^^^ Selective approach is one the reasons we have many denominations. This does not mean that God isn't worshipped and feared in the other denominations. It is difficult to argue for or against but let the Holy Spirit that is within you teach you do as your heart convicts is the answer I have for now. Maybe one day as I continue to study the word, I may get better understanding. People also use this approach hypocritically to champion a cause (slavery) OR to duck out of serving God (agnostics) BUT God remains God and we as his children have to continue to seek his face for better understanding of His word. If his stance doesn't sink with you, then you will probably find a better place that would preach the word as it suits you. You are an adult and shouldn't need to be forced to attend a particular church or read the bible in a certain way. |

mama-gee: Jimmy Swaggart did it and people are still getting born again. Benny Hinn is NOT God and can sin all he wants. Saul was God's anointed king and chose to mess up, David took his stead so If Benny decides that Paula's cunchas is most important, God will use someone else and we would and should all forget about him. Simples! when he begs for money on TBN, do not donate! |

Who wins this argument?? I ask the other posters to let the guy whose brains is closed for business be, for it is all too easy to tear it down! This is why I ask that a science board be established on this forum. A lot of knowledge is being wasted on religious nutjobs trying to 'release' them from their self-induced hallucinations about using pseudo-science to prove biblical stories. Wonder why they feel the need to lie and make up theories to prove something we already know requires faith to believe? |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by ow11(m): 5:52pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
I don't understand why I have to watch people kiss in public and scream about who they want to have sex with. At the same time, I don't understand why people hate gay people and wish death or try to kill them just because they are gay. Gay people should be left alone to bang another consenting adult while gay people should leave us alone with their parades, flags and sermons. I certainly DO NOT care what a man decides to do with his anus and fail to see the reason why people get upset over the usage of an adult male's anus for purposes other than stooling. Rage should be directed at people whose actions destroy thousands of lives in one go |

Semid, Why you dey waste your time argue with this pool room analyst. Every serious analyst knows Kaita is one the best SE players right now and deserves to play for us. He would not get much game time in Europe because his style would not suit many top class European teams that have offensive ball playing midfielders with workrate of 18- 20 (Football Manager). I want to see him play in Italy with a mid-table team getting enough game time. He, Apam and Anichebe should be our spine and I am also hoping Anichebe gets more game time than that fatso at Everton this season. @12large The SE with Mikel, Etuhu, Lukman and whoever have very poor work rate and need a Kaita to do exactly what Anthony Annan does for Ghana. Simples! We are all West African and play the same way so we can learn from our more successful brothers this time |
Politics / Re: Dame Patience Jonathan And Her Poor Communication Skills by ow11(m): 7:20pm On Aug 09, 2010 |
Both of them need better speech writers and elocution classes. . .ELSE They mandate that loud mouth (Akunyili) to standardise Pidgin English and make it our second official language whilst standardising the our own 'Nigerian Standard English' like the Indians, Americans and Australians have done. In that case saying 'the girls carry second' would be considered correct in Nigerian English. She needs to ensure we have 1. Nigerian Standard English (NE) as our official language 2. Nigerian Pidgin English as our second official language as Haitians have 2 versions of French. Her ministry is Information and CULTURE!! |

