jollymizzle:
Op I'm not Igbo, and I'm not trying to start a tribal war rather just make some points. I too have lived in the north. I spent 12plus years there:kano state at the height of religious and ethnic crisis. The truth is the north is more peaceful now. Except maybe southern Kaduna. Now I've relocated to my beloved South west. And like I said I survived many religious and ethnic riots that claimed the lives of many Igbo and yoruba people. The truth is till this moment I do not hate any hausa man. They are also victims as much as those they were trying to kill. You need to see how some hausa defended Yorubas and igbos with their lives to know what's truly going on.ask your brothers who live in these remote places if they truly hate their hosts. You will find out none of them do. Why? Because they understand better than anyone after all they are the ones living there. On the issue of relocating their businesses back home and all that. I'd respectfully say that you are being naive. Igbos today take pride in their ability to make it anywhere. The truth is the igbo's have a talent for trade . we are different from each other and we all must know our strengths and weaknesses. Those people you are asking to return home all know where they 'made' it. And it wasn't in Igboland. How many great Igbo business men and women made their fortune while sitting in the east? Find out their percentage and you will begin to understand that this one Nigeria is a partnership. So who would heed that call. Whether or not you wish to secede from Nigeria is what the igbo's should really think about. You may think other people hate you but many of your own made it other places. Places where you curse. The truth remains that if other peoples of Nigeria hated igbo's as much as you like to belive, your sons and daughters won't be at every nook and cranny of Nigeria . where they set up businesses and are patronized by their host.

Super correct.

Enough of rhetorics like "ndi-abia" or "ndi-anambra" or "ndi enugu" and ndi-whatnot.

Time to legitimize ndi'igbo and shun the silly political divisions/tags that have been used to keep us in check for 50 years.

So, what exactly is your problem?

There's no way you can compete globally with the current starndard of Aba made products. Plus, it will take a massive amount of capital to up the starndard and open up the global export market for Aba made shoes - that's in terms of marketing and logistics, plus design and manufacturing.

So why waste time in mediocrity when a global brand is willing to put their money where your mouth is?

Truth is, once this industrial city takes off, the chinese owned factory won't be able to meet up wirh the export demand. But they will successfully open up the GLOBAL export market for many 100% Aba shoe makers while upping their design and finishing game.

In that way, all round global excellence will be entrenched in the entire system rather than celeberating regional championship.

And those who are castigating this move should tell us why a foreign automaker is prefered for lagos modern shuttle buses rather than those made by Innoson motors?

FYI, OVI is about opening up a bunch of foreign markets for his enterprising people. A bunch of foreign markets that will totally do without Nigeria.

How many of you who run your mouths here can boldly flaunt your Aba made shoes?

So what do you think is the reason I could not see a single Igbo identity in the Lagos @50 success story billboards?

Or are you saying that faces of folks like Linda Ikeji and Cosmas Maduka who started from scratch in lagos and got to the point where they are now heavily invested in the state are less qualified to adorn those billboards than, say, Olajumoke, for example?

Is that glaring omission due to politics too, or pure tribal hatred?

Igbophobic rhetorics and behaviours did not start today.

The only thing that's happening now is that Igbo's are no longer keeping quite when your people pour out hate on them. Although I do not personally endorse hate for hate, but fact is that some folks from igbo extraction have started retaliating in kind (often in multiple folds). Unfortunately your people enjoy dishing it out but hate taking it in.

A historical search on nairaland will show you that this stuff did not start today. It actually was there BEFORE the birth of Kanu. So the Kanu factor was only the result triggered by decades of institutionalized anti-igbo sentiments and rhetorics.

jollymizzle:
i may not be as blunt as he is but seriously you igbos have taken this too far . You would want me to condemn him for his outburst after you guys let kanu loose on the rest of us. The OP was not sorry about the genocide. He justified it.

His brethren (both in this thread and elsewhere) hate and mock igbos for their innate drive to create wealth. But they forget that these are poeple who were singled out and were COLLECTIVELY defranchized both economically and institutionally just a few decades ago, by the monetery and economic policies of the same Pa Awo whom they love to adore.

So I don't really get what your point is

You see, dung like the one coming from the personified failure below is the exact reason Nnamdi Kanu thrives.

