind of country is this. Denying me of my own right to access our useless healthcare even after being taxed monthly.

If he was flown abroad, I doubt if any police would be cocking gun let say in a London hospital.

Cedarcrest hospital is one of the best and biggest private hospital I've seen in nigeria. Their theatre is like every nigerian surgeon's dream workplace. I wonder why they didn't take him to abuja general hospital or any other government hospital.

Anyways, Get well soon Mr. Yusuf and celebrate 2018 with us in good health...

Sir, they may have the infrastructure but I am not sure they have the staff to handle sensitive operations. I had a bad experience with this hospital a couple of years back.

I really hope the boy survives because I have had a bad encounter with that same hospital. In the year 2015, I had an NYSC corp member serve me involved in an accident which resulted in a fractured spinal cord. Cedarcrest hospital collected about 3 million Naira to operate on the boy but ended up playing around with the situation and my corp member passed away. From my experience, the hospital is about money and do not have skilled staff to provide quality treatment. I wish the boy the best.

There is a clear difference between a philosopher and an innovative person. Perhaps you can state your purpose clamor rather than you and other so-called devoted Izons choosing to abusive about your drive. While considering that your purpose, I sympathize with you for been marginalized but hope that you are talking from a tax-payers view not one who thinks he has the right to resources on the ground.

You have said nothing in this write up and answering Preye wont even make me take my foot slightly of the pedal , as I and other well meaning Izon otu continue to drive towards an Ijaw nation devoid of lies and marginalization by u and your likes
Read carefully

All this is written by non ijaws or will u still deny the most accepted bini historian

cited E. Alademomi Kenyo, who in his book, titled ‘The Origin and Title of Yoruba Rulers’ (N.D) Page 3, stated: ‘Up till time, the Oba (in Benin) and his people were pure Yoruba and did not understand the language of the aborigines, who usually salute themselves and the new people (the Bini) Adoo, Dolo.’ It is an indisputable fact that it is only the Ijaws that greet Adoo and Dolo in Nigeria.
“here is a bini mans Dr J .U. Egharevba’s book titled, “The Short History of Benin’ (1968) to back our claims, we equally referred to Prof. Alan Ryder, a British national and former professor of history at University of Ibadan in his book, ‘Benin and the Europeans 1485-1897,’ Page 27, which states inter alia, ‘Whichever of the slave rivers the Portuguese frequented, the people they first met and traded with, would have belonged to Ijo (Ijaw) tribe, which at that time dominated the coastal belt of the swamp forest, extending inland to a depth of 30-40miles in the region.

IT IS CLEAR THAT UGHOTON WAS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN IJAW AND BINI:
"In the meantime he (Consul James Phillips) sent a message forward to the Oba, Benin's king, that his present mission was to discuss trade and peace and demanding admission to the territory in defiance of Benin law explicitly forbidding his entry. Unfortunately for Phillips, some Itsekiri trading chiefs sent a message to the Benin king that 'the white man is bringing war'.
On receiving the news the Benin king quickly summoned the city's high-ranking nobles for an emergency meeting, and during the discussions the Iyase, the commander in chief of the Benin Army argued that the British were planning a surprise attack and must be defeated. The Benin king however argued that the British should be allowed to enter the city so that it can be ascertained whether or not the visit was a friendly one. The Iyase ignored the king's views, and ordered the formation of a strike force that was commanded by the Ologbosere, a senior army commander, which was sent to Ughoton to destroy the invaders.
On 4 January 1897, the Benin strike force composed mainly of border guards and servants of some chiefs caught Phillips' column totally unprepared at Ugbine village near Ughoton. Since Phillips was not expecting any opposition and was unaware that his operation was being perceived with alarm in Benin, the contingent's only weapons, consisting of the officers' pistols, were locked up in the head packs of the African porters.[7] Only two British officers survived the annihilation of Phillips' expedition,[8] which became known as the 'Benin Massacre'."
NB: Please note very carefully that the Iyase (the Commander In Chief of the Bini Army) did not send his soldiers to Gelegelegbene or any other Ijaw Community but to Ughoton which is precisely a Bini Community and Ughoton till this day is the boundary between Ijaw and Bini which tells you that they know their boundary.

