Politics / Re: This Is Why many Hausas And Yorubas Will Always Vote Wrongly. by paxx: 12:25am On Feb 21
Kepukepu:
It does make sense that people who have been accustomed to a certain type of system might be more likely to support leaders who reflect those values, even if they are not good for them. There's a concept called "path dependence" that refers to how the choices we make in the present are shaped by the choices we made in the past. So, in a country that has recently transitioned from monarchy to democracy, it's possible that the effects of that historical system are still present in the culture and may influence people's political decisions.

Yorubas and Hausa had organized monarchical systems where they paid homage to a single strong leader called Oba or Emir, this influences their political choices as well. They always see a reason to depend on someone who takes the position of what the Obas and Emirs were in this current dispensation, irrespective of whether the person is capable or not. They always want to be led and to have someone they can call their leader. So it does not matter if the person is competent, they will follow him. It's in tune with their culture
This mentality is more pronounced with the hausas than with the Yorubas because the Yorubas re more liberal and has accepted western education more, however this cultural trait is still there in both tribes.

So Yorubas and Hausas are more likely to obey a leader who can enforce himself and create the image of protecting their cultural heritage than someone from the east or southsouth. It's in their culture to worship humans like demigods.
It's the way many Yorubas perceive Tinubu, Awolowo and Abiola and how most northerners perceive Buhari.

It's hard for someone to attain the status of a demigod in the east even Ojukwu who led the Biafran war did not win any state during elections in the east. Peter Obi is getting popular because of his competence and how he sold himself (most Tinubu supporters will argue this).

genius analysis btw. what do you think the solution is? R u on whatsapppp

Yeah, this is just the genesis of the whole problem.

A Tinubu supporter from the west does not see Tinubu as the solution to Nigeria's problems, he sees Tinubu as a person that projects the cultural heritage of the Yorubas. A demigod

Omo Naija,

Their talk dey change like weather, and once dem enter power, all their sweet promises go just disappear.

Na like film trick, dem dey join every movement, no be because dem believe am, but just to make sure dem dey every side. Dem dey form like say dem dey for everybody, but true true, e fit be for their own pocket.

This kind game dey make am hard to know who to trust for politricks. Wetin we fit do? We need to open our eye well well, ask plenty questions, and make sure say all dem political parties dey straight with us.

No be joke, smart voters na dem be the koko for correct democracy. We need to make sure say our politricks dey about true service, no be just to dey play us.

Abeg, share your own tori. How we fit make sure say our politricks stay correct and follow the true way of democracy?

There you have it! When folks like me who understand your Nigeria more than the majority of you tell you that, your government is the sponsor of terrorism, you come on this platform and others to defend the indefensible. If you have any modicum of sense, tell me why would your government release over 500 Fulani terrorists back into the communities that they had been terrorizing. And you do not see anything wrong with that? The problem is that Nigerians are very dishonest people. They lie and tell themselves that what's BAD is GOOD and vice versa. But the beauty of it all is that despite all their grandiose delusion about the country, the citizens are seeing and feeling the effects of their dishonesty.

Politics / Over 70,000 Repentant Boko Haram Members Have Been Resettled Into The Community by paxx: 6:34pm On Feb 15
The Borno State government said, on Wednesday, that the 160,000 repentant Boko Haram insurgents can’t return to killings because they swore to an oath with the Quran.

The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, whose ministry oversees the affairs of the ex-combatants and rescued captives, added that of the 160,000 repentant insurgents, 70,000 had been resettled and reintegrated into their communities.

Gambo stressed that having sworn by the Quran the ex-terrorists would never return to the bush to rejoin Boko Haram.

She spoke at the public presentation of survivors, victims and deradicalised women of Boko Haram by the UKAID-assisted Maiduguri-based non-governmental organisation, Allamin Foundation.

The commissioner allayed the growing public fears that the resurgence of terror in the North-East was being caused by the repentant terrorists reneging on their repentance and trooping back to the bush to pick up arms against the Nigerian state.

She said, “It is completely untrue that the repentant Boko Haram fighters are reneging on their repentance and returning to the bush to continue fighting.

“Out of the over 160,000 who repented, we have already reintegrated over 70,000 in their home communities, and I can assure you that no one will be missing should we decide to gather all of them for anyone to confirm. We operate a transparent process of their repentance.”

The commissioner said she was sure the repentant insurgent would not return to the trenches, having taken an oath with the Quran.

“We subject each of them to proper oath taking with the Holy Quran that he or she will never return to the bush to fight; and he or she swears with the Holy Quran in the presence of a committee comprising traditional rulers, religious leaders and government officials.