The damaged entity is freely spewing bigoted and hateful nonsense now, but by the time his superiors arrive and return it to him a hundred fold in kind, he will start whimping.

aribisala0:
I know Eboes first hand no one told me about them. They are a spiteful hateful bunch full of inferiority feelings. Those Yorubas who do not know them might think why do Eboes hate Yorubas. Eboes do not hate Yorubas theey hate everyone ,I repeat everyone even the children of their mother.Quote me anywhere.A typical Eboe man wants to be the first whether he deserves it or not and he desires it for no other reason than the power to dominate and humiliate his fellow man. He wants to be able and does order grown men to be brought to his house and flogged just to show who is boss. If he hs money he caan tell his father's mates to shut up and they oblige.Money is God for the Eboe

If anything I am more Eboe than many of these internet Eboe warriors. I have participated in their age grade initiation rites in the Bush, the ritual humiliations and so on.Some people think to be Eboe it is enough to answer Emeka or Ngozi. They are probably the most fetish people in Nigeria. Many of the jokers calling themselves Eboes simply have no clue what being Eboe is alll about. They think it is about name and language. I laugh. A true Eboe man must belong to a cult.Fact.He must be initiated.Fact..not once but several times as he gets older.
The Yoruba have a saying
Kini kan ba Ajao je. One thing sullies Ajao

Ajao the Gorilla would hae been perfect but for one thing its arms are longer than its legs.
Indeed no one is perfect.
The Eboe rituals of preparation for manhood are among the most robust I have seen, firsthand but it is entirely selfish, driven by fear and inferiority and ultimately destructive.

Everything the Eboe man does is drien by a desire to become a kind of god among his people. He cannot acept being second in his heart even if he is bested he would rather lie or try to explain why the first is soehow undeserving.
No doubt Anambra Eboes are unique among the Eboes and they would never pretend to like the other Eboes ,of whom theyy are totally contemptuous, if not for the existential threat they feel in Nigeria

It's good that you are getting the point.

Thing is, folks like Kanu are REACTING to silly anti-igbo rhetorics (like yours as bolded below) which seem to have been embeded on the genetic fabrics of many Nigerians. And until you folks stop the dumb igbophobic rants and behavior you will have to keep contending with more and more Kanus.

Finally, claiming that no igbo leader has ever condenmed Kanu is just a hairy BIG FAT lie. Do you even know why Okorocha was attacked in london? In fact an igbo DG in one of the agencies is a vocal critic of Kanu. He even critisized him last week. What of the spokesman of Lagos APC? You talk like someone who is oblivious of the media trend.

jollymizzle:
I won't argue but I'll just state one fact, on Oba akiolu's speech, lagos state government, asiwaju tinubu, ambode, many other Yoruba sons and daughters, myself, dissociated ourselves from that unfortunate outburst. The records are there. Now name just one igbo man who has condemned kanu's hate speech,You see that's the difference between yorubas and igbos.after reading the numerous post by many igbos here, all of you forgetting that fact, I'm saying this without any apology :majority of you igbos are insensitive and inconsiderate and unreasonable . I don't see any end to this cold war, in fact it might get to a confrontation. I can see many posts here stating that the tribal war exists only on nairaland, blissful ignorance is the phrase to describe that. well I got cured of that ignorance a couple of years ago. As for kanu, he is only reaping what he sowed. I will cont to say this, the present generation of igbos are a disgrace to their fathers. They are filled with hate, and pride. Your father's who fought the war moved on and forgave but you who didn't even witness what happened have turned hate into your driving force.

You are talking arrant nonsense.

No Eze or Obi in igbo land will ever threaten anyone (be it the housa or yoruba community) to vote the obi's or eze's or council of elders's choice of candidate. Get that into your head.

And here's something else:

1. Your oba's threat of mass murder WAS NOT AS A RESULT OF ANY OPEN DEFIANCE. The man simply woke up from the wrong side of his bed, summoned Igbo leaders in lagos and issued a baseless threat. So quit twisting the history.