PEOPLE AND DEMOGRAPHY
The main ethnic groups in Edo State are: Edos, Afemais, Esans, Owans and Akoko Edos. Virtually all the groups traced their origin to Benin City hence the dialects of the groups vary with their distance from Benin City. The Bini speaking people who occupy seven out of the 18 Local Government Areas of the state constitute 57.54% while others Esan (17.14%) Afemai compirising of Etsako (12.19%), Owan (7.43%), and Akoko Edo (5.70%). However, the Igbira speaking communities exist in Akoko Edo as well as Urhobos, Ijaws, Itsekiris communities in Ovia North East and South West Local Government Areas especially in the borderlands. Also, Ika speaking communities exist in Igbanke in Orhionmwon LGA.

AdaFonju, Something amazing about your write-ups since you registered on Nairaland on the 5th of December 2017 is that they are both about Edo state. Hence, your reason for joining nairaland is to clamor for land and discredit Benin kingdom.

Before now, Ijaws have been quiet settlers or land owners in Edo state until the governor and the Oba came out to propose a seaport at Gelegele. One thing i would say is that even if history is re-written, it is certain that a significant amount of true records of events would forever be lost because of the subjectivity of writers. For example, if you conduct an interview to inquire about your family from your oldest living relative, the best you will get is the person's perception of reality. Family histories are lost talkless of community and regional archives. Sadly, Nigerians don't document and we haven't still learned the disadvantages of not having a scribe present at historical events. It is not just the Ijaw matter. There has also been the argument that Bini people come from Yoruba land but the subjectivity behind such statements is should be taken with caution as a true representation of reality. The only certain reality is that we would all live this earth and should be concerned about living something tangible for generations to come irrespective of their ethnic group or beliefs.

I wish you the best with your clamor to re-write the past, but I employ you to consider the present and future instead.

Preye Osama Egbata

Ijaw communities in the Okomu Kingdom, Ovia South Local Government Area of Edo State, have alleged that they are victims of marginalization by their Bini neighbors and the Edo State government.
BY SAHARA REPORTERS, NYDEC 09, 2017

Ijaw communities in the Okomu Kingdom, Ovia South Local Government Area of Edo State, have alleged that they are victims of marginalization by their Bini neighbors and the Edo State government.

They also claimed that they are the aborigines of the area, not settlers, which the Bini want to appropriate. Their claims were made in a statement issued from the palace of the traditional ruler, the Kalasuo of Okomu Kingdom, by the Traditional Council.

According to the statement, Okomu Kingdom is made up of many communities, including: Okomu, Osikoloba, Oyibogbene, Markilolo Gbene, Wuluku Gbene, Ejuko Gbene, Iwala Gbene, Zughu Gbene, Agbede Gbene, Oweike Gbene, Izon Gbene, Beri 1, Beri 2, Usaku-Uba Gbene and Dinou Bou Gbene, Others are Ogiri Fulaba Gbene, Tala Gbene, IK Gbene, Ebi Gbene, Itoko Gbene, Orubai Ukumu, Opu-Uba Gbene, Iroko Gbene and Reuben Gbene.

The statement maintained that the people of Okomu Kingdom were among the aborigines of Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.

"The Ijaw being the fourth largest tribe in Nigeria are balkanized into the following six states; Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, and Ondo. In all the aforementioned states, the full rights and privileges of the Ijaw as citizens are guaranteed except in Edo State. One wonders, why the status of the Ijaws of Okomu, Egbema Olodiama, Furupagha, and Gbanraun clans in Edo state is different," the statement said.

It added that the people of Okomu Kingdom have lived on the coastline stretching from Akwa Ibom State to the Mahin River in Ondo State for centuries. It also stated that Ijawland contributes about 60% of Nigeria’s foreign earnings, making the area the economic pillar on which Nigeria rests.

"In the same manner in Okomu Kingdom and their kith and kin of Olodiama, Egbema Furupagha and Gbanraun Clans are the economic livewires of Edo State, due to their endowment with natural and mineral resources," the Okomu Traditional Council said.

Ijaws In Edo State Warn Oba Of Benin Over Attempt To Claim Okomu

It claimed that historians of Portuguese and British origins are unanimous on the fact that the Ijaw, including the Okomu Kingdom, are aborigines of the Niger Delta.

"Dr. Talbort, one of the earliest historians that wrote about most ethnic groups in Southern Nigeria, was very explicit about the status of the Ijaw of the Niger Coast. The witness of Dr. Talbort to the effect that the Ijaws are the earliest people in the land and that they occupy virtually the whole coast is very important. This is because he was the Acting Resident Officer of the defunct Bini Division in 1920,” said the Traditional Council.

