ABUJA — The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, has ordered the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to appear before him tomorrow to explain why he should not be committed to prison over his persistent refusal to respect court orders.
The court summon was sequel to a Form 49, a contempt of court proceeding initiated against the Police boss by Lagos-based human rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN.
Abubakar was accused by Falana of disobeying the judgments of three separate High Courts in Abuja which barred police from intervening in the activities of a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, the Peace Corps of Nigeria.
Specifically, the Inspector General was said to have bluntly refused to lift the purported ban placed by the police on Peace Corps since 2009, in spite of declarative orders by various courts of competent jurisdictions.
Consequently, aside asking the court to hand a two-year jail sentence to the IG to serve as an example to others in positions of authority, Falana further persuaded the court to invite the IG to appear and explain to the Chief Judge why the court orders were not obeyed.
A Federal High Court had on September 29, 2011, prohibited the Inspector General of Police, his officers, men, privies and agents from proscribing, harassing, intimidating or in any manner violating the fundamental rights of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, being a registered entity in the country.
The police was, however, alleged to have ignored the court verdict and continued to clamp down on the lawful activities of the corps with indiscriminate arrest of its officers and closure of its offices in the states of the federation.
Falana also claimed that Form 48, being a notice of consequences of disobeying a lawful court order served on police since last year, was ignored, a situation he said prompted the contempt charge upon which the court had ordered the IG to appear.
Similarly, national commandant of the Peace Corps, Ambassador Dickson Akoh, at a media briefing in Abuja at the weekend, confirmed that more of his men had been arrested by police, while official vehicles were seized in addition to closure of their offices, contrary to subsisting court orders.
Akoh told newsmen that police commissioners in the states were claiming that the Inspector General of Police had not given them orders to allow the operations of Peace Corps in line with existing court judgments.
The commandant described the action of police as uncivilized, barbaric, provoking and unwarranted, noting that the police had not appealed against the various judgment that barred it from stopping Peace Corps operations in the country.

Nigeria peace corps ,please stop this charade. Nigeria Peace corps keep referring USA having peace corps too but
the peace corps in USA is a voluntary program and not avenue to create employment for USA citizens. Will you
have the fed govt to start creating phony ministries, parastatals, paramilitaries every now and then just to employ all youths?
that is NOT possible.

In my own opinion the govt should create an enabling environment (soft loans, infrastructure, power, laws etc) for youths to be self employed, govt cant possibly employ all youths.
I pity those gullible ppl like myself and other ppl that have already dolled out money to the Peace corps.
I think the peace corp should better continue as voluntary organization and keep collecting their 45k and above
for training etc.

You keep on selling recruitment forms and training ppl (in hundreds of thousands) and also promise them
employment,Now.it is the same commandant general of Nigeria Peace Corps that said that at the eventual assent
by PMB the ratio of commissioned officer to voluntary officer will be 20%-80% (20 for officers & 80 for
voluntary office). Just imagine!, and you have already promised employment to all ppl that have enrolled.

You keep hiding under the disguise of generating employment for the youth & you think PMB cant read between
the lines!, more so you keep selling recruitment form to older ppl (40yrs and above)...is a man of 40 years and
above still a youth??.

i will keep telling ppl that they should not pay any 5k for recruitment form or 45k for some phony training. when
the federal government takes over fully there wont be need to pay for training or to buy recruitment form. Note
that there are still other fees to be paid.

WHAT IS THE JOB OF PEACE CORP IN NIGERIA
1. to promote peace in Nigeria (like the other military/paramilitary outfits have been promoting war)
2. to engage 800,000 youths in meaningful employment (Nigeria army and navy combined don't have up to
600,000 officers) grin
3. to end insurgency (without arms. na juju dem wan use grin
4. to curb cultism in secondary school and university grin
5. to curb exam malpractices. undecided undecided
and most importantly for the officers to be getting paid by the fed govt grin grin
see, the Peace corps don't have the interest of the country at heart, what they hungry for is SALARY!!! another
avenue to waste govt resources.

Nigeria peace corp should never be institutionalized just to MANAGE youth unemployment, It is wrong. Yes, it
may reduce unemployment (as fringe benefit) of the youths for a while. That should not be the main reason for
creating peace corp.

Were the NPF, Nigerian Army, Navy, FRSC etc created to tackle youth unemployment? your answer is as good as
mine.

Npower, YOUWIN and the likes are already in place for unemployed youths to be engaged with atleast.
Again, Nigeria peace corps should stop this charade.

Olodumare oooo, so u are these wise and and you are not yet in the position of leadership in this country ..... U type so foolishly embarassed...... After all, it's better for ur politicians (the Elite) to remain at the top to share our common wealth without doing anything meaningful undecided? But it is a sin for the masses (class u and ur family and friends belong) to benefit from such without doing anything..... The masses must continue to suffer pain b4 they could earn a drip from our common wealth... The thunder that will fire u their is still doing press up ehn..... Ode oshi. Ba brain....... Fela sang it in one of his songs noa..... Suffer suffer.... Suffering and smiling

So much can be deduced from your comnent.

Firstly, You might be a midget or a half man.

Secondly, you r nt fit to be in a leadership position,

Thirdly, you are selfish & largely uncultured.

Lastly, you r probably a member of peace corps in Nigeria.

I almost ignored your selfish & impertinent writeup. But I think you should borrow some common sense from ppl who are more educated, informed regarding such issue as being trashed in this topic.

So, according to you OR according to your unintelligent idea that you wrote up there....Nigeria peace corp should be created JUST for the masses/youth to benefit from the 'common wealth' please define ur 'common wealth ' oh biko ... Oh boy ! I want to believe you are smarter and educated than that.

Mementoes:

A seal in your steering rack is faulty, hence the need for replacement. Addition of black oil to your power steering fluid increases the viscosity (thickness) of the power steering fluid, thereby reducing leakage from the faulty seal.
Doing this however puts the power steering pump at risk because it does more severe work trying to pump the thicker fluid around.

So... just replace the rack if it is established that the leakage is from it.

in this recession, steering rack for whatever vehicle is costly

PEACE CORPS ENGAGES CALABAR GARMENT FACTORY TO PRODUCE 100,000 UNIFORMS

The massive investment made by the Cross River State government with the establishment of the Calabar Garment Factory has started yielding fruits as the Peace Corps of Nigeria, weekend, engaged the garment outfit to produce one hundred thousand pieces of uniforms for its officers and men.
Under the terms of the contract, the Calabar Garment Factory is to produce 40,000 pieces as the first consignment, with an additional 60,000 thousand to be produced later.
The Peace Corps of Nigeria is currently being legislated into law by the National Assembly.

Speaking while on a facility tour of the factory and delivery of materials by the corps for the production of the uniforms, the deputy national Commandant in charge of Administration, Mr. Edet Ekpenyong, expressed satisfaction with the fully automated factory and assured of the corps' readiness to synergise with the state government to ensure that the factory performs within its install capacity.
Ekpeyong particularly commended Governor Ben Ayade for his industrialisation drive as well other transformation initiatives currently going on in the state.
His word: "We are here to deliver our materials to the Calabar Garment Factory to commence production of one hundred thousand uniforms for us, but starting with forty thousand units. I am very excited and proud with what I have seen here at the factory. It is very clear that Governor Ayade is doing everything to move the state from a civil service state to an industrial hub. We have been monitoring the activities of Cross River and it has been a beehive of  industrialisation activities since Ayade came to power. The state has never been in the media the way it has been since the coming of the present government. Honestly, l am overwhelmed and we are very proud we would be working with the state."
In his response, Governor Ayade said the state government will do everything to help the corps succeed.
