Geeagu:
Hello everyone,
So as promised, here’s an update on my general experience.

POE experience : scroll to previous post below this one.

Dr: Dr Kayode Ayodele (his clinic is at Brampton, almost opposite/adjacent to the Brampton Civic Hospital)
Fee: $3,500 (this includes all antenatal visits, dr’s fees, paediatrician fee (this is who checks the baby at the hospital before you get discharged), anesthesiologist (so this covers epidural should you need it and in case of CS as well), 1 postpartum visit at 6 weeks for those who would be here at that time. I wouldn’t and I intend to visit him shortly before I leave for a quick checkup. He may or may not agree to this but that’s my plan).

Lab work:
I would advise that you find out exactly what tests your dr would need you to do and sort the ones you can sort in your country of residence especially if they are free over there like in my case.

I ended up paying about $55 for the 2 tests I did (Rubella and GBS). Unfortunately UK doesn’t offer these tests else I would have paid nothing.

Bear in mind that you are not obliged to use one particular lab. I did my research and I found out that Dynacare was cheaper than Lifelab so I went for them instead.

Hospital: Brampton Civic Hospital
Fee: $2000 per day for Mum and $600 per day for child. For vaginal birth which was what I had, you get discharged within 24hrs which means you’ll only have to pay $2,600 for mother and child. If it’s CS, the minimum stay is 48hrs which should be $5,200 for mother and child.

For me, I had a post delivery ultrascan because my placenta was manually removed and dr wanted to be sure that she got everything out ok. I forgot to ask if the money I paid already covers this but she didn’t also ask. So far (15days pp) I’ve not got any bills via post. If I do, I’ll come back and update.

So even though you’re signed up with Dr Kayode (in my case), if you went into labour when he’s not on duty, that means another dr would be assigned to you for delivery. The dr that delivered my baby (Dr Sahi) was absolutely brilliant.

Please note that hospital fee is for delivery without complications.

Birth registration (long birth certificate) and birth certificate (short birth certificate)

Fee: $60 ($35 and $25 respectively)
Paid online via Service Ontario website (www.serviceontario.ca). It’s the 4-in-1 bundle but do not tick the SIN and health card options as they do not apply to you if you’re not a permanent resident in Canada.
Be sure that all your details are correct before submitting. When we received our son’s certificate, we realised there was a mistake on dad’s dob, this means we had to call service Ontario and get them to send us a form for correction. This form cannot be obtained online, you have to call them and get them to send it to you, then you complete it, send the incorrect ones with the form back and they then send you the correct version (we’re still waiting to receive this form, I’ll update on how long it took to sort it all out).
The original one took 5 working days (applied on Tuesday, got the birth certificates Wednesday the following week).

Passport:
Even though the long birth certificate had error, we still took it along with dad’s passport. We explained the situation and luckily they agreed to still process the passport after verifying dob on dad’s passport.

Fee: $57, expedited for 5 working days for extra $50 so total paid: $107
So we applied Thursday (22/03), we’ll pick up Thursday (29/03).

Without expediting the process, the handler mentioned that the earliest pick up time would have been 9th April ie 10 working days considering the bank holidays for Easter. So not too bad although this depends on backlog etc. If not that I’d be leaving before then, I would explore that option and save my $50 to be honest.

I did ask option for next day pick up and the handler said I didn’t qualify for that option because my travel date wasn’t within 48hrs of applying. There’s an option for date of travel on the form, if you want 24hrs pick up, you should ensure this date is within 48hrs from when you apply. I didn’t ask for the cost, I’m guessing it’ll be more than the extra $50 for 5-10 business day expedited service.

I applied in person in Mississauga where I stayed so pick up will be there too. I hear you’ll have to pick up from Mississauga anyway if you applied in Brampton.

Accommodation was free for me. Transport was subsidised in the sense that my friend or her mom would take me for appointment or anything when they are available.

The few times I took uber for my antenatal it was approximately $70 round trip. I came in at 35weeks, so assuming I never got help from my friend, the minimum I’d be paying for uber would have been $350. If you drive, you may want to consider renting a car. When my hubby arrived, we rented for about 8 days and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg considering the convenience.

In summary:
Dr fee: $3,500
Hospital: $2,600
Lab: $55
Birth certificate: $60
Passport: $107
Total: $6,262

Accommodation, feeding and transport will vary depending on where you decide to go as per city and if you have any help with any of them.

Good luck to all expecting mums and dads. God bless you all!

PS - all amount are in Canadian dollars.