The Council also stated that the Portuguese, who came to Nigeria, first met the Ijaw of Ogulagha Kingdom (whom they referred to as Gulani) in the Fekedosi (Forcados) River via the Oporoza Toru (Escravos) of Gbaramatu Kingdom down to the Ijaw of Okomu, Olodiama and Egbema Kingdoms before making contact with the Bini in the hinterland.

"It is important to note that the Bini people are not of aboriginal stock in their present settlement and also do not belong to the coastal belt of the Niger Delta that is occupied by the Ijaws, since the Bini of Edo State neither know how to paddle nor are they aquatic by nature," claimed the Traditional Council.

Quoting author/historian, E.A. Kenyo, the Council said the Bini are of Yoruba stock."In his book, 'The Origin and Title of Yoruba Rulers' page 3, he described and referred to the Bini people as 'the new people,” the council further stated. It also quoted Allan Rider's “Bini and the Europeans” 1485 – 1897 published 1967 as saying: “Whichever of the 'slave River' the Portuguese frequented, the people they first met would have belonged to the Ijohs (Ijaws), which dominated the coastal belt swamp forest, extending hinterland to a depth of 30 to 40 miles in this region.”

Rider also wrote that the Bini Edo lived outside the swamp forest area. Also quoted was Professor Bradbury's in his The Benin Kingdom and Edo Speaking People, which states:“The rich poll of incontrovertible scholarly evidence and documentation in support of the aboriginal status of the Ijaws of Okomu, Olodiama, Egbema, Furupagha and Gbanraun Clans of the Midwestern Region, which later metamorphosed to Bendel State that later gave birth to Edo and Delta states, was sealed by the most outstanding Bini historian, Dr. Jacob Uwagboe Egharevba."

Egharevba, the first curator of the Benin Museum, stated that the Bini met the Ijaw in the geographical area called Edo State.

"The incontrovertible truth is that the Ijaw, including the Okomu Kingdom and the entire Ijaw Kingdoms in Edo State, are not Edoid people and so cannot be part of Bini Kingdom."

The Okomu Kingdom with its kith and kin of Egbema, Olodiama, Furupagha and Gbanraun Clans of Edo State has never been conquered by anybody through war or treaty. "

"Our refutation of the false claims and expansion tendencies of the Oba of Bini and the Bini Kingdom should not be seen as joining issues over what ordinarily could have been termed frivolities of twisted minds or dignifying a roguish and bullish attempt to falsify, subjugate and culturally appropriate ownership of our land since the historical truth of our aboriginal status is a well documented and settled issue," said the Traditional Council.

That is not true. I have been to mosque several times. Plus even though I was the only Christian in my last place of work in Abuja, I was always invited to pray with them even though they knew I could not pray. Finally, the Pope Francis was invited to pray inside a mosque a while back(you can Google that). I hope this helps to improve your line of thought.

AutoJoshNG:
Winter tyres? In Nigeria??

I am sure you are currently battling with these questions at the moment.

Sure, some of us drive with winter tyres in Nigeria.. knowingly or unknowingly. The problem is, these winter tyres damage our roads as they become soft and sticky in hot weather thereby peeling the road surface quicker. Some of them even have metal studs/spikes which cause further damage to our roads. You would even hear the noise of the studs grinding on the road or the tyres sticking to the ground when the cars are driving close to you.

How many of us ever did a thorough inspection of the tyres that came with our cars from USA, Canada and Europe? Go check your car tyres right away.. ensure it does not have the M+S symbol which stands for MUD & SNOW and/or the three-peaked mountain with snowflake symbol as seen in the attached picture.

Several accidented cars are shipped to Nigeria and a reasonable chunk of those accidents are caused by snow... which means those cars may have been running on winter tyres.

By law, you are not meant to use these tyres during summer because they are bad for hot and dry pavement. Only summer tyres can give you the safety and performance you need in warm weather.

With their special compounds and tread patterns, winter tyres are designed to stay soft and flexible in cold conditions, providing traction and grip in low temperatures on wet and icy surfaces. But with the hot weather in Nigeria, they lose this advantage, grip declines and the tread starts to wear faster as the tyres become soft and sticks to the hot roads.

https://autojosh.com/how-nigerian-drivers-damage-nigerian-roads-with-winter-tyres/

The article say M+S means mud and snow. Majority of our roads are mud during the raining season now.