Nairaland / General / Re: The Need For A Science Board! by ow11(m): 8:55am On Jul 31, 2010 |
^^^ A big difference exists between Science and Technology but I do not understand why we have a Money and Business section under general, Have a sexuality child board under romance and a different section for webmasters and programmers. . . . A science board will for example have topics about Abiogenesis, Fourier Transforms, Basin studies in Nigeria, Organic chemistry and stuff. This board is meant to be a go to area for interested students and professionals to rub minds on upcoming trends in the Science world. The Technology arm of this forum is just a big one encompassing programming, phones, computers et al. It seems Nigerians generally despise the sciences and see it as a means to get into the University if not I don't understand why the teeming undergraduates would be stuck in the romance section asking silly questions and spam the Education section which I thought initially would generate scientific discussions with 'Please help me get admission' threads. Now tell me something mama-gee, I want to post a thread about the different petroleum systems in the Nigerian basins; where do I put it (Politics perhaps) OR write about the Australopithecus Sabinus (Religion) or maybe the Genetic mutation affecting baby Nmachi (Religion, Politics or Family). Those science students with project difficulties can drop a line and people will help them. If I need someone to help me with solving for boundary values of wave equations, I would probably post it in the Religious section OR simply find another forum isn't it? Maybe Nairaland isn't the one-stop place to get ideas off Nigerians. . .That I thought was one of the goals of setting up this forum in the first place. |
Nairaland / General / The Need For A Science Board! by ow11(m): 7:04pm On Jul 28, 2010 |
Dear Moderators, I find it rather absurd that any discussion that is remotely connected with science gets dealt with in the religion board and pits smart scientists (atheists and theists) against one another with some added flavour from plain ignorant bible thumpers. The Technology section has places where programmers can ask questions, The Literature place usually takes those interested in the arts BUT nothing for science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Biology etc) and to some large extent social sciences like Economics. There needs to be a board NOT the education board that is filled with UME issues where people can ask questions and get help in science projects and possibly interact. It can be a child board in the Education section but I do feel it is necessary. . . . |
Sports / Re: Good Players Who Did Not Make It At The National Team. by ow11(m): 8:09pm On Jul 21, 2010 |
Dr Kitaun: Is this the same Seyi Ogusanya. . .The same one that played for 3SC in the 1999 CAF Champions league and moved to Enyimba to later form the Home Based CB pairing with Eric Ejiofor? Edema Fuludu scored the First goal against Congo in the 1994 CAN qualifier in Enugu and Finidi George scored the second. He was in the final 22 in Tunisia I think these two although had brief stints, did fairly well My List Loveday Omoruyi - Captain Fantastic for Julius Berger in the 90s Can't remember Bawa Abdullahi playing any SE game Macauley Chrisantus Monday Agbontaen Ekundayo Aiyejuyomi - Used to score wonderful goals for 3SC Kennedy Boboye Imama Amapakabo - Played for the Junior team but did well for Sharks for so many years. . Good goalkeeper but we had Rufai, Agu and Shorunmu during his peak so never got a look in. Sam Ledor - Wonderful midfielder who used to play for Rangers until 2 years ago Ndidi Anumunu - Very good Striker that played for Enyimba and Nationale Abubakar Musa - Eagle Cement midfielder in the late 90s and ealry noughties. . . Froze at the big stage in Nigeria '99 after loosing the armband to Rabiu Afolabi and never got a look in again. His goal against Pero athletico in the 1998 Champions league qualifier was top draw! Ibrahim Kwairanga - Used to play for Gombe United in the 90s with his brother Alhaji but was way better Terwasi Tali - The youngest of the Tali brothers in Eagle Cement of those days! Kai! The fact that Pius Ikedia went to world cup should make this n*gga cry. . . 1 Like |

12large: I agree with this point. The NFF has the habit of only inviting a certain group of home based players. . .The Beach Eagles have virtually been the same set of people over the past 3 editions and these same mediocre players played against the DRC in Abuja. That is how they invited Chibuzo Okonkwo despite the fact the guy is NOT 21 and has lost whatever form he had in 2008. Terrible! ! Personally, I wish Ibrahim would step up in Europe BUT I don't think he is brilliant. . .He is just another mediocre player we seem to be producing these days and His presence or absence would NOT make any difference to the squad which is why I don't miss him. |