Great update. GOD bless you

Thanks for the info. I did fill another DS160 form with abuja as location. Unfortunately for me, the next available date in Abuja is 1st of August which is was too far. So I’m sticking to the Lagos June 20. My mum will have to join her after some weeks.

Wait till Monday for the dates to go back to normal. It's usually like that on weekends.

Hi all,
Please I need advise to the following questions
Had my baby in the US on my last visitor visa, Paid all hospital bills in cash, have all receipts, Did not use medic aid.
I want to renew my visa as its expired.

1-My husband's visa will expire in early August , Can he apply for renewal in April for a planned trip for end of August or is too early?
2-As i had a baby is it ok,me and my husband apply together or is it good we apply seperately? Both have been issued visa before seperately before marriage.
3-Is it obligatory to apply through drop box if you had a visa before or can you still apply to the the face to face interview? For our situation which is better? drop box or face interview.
4-Couple have a child who was born in the USA, when filling area people travelling with you on the DS160 form , is if advisable to state the child will be travelling with parents as visa is not required or is it not necessary?
Thank you.
1.start applying now cos the next available date for Lagos is in June already while Abuja is April. Apply now especially if you want to use Dropbox so even if you are called for interview, you will still be able to get date before your planned trip.

2. Of recent, they ve been denying people that gave birth with visitors visa, so you Amy want to apply alone. So they won't use because of one person and deny both of you. My opinion

3. Face to face would have been better but you know we want to see if we can dodge interview by doing Dropbox. You are likely to be called for interview. But try drop box first, you never can tell, you may not be called in for interview

4. Sure you should say the truth here

Mummies and daddies in the house, please advise a sister...

Like I said earlier, it seems going to give birth is no longer a good enough reason for them to issue visa, cos I think the rate of denial is so high now. And I guess to them, your account statement didn't have enough money. Or maybe from informations in your form like salary and the rest, she had already made up her mind not to issue you. Try Canada if you still have time

And generally, on their u s birth certificates they put the local address.
We know this. They put US address on birth certificate. They are just playing with us and giving excuses for denial.

Hello house, is the news about the increment of visa fee from 64k to 110k from March 26th true?
If it's true, it should be on their website. They can't just start charging new visa fee without prior notice. I wonder who started this rumour.

Please ignore my earlier post as I just confirmed that Nigeria is exempted from the 6 months passport validity rule (to USA). However, you may still want to consider renewing the passport since there is still time.
Can someone apply for visa with passport expiring in October? Interview may be in April

Sorry man.
You were just a victim of Ill luck and little preparation. You took a lot for granted. You assumed the vo had gone through your records and you had an advantage.
I always shout it from the rooftops, take charge of your interview.
Q:Do you have travel history?
Yes : I went to the US in.... Stayed for three weeks. My visa is still valid. I chose the interview route so I can come with my wife who was refused just prior to our wedding.

U place your strengths first. Have him look at your passport. Have him see for himself. Again, have him consider the two separate issues ie renewal and issuance to a first timer. People rarely go in for interviews when they still have the dropbox option. The vo Simply assumed you didn't have it. Trust me, your case may have been his first time of seeing it.
What happened was simply that the vo went for the weakness in the application cos you didn't lead him to your strength. I maintain that you should reapply before it expires and state all this in your next ds 160. The next vo will take out time to consider the issues more carefully.

@Seye Every interview has an outcome. Issued or denied. Simple. He wasn't issued. And dropbox option is only available to one that has been refused in between
So much knowledge in this your post. Welldone LadyG

@ Shinethelight.....I believe your faith can work for you o, nothing is impossible.

I applied for my visa Nov.15th and got the message to pick up my passport in January, exactly 55days after I applied. I have read on this very thread that some people have gotten their visas processed in one month; i have also seen one week processing time on this thread. So if you have the faith, I would say go for it...........

On hospital, Dr Ayodele of Brampton Civic is still taking patients at the old price of $3500cad for doctor's and $2600 for hospital. You would have to pay both fees to him immediately you register though. The doctors fees is for both Vaginal and CS. However, if you are having CS, you would need to pay for 2days hospital stay which is 2600x2=5200.

Missusaga is very close to Brampton, less than an hour depending on what part of Missusaga you would be staying; not bad in my opinion.

Ha dserious, you've reached Canada already, counting on you for all the info. I wish you safe delivery.

I like your faith. Having twins means travelling even earlier. So get the application going and submit as soon as you can. I don't know if there is option for expedited appointment like in US embassy, that would have just worked. All the best

Yes, though not a first time mum. Nothing really challenging. You just have to be strong for yourself and of course, you can ring the nurse department if you need any help.