2. Ambode's opponent was not an Igbo man. Jimmy was as Yoruba as Ambode. So the threat has nothing to do with culture or ethnic political preservation. It was purely an abuse of authority which was driven by personal selfishness and fear. And few sane yoruba people did condemn the oba's behavior.

kingsouthie:

...keep your setiments aside, im talking of traditional rulers, your eze or obi or council of elders, would you expect "outsiders" to openly defy their "orders" right in their face and they would take it calmly given the implication of their sit?if i may ask, how many yorubas or niger-deltans occupy political sits in the east?
Look around you, look at nigeria as it is today, look at your idea of biafra, if you think what the oba of lagos said concerning lagos state election or what awolowo did in the 1960s or the yorubas or niger deltans are your stumbling block then cont with your arguement...

1) Change your fake monica to reflect your yoruba identity, since you think that yoruba is better than igbo.

2) There is nowhere in Nigeria where Igbos have ever moved against the CULTURE of their host community.

3) It's the RIGHT (and constitutionally so) of any igbo man to vote WHOMSOEVER he likes WHEREEVER he lives as far as one Nigeria remains.

4) Your Oba's hate and aim to dictate who the igbos should vote for in lagos was not only foolish, but grossly illegal.

5) It's sheer ignorance that makes you think that the ENTERPRISING Igbos migrate to other parts of the world to seek refuge.

chibuzorAbia:

If Igbo don't want to be dictated to, or submit to other people's culture and civility, shouldnt they just stay at home? And live peacefully in their ancestors land in the culture they are familiar with?

No, that's not a common reaction in the South East. Otherwise someone like Ojukwu would not lose any election in the region - but he did. Why? Because no single individual ever has the right or power to DICTATE actions to people. Even sitting governors have been resisted by the people in the south east let alone a traditional ruler.

Fact is, you simply CANNOT comprehend what I'm saying here. Why? Because the concepts of individualism and democracy are totally alien in your culture.

You perfectly captured one of the inreconcilable differences between the igbo and yoruba cultures.

For example, you're quick to justify your Oba's hate speech; and insist that it was right to threaten Igbos with mass murder if they ever refuse to be deprived of their political franchise and constitutional rights to vote whomsoever they wish to be the governor (by their individual convictions) simply because they reside in Lagos.

But you missed one thing: "Igbo ama eze",

Igbo ama eze loosly means that no one dictates to an average igbo man what to do.

And that's not "an insult" to anyone as you taged it...

It's simply a CULTURAL thing...

It's in them...

Igbo MEN do not bend down to salute their rulers or elders.

To you that may be an insult, but to igbos it's a normal culture of individuality and personal assertiveness.

Paherps this is another cultural reason you should conceed to those who insist that they want out.

kingsouthie:

the apc in lagos state have accomodated igbos well by appointing them to serve as commissioners or special advisers and then in time for election you want to back stab them to support an opposition party? isnt that an insult to the oba being in full support of the apc? if your village head is challenged by outsiders accomodated in his domain what would you expect him to do?leave pdp/apc fight out of biafra please

That's the problem you guys have. You look for peace at the expense of justice.

Any wonder why, inspite of all the propaganda, lies, politicking and political correctness, the peace you so covet has remained elusive to you more than 50 years now?.

The earlier you folks realize that having a lasting peace in this country will not be possible without justice, equity and truth, the better for everyone.

And you cannot claim to want peace now when you actively and PRESENTLY justify the past evils perpetuated by your ancestors.

Wherever there WAS opression, there cannot be peace without repentance (sometimes followed by restitution). But in the case of OP, not only was he not repentant, he IS actually justifying the evils and opporession that were carried out by his ancestors . Why? Probably because if given another opportunity, he will not hesitate to repeat the same scenario.

So, as I mentioned earlier, there's a huge difference between forgiveness and forgetfulness.

NwaforIgbo:

I sincerely agree with the op, we should keep sentiments aside. Repeating all those past sin does not do any good. We need to rather cement the east-west relationship. I may not agree with his account about awolowo's role in the war, but even if I don't, how does it change the present situation. In timesbloke this, we need allies not enemies, even if we can do it alone, what is wrong in having an Allie.

So, Mr. naevity, those who neglect their history are likely to have their future destroyed by their past.

And I think you are d$#3@&" for calling out the Igbos. The reality is that the Igbos are the most forgiving group in this country. They may not forget, but they easily forgive. Otherwise, can you tell me any other ethnic group that integrates with all parts of this nation the way the Igbos have been doing for decades? Mind you, this is in spite of the brutal genocide and many institutionalized injustice they've suffered and continue to suffer in the country.
