i guess we will save more lives if the okada is banned across Nigeria.

Their impatience is unparalleled. If we survived before they came, we can survive without Okada.

They have no regards for other road users including the pedestrians. They always go against the traffic.

If you drive a car in lagos, chances are high that you must have had encounters with okada. Mores, they are always eager to gang up in support of their member and ever ready to beat up the other party regardless of who is right or wrong .

Most of them are violent in nature. By their attitude you can tell they do not value their lives much less of the passengers. I choose alternative means of transport.

I sympathuse with the dead and his family because we cannot place a value to life. But we all are witnesses to the avoidable loss of lives we see on a daily basis due to the reckless attitude of most Okada riders.

2 weeks ago, a soak-away truck carrying human waste was burnt to ashe somewher around 2nd rainbow on the way from mile 2 along Apapa -Oshodi Expressway.

Last week saturday at about 12:30,pm, right opposite the BRT office at Ketu underbridge, an elderly woman clad in bolue lace was crushed to death by a vehicle when the okada rider tried to force his way.

I ask, ''How many more people need to be sent to Orthopaedic centers or hoe many more lives will be enough to justify the banning of Okada?''

I know people will talk about unemployment. But human lives are far greater in value than any dangerous employment. We know armed robbery is bad yet some armed robbers and kidnappers will offer unemployment as the driving force even though it's unacceptable to the society.

I pray that banning of okada out of Nigeria will happen sooner than later

Hi,

Charcoal business, as it is done here is not proper. I was thinking of going into the biz along with a couple of friends. But when I realise the degree of deforestation and environmental degradation going on to produce charcoal for both local and foreign market, I opted out immediately.

No one bothers about re-planting the trees. For every container of charcoal you see going abroad, over 500 or more trees may have been felled down without any consideration of what happens to the environment.

When the trees in one area have been completely depleted, they move to new areas and start all over again and again!

Unfortunately, no one seems to care. Corruption and lawlessness in our country makes such biz thrive unlike in develop countries where you are expected to plant more tree and you dare not cut any tree!

While there is nothing wrong in making money, we should think of the generations coming behind us and do nothing to make life difficult for them.

Let's make the world a better place than we met it. Most countries buying our charcoal have more trees than we do but they prefer to preserve their own.

Ask yourself, when last did you plant a tree?

Pple may not agree with me but I think there are better businesses we can do without hurting the environment

Coal is a better biz even though this has also contributed to erosion in the east. it is still a lesser evil.

I am a bizman but I am choosy in the line of business I do because I am responsible to God, humanity and the environment. I expect same of every businessman and woman.

My people, money is not everything o!!

Let us protect and preserve our environment for the coming generations!

It is disheartening to hear that fellow nairalander can continue to defraud anyone at that. Moreso a fellow member

Lesson one. Don't you ever be quick to trust people, moreso strangers.

In any given transaction, ensure you agree to terms that will give you the possession of the goods.

Ensure you only deal directly with the owner of the goods.

Way Forward

Report him to EFCC,

But you can track him down better if you have his and his wife picture(s),

You can post it on the internet, Nairaland, facebook etc you can also seek the help of the electronic media to track him down (if you know someone in the media or you can reach Moyo or mofe of star fm and Murhi Tv. I believe they can help)

There are lots of "Vultures" on Nairaland looking for who to devour!

So, others BEWARE!

 wish you a successful hunting of the bastard and recovery of your money.

Pictures usually do the magic because people can easily recognise his face and give you more details about him.

In addition, get accross to his network provider, they can monitor his movement through his phone line

Reading through all the posts,

Three things stands out.

It is glaring that the love, unity and religious tolerant among nigerians is at best artificial in nature.

There are people who will argue that they are not bothered about the islamic banking issue but its constitutionality. Yet hiding their real hatred under the ''illegality''.

A discerning mind can read in between the lines. With myriad of problems in the country, it is surprising that only on islamic banking that some people suddenly become constitutional lawyers!

While there are some ignorant and uninformed posts here, others are pre-occupied with sentiments and biased commentaries.

Some others like rhymez have mixed up the true picture of what islamic banking entails.

Aside from the constitutionality of it which anyone or institutions with ''locus standi'',

Why are some people afraid of muslims having a bank that conforms with their faith?