“No repentant Boko Haram dare renege on the oath because he or she knows what it means to swear with the Holy Quran and renege; and he or she knows that he or she dare not return to the bush because he or she knows that death awaits him on arrival; their commanders in the bush will kill him because they would not trust him.”

Gambo said about 75 per cent of the repentant insurgents were originally farmers, who were captured and forced into insurgency.

“They were not real fighters,” she said.

She, however, said the state government would study the entire charters of demand and do everything it could about them.

The charter comprises the demands of the survivors and victims from the government, security agencies, NGOs, the media, traditional and religious leaders, community members and other stakeholders for proper rehabilitation to a prosperous life.

Politics / Boko Haram: 500 detained suspects released in Borno by paxx: 2:05pm On Feb 15
The Borno State government said, on Wednesday, that the 160,000 repentant Boko Haram insurgents can’t return to killings because they swore to an oath with the Quran.

The Borno Government says it has cleared 500 suspects of involvement in terrorism and had them released from the Nigerian Army detention facility at Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri.

The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, said this in Maiduguri while responding to a leader of some aggrieved women in Borno, Hajiya Gana, who alleged that some of their innocent men and children were being held at the barracks.

Mrs Gambo spoke during a question and answer session at a Public Presentation of Charters of Demand from Survivors, Victims and De-radicalised Women in Borno, organised by an indigenous NGO, Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development.

He said all those released in batches were handed over to the Borno State Government.

“The latest batch released last week were 28 in number,” Mrs Gambo said.

She assured those whose relations were arrested by the military in connection with the insurgency to entertain no fear as long as such relations were innocent.

Mrs Gambo said the state government is working closely with the military to ensure justice and fairness to all suspects.

The commissioner lauded the foundation for being at the forefront of seeking justice for the vulnerable and promoting peace and reconciliation in the state.

She said the government would look into the charter of demand from the survivors and victims of the insurgency, adding that many of the demands were being addressed under the “Borno Model” following the mass surrender of insurgents and their families.

The commissioner said that the Borno Model was a community-based approach involving all stakeholders.

Also speaking on innocent persons in detention, the Executive Director of Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, Hamsatu Allamin, lauded the Army for providing periodical access to the foundation to visit those in detention at Giwa Barracks.

Mr Allamin also noted the periodical release of those identified as innocent and urged the military to sustain the tempo to ensure that no innocent member of the society suffers for a crime he or she did not commit.

The highlight of the occasion was the presentation and review of the charter of demand by Abubakar Mu’azu, a professor who is the Director of, Centre for Peace, Development and Diplomatic Studies at the University of Maiduguri.

You guys make me laugh. When are you going to stop disgracing Nigeria with talks that make it seem you're from Mars and totally devoid of the reality of our nation?

When Buhari locked up Sambo Dasuki for 4 years and did not even look in the direction of GEJ who authorised the release of the billions Dasuki shared, what do you fifth columnists think that was about?

Did Buhari ever touch Jonathan, his wife or members of their inner crew for you to now be suggesting Tinubu should arrest, jail and disgrace Buhari?

The way you people talk, devoid of recognition of the adage "when in Rome behave like a Roman" , is what convinces me Nigerian youth are not replacing the older generation anytime soon.

You lot just don't have any ability to think critically, pragmatically or practically in conjunction with on-ground reality that guides how things are done and what can or cannot be done. You just talk recklessly.

problems should be solved at their root. Who signed off on the things Emiefele was doing? We need to investigate these things and investigate how involved Buhari was.

Apart from those who genuinely need dollars to buy goods and pay school fees abroad.

Nigerian politicians convert billions of naira they stole to dollars to make it portable. Some Nigerians also change the naira to dollars for show off at parties. These are they people who denied those who need dollars to do legitimate business

Sigh.... It's not an obsession with dollars, it's just a way of showcasing how the naira has lost its value over time. When a currency dramatically loses its value, it means that people can not save ... Here is an explanation

Let's say I'm a content creator in Nigeria. How will I be able to buy the tools required for making content. In the globalized world no country produces everything, you have to buy things that are being produced outside the country. A weak currency makes it difficult to purchase things.

I guess you won't mind Peter Obi's kids opening school for kids in Anambra to learn Ibibio abi na Efik he (Obi) go marry..

Go through the thread and you'll find where a NLer pointed it out that the guy mentioned in his documentary that his Igbo mom was always frowning whenever they try to speak Yoruba.. I can confirm this bad habit among Igbo women married to our men because I have witnessed several scenarios like that.. Like why will you go and marry from a tribe you can't stand their language and culture?

In that same video he said his father would be mad whenever the mom speaks igbo. Seems like they were not able to embrace BOTH cultures - which would have been an EASY fix.

Why would you marry a woman and not want her to speak her language to her children? both of them should have compromised.
