It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat what will support his back. If this is not possible, then a third for food, a third for drink, and third for his breath."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2380, Book 36, Hadith 77)

This is the best diet to follow! One-third of your stomach should be full of food, so don’t overeat. One third should be reserved for water to allow your body to be nourished, free from toxins and cleansed appropriately. One third for air because we’ve all felt the pangs of overeating where even breathing and the stomach expanding to draw in oxygen causes discomfort, signalling we have eaten too much.