Should muslims rise against the use of sundays as a work-free days or the declaration of both Fridays and Sundays as work-free days how would the xtians feel?

Apart from Sentiments, nobody's right has been violated by the establishment of islamic banking. Rather, muslims now have their right recognized. If we find it difficult to tolerate each other like our forefathers did, then i am afraid for the future of this entity called ''Nigeria''

Or ar they saying we do not have the right to exist and practice our faith in our country?

Islamic banking is guided by islamic laws and therefore can not be a mere non-interest banking as some people will prefer.

Businesses that are not islamic compliant will not be undertaken

Interest are not given on nomal deposits and the amount remains constant, In other instances, certain deposits are used for investment of course with the permission of depositors. In such case, depositors can either expect profits in addition to the deposits or loss (in extremely rare case) depending on the outcome of the business

Islamic banking thrive largely on profit and loss sharing. That is why their conditions are bit stringent. If the business prospect is not good enough, you may not get through.

Where in you have a convincing business idea, then finance will not be a challenge anymore. No one will ask you for collateral.

It will certainly help those who can think outside the box but do not have money to finance their project.

Islamic banking license has been given in principles to Stanbicibtc and Standard Chartered banks.

Atedo Peterside of StanbicIbtc is obviously not a muslim, what most uninformed nigerians do not know is that there are lots of Xtians both in and outside nigeria who are well-grounded in islamic finance.

I urge interested and unbiased members of this forum to google info on islamic finance or banking and then form your opinion.

The problem is that we politicise every issue along tribal or religious lines to our collective detri however noble the issue may be.

I'm told that there are about four deputies to Sanusi Lamido who are devoted christians. Okonjo Iweala endorsed Islamic Banking openly. GEJ could stop Sanusi if need be but because all these people mentioned above know better.

People should really convince themselves that sentiment is not at the heart of their argument.

What i see here is 90% Sentiment, 10% ignorance Period!

Business / Re: Biscuit Business by page9(m): 6:45am On Jun 11, 2012
I guess you are talking about locally produced biscuit right?

Well i know it's a good business, demand is high for biscuit especially among the kids.

However profit in the business is largely driven by volume because the margin per unit or per carton is very low.

That's more reason why people in this business must be properly located to drive volume.

secondly, you may need to add allied products to augment your profitability and ensure you have major brands in high demand in your stock.

Do your homework very well before you take the plunge.

Best of luck

I still maintain my stand.

you requested for ''sincere suggestions?''

Here you told us your newly married husband want to set you up in biz and ask you to provide a good biz for him to finance.

Good, now you find it difficult to search for good business ideas, you expect d forumites to do it for you.

so what will be your own contribution to ur success?

Even when you are told what to do, you still do not want to do it yourself, asking me to get d links for you because your BB can't do it:

I honestly don't see d passion and determination to succeed in you and i can't waste my valuable time on you,

I believe you can get d info urself if indeed you are really passionate about it.

Before BB, everyone used cybercafes. if ur BB can't help you why don't you help urself through alternatives.

stop this ''more ideas pls''

Forgive me if i am wrong,

But i have come to the conclusion that you are a bit lazy at searching for the right information yourself.

As far as i am concerned, there are more than 100 similar posts in this forum where people have offered valuable business ideas free of charge. Why re-invent the wheel?

All you need to do is sieve the info and do more research on your choice of business.

Mind you, your budget, experience and educational backgrounds, financial discipline will determine your choice of business and success of it.

Wish you a happy and fruitful hunting!

Best luck

for me,
I make use of reminders on my various phones to keep track of activities. But it is always difficult to accomplish much if you are not a bit strict with time.

But more important, a serious and growing ceo will sooner than later need to buy other people's time to achieve more within that 24hrs that is often so short.

For me, I have a personal assistant and a secretary along with others who have been trained and are paid to do most of the jobs except the knotty and decisive ones that only the CEO can handle.

That way, the CEO can concentrate on the most important part of the business.

If the business can afford to hire a P.A., it won' be a bad idea, as they do most of the legwork for the CEO.

Business / Re: You Do Not Need Money To Start A Successful Business by page9(m): 9:43am On May 10, 2012
@ ghettolove, forgiven and onyek

Old habits die hard, 80% of graduates in Nigeria have "Job Seeking Mindset", 17% of them desire to set up their own business but see capital as an undefeatable obstacle hence they join the first batch of 80% totally 97%!