Politics / Re: 11 Proofs That Show Recession Is Almost Over – FG by OsamaB: 4:38pm On Feb 15, 2017
Handsome777:
The federal government has given 11 reasons why it believes that the economy is on its way out of recession that has rocked the nation for almost a year.

The government described the reasons as proofs in a report contained in Issue 23 of Aso Villa’s Newsletter titled: ‘Government at Work’

The reasons stated in the report are summarized as follows:

1. Over-Subscription of FG’s Eurobond.
According to the report, government targeted $1 billion but got $7.8 billion in one week, which has confirmed the confidence level of the international investment community in Nigeria’s economic reform agenda.

2. Growth in non-oil sector of the economy.

The report states that agriculture grew by 4.54%, crop production is at nearly 5% (its highest since the first quarter of 2014) and the solid mineral sector averaged about 7% during the third quarter of 2016.

3. The Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The programme substantially raised local rice production in 2016 (yields improved from two tonnes per hectare to as much as seven tonnes per hectare, in some states) and produced a model agricultural collaboration between Lagos and Kebbi states.

4. The Fertilizer Intervention Project.

According to the report, the project involves a partnership between the federal government and the government of Morocco, for the supply of phosphate. It is on course to significantly raise local production, and bring the retail price of fertilizer down by about 30 percent.

5. Take-off of the newly established Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN).
With an initial funding of US$1.3bn (provided by the World Bank, German Development Bank, the African Development Bank and Agence Française de Development), medium and long-term loans to will be available for Micro, Small, Medium-scale Enterprises (MSME) for job creation.

6. A new Social Housing Programme.
The programme is kicking off in 2017. The ‘Family Homes Fund’ will take off with a 100 billion naira provision in the 2017 Budget. (The rest of the funding will come from the private sector).

7. More than N800 billion released for capital expenditure in the 2016 budget.
The report claimed that this is the largest ever capital spending within a single budget year in the history of Nigeria. These monies have enabled the resumption of work on several stalled projects – road, rail and power projects – across the country.

8. Implementation of the Social Investment and Empowerment Programme (SIP).
All the four components of the SIP, the report noted, have now taken off. It described the SIP as the largest and most ambitious social safety net programme in the history of Nigeria, with more than 1 million beneficiaries so far: – 200,000 N-Power beneficiaries, 23,400 Government Enterprise and Empowerment (GEEP) Scheme beneficiaries, 1,000,000 Homegrown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP) beneficiaries, and ongoing Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) payments across nine pilot states.
It said:

9. Strategic Engagements with OPEC and in the Niger Delta
According the report, the engagements have played an important part in raising expected oil revenues. Already, Nigeria’s External Reserves have grown by more than $4 billion in the last three months.

10. Collaboration with China.
President Buhari’s April 2016 visit to China, has unlocked billion of dollars in infrastructure funding. Construction will begin on the first product of that collaboration, a 150km/hour rail line between Lagos and Ibadan, in Q1 2017.

11 The National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (NERGP).
The Federal Government’s medium-term Economic Plan, is due for launch in February 2017, and will chart a course for the Nigerian economy over the next four years (2017 – 2020),” it stated

The descendants of Oranmiyan are the Alaafins who have ruled / still ruling in Oyo town. It is not about superiority, it is about shared history. What do you have to say about Enugu state getting more than Katsina state

How about we now go further to break this thing down according to population and check, say, per capita expenditure in each of the zones?? That is how you can tell if there's been foul play or not.

The reason why folks like Reno seem to remain relevant is because we have an almost endless supply of intellectually lazy folks crawling everywhere in the country, especially those whose minds have been ravaged by hatred.

This is what we keep saying about the presidential media team Modath. Those guys are too damn lazy!! This is an opportunity to bury "Wendel Simlin" forever but they'd never see it!! Get the population of the states and give us a breakdown of the figures per capita. I'm too damn sure when this is done, it would be revealed Buhari has done nothing but marginalised the North!

Brother, you have mentioned the marginalisation of the north even though states such as Akwa Ibom State (N1.92 billion) and Bayelsa State (N3.21 billion) contribute largely to the income used to finance the Nigerian budget but are not provided with the adequate government infrastructural development and you wonder why there is militancy. Let us be fair to ourselves. it is bad enough that some states can not sustain themselves without resource sharing formula. You need to know that in most developed countries, states such as Dubai control its resources without little interference from Abu Dhabi.

God bless Nigeria