@12large I know you wish to see another ball playing midfielder in the SE and wish Kwadwo Asamoah or Kevin-Prince Boateng were Nigerians. . . Please can you give me a good reason why Ibrahim who is NOT good enough for Sporting B team is good enough for the SE? Note: You are NOT allowed to use Danny Shittu's presence as a reason. . . .Shittu has more big game experience and plays as a CB and isn't expected to dictate the flow of the game. |
Culture / Re: Does Anyone Know How/why So Many People From Rivers State Have English Surnames by ow11(m): 6:42pm On Jul 21, 2010 |
@Honeric01 Michael was meant to be a generic European name but if you want to be pedantic. . .I'd use a name of Anglo-Saxon origin to buttress my point. If I get you right, Franklin Okoro - Appropriate name with an identity Heineken Lokpobiri - Daft name caused by colonial mentality Ibiwari George - Daft name caused by colonial mentality Is this what you are trying to say? If NOT then I think this issue is thrashed and dusted if I pick this from your post ''f you have to eat a snail, eat the one with fat, if you are to bear a foreign name, bear the one with meanings'' As much as we have derailed the thread, I seem to get your new stand on the issue |

@Honeric01 Abagworo's point is the same point I've trying to pass across. . .Your double standards! According to you, It smacks of a serious case of inferiority complex and colonial mentality if someone goes by a European surname BUT NOT a European first name. In a related development, NO European country speaks an African language YET African countries do and YOU don't call that colonial mentality?? You accuse the Ijaws of loosing their heritage by using European surnames and fail to see that all Nigerians are loosing their heritage with the advent of globalisation and cable TV. The people with European surnames still function exactly like their counterparts with African surnames BUT you pick that one and accuse them of colonial mentality when ALL tribes in Nigeria reek of the same problem IF you want to call it one. I don't think it is colonial mentality but if you must call one colonial mentality, then all imbibed traces of white men in our culture should be called same. |
Culture / Re: Does Anyone Know How/why So Many People From Rivers State Have English Surnames by ow11(m): 5:28am On Jul 20, 2010 |
honeric01: A quick google search would tell us what both Briggs and Michael mean anyway. . .Now we digress from the European surname to the downright ridiculous first names Ijaw people go by (Government, Vote, Manager, Senator, Sergeant, Heineken, Justice and so on). . . Well you would have to ask the parents because I also find those sort of names inappropriate. Briggs means 'Bridge' and don't tell me Linda, Frederick, Lucky and Humphrey are given based on religious beliefs too. |
Culture / Re: Does Anyone Know How/why So Many People From Rivers State Have English Surnames by ow11(m): 8:47pm On Jul 19, 2010 |
@Honeric01 All those weird names are first names usually anyway but my stance is how is Briggs as a surname worse than Michael as a first name? For me it is the same thing and smacks of double standard if you feel Michael is an appropriate name for an African and Briggs as a surname is NOT. @Ezeagu I said Brass was gotten at the port. Not exported obviously. . . . My rejoinder was to correct the notion that the English names came via sending children to England to study and the 'children' developed a taste for English surnames and thus dropped their own surnames for European surnames. . . . Well we all know why and how this came about and now live with the remnants. . .Maybe we should have done what Gaddafi did when he decided to rid Libya of any thing Italian. @ijaw-girl What about Fynecountry and Blue-Jack as common surnames in Bonny? Those names are just really funny. |

Culture / Re: Does Anyone Know How/why So Many People From Rivers State Have English Surnames by ow11(m): 10:40pm On Jul 18, 2010 |
honeric01: @Independence Surely I agree it wasn't the smartest thing to do in the world at the time but these names have remained for generations and have become part of our identity today. Like I wrote earlier, Favour, ThankGod and Blessing are Nigerian names today that are of English origin just like Hart is an Ibani name and Briggs is a Kalabari name. Oh yeah, The fedora is as annoying as the woko and etibo itself because these were also brought in by the white man. . .Look, these people have influenced a lot of our culture and these things have evolved over time like the native dress girls wear today which is quite different from what their grand-mums wore 100 years ago. So @Honeric01, do you wear shoes when you dress up in full Bini regalia? or you wear only slippers that was developed in Bini kingdom. |