Only about 3% of this population is making serious progress with their lives.

The 2 holy books mentioned that the poor will always be in our midst.

By their mindset, some people are in perpetual marriage with poverty. While some choose the 7am to 8pm banking work (which appear juicy) because of the fear of unknown.

I will rather not comment on the topic, i am more interested in the fact that a determined and persistent man or woman with a good idea and willingness to share can always find a way to raise capital.

I have single-handedly financed someone's idea.

From my experience, most people do not believe in their idea. Some often create a phony idea to swindle others.

Therefore, the fact that someone refuse to finance your idea does not mean you should give up.

The most important thing in business is you and your mindset.

No matter how you try to convince some lost minds, they will not yield.

Not their fault, it is the way God almighty and nature made it that less than 5% of any country's population will be rich (China & USA inclusive)

For those who desire to join the 5%, be ready to burn the midnight candle.

I remember the story of a lady, she was a student of Unilag then, she wanted to engage in recharge card sales on campus, then I was a GSM dealer.

She needed N50,000 worth of stock. I told her, i could not give her 100% credit but if she could provide 50% of the capital (N25,000), then we can help with the balance.

She promised to raise the money. A week after, she came back telling me to give her the N25k stock i promised her without putting the balance! Because she had use the money for something else!

Upon enquiry, she confessed she that she bought Samsung phone "Razor blade" as it was called then from someone who bought the phone for N45,000 and was willing to sell it to her for a give away price of N25k.

Hence, she gave the seller the 25k she had raised for the recharge card business because she did not want to miss the offer!

What do you make of this? If someone can divert her seed capital for such an impulse buying product, do you need a crystal ball to know that such person cannot be trusted with other peoples money?

Nigeria is full of these kind of people. No discipline of any sort!

@ Ajanlekoko

The writer attempted to x-ray the church from his understanding. But for you, Islam is responsible.

FYI, islam is still the fastest growing religion in the world! Even in the western world! Can you beat that?

 hardly comment or react to people like you because that usually amount to a waste of valuable time and energy but  am reacting in this particular instance for the benefit of others.

There are two distinct categories of Christains, the informed who seek independent understanding of issues before making comments, and the uninformed, who depend on the equally uninformed pastors for their opinions.

From their comments you can tell which category they belong.

In the same vein, Muslims are also in two categories. The informed and uninformed. From their actions you can tell which category they belong.

But not all violent organizations are religiously motivated. Boko haram is certainly not a religious organisation.

Jonathan and PDP know much more than the rest of us.

Where was the Boko Haram before now, obasanjo is a christain and he ruled Nigeria for 8yrs without any Boko Haram, he had more problem during his tenure with Niger Delta Militants. Please think and you will Ơ̴̴̴͡.̮Ơ̴̴̴͡ the larger picture

So, how cam a sane person expect me to leave my religion on the account of groups like Boko Haram?!

Joseph Kony of Lord's people resistance army and the likes have not changed christains from leaving christainity why should misguided groups like Boko Haram and Al-qaeda be a reason for informed adherents of Islam be influenced by these group bearing in mind the media propaganda of the west agaist islam

Please, let us think properly before we pass unguided commeents about others faith. No one is happy to hear or see his or her religion ridicouled

Business / Re: Soap Making As A Highly Profitable Business by page9(m): 9:33am On Apr 25, 2012
For as long as you intend to produce for commercial purpose and sell to the general public. NAFDAC registration and approval is a MUST!
You will face d challenge more in marketing because people are more aware about NAFDAC no on most products.

Some people like me will not touch your soap with a pole if it does not have NAFDAC number and I am sure I am not alone.

I know that soap production entails the mixture of several chemicals especially caustic soda and soda ash and if not properly produced, can damage human skin that come in contact with it.

To be able to market soap successfully, people must be willing to try your soap and you surely need to expand territory. In doing that, you may be fishing in dangerous water if you want to do commercial production without NAFDAC approval!

You may end up on NTA with Handcuffs like a criminal.

To get the NAFDAC approved standard factory, you will need a couple of millions.

You can learn about the production if you have passion for it but take your time before you take the plunge.

I have attended several seminars and bought several manuals on soap production but I don't think I have all the required resources to do justice to the business. For me, what is what doing at all is what doing well. No APOLOGY
