Episode 1 Continued.

Sapphire entered the garden happily.

She stopped for few minutes to take in her environment.

The only thing that caught her interest was a swing.

In few minutes she had positioned herself on it, using her weight to move it back and forth.

With each glide, the swing moved faster and higher.

“Hello Child.” A voice called out few meters from the swing.

She slowed down without answering but leapt off the swing suddenly.

She stopped to catch her breath as she stared at the man who now stood in front of her.

“Good afternoon Sir.” She said still breathing heavily.

“Such a wonderful place to relax.” He said as he took few steps away from the swing.

“Yes. This place reflects God’s work a lot. Isn’t God wonderful?” She looked at the man for a response.

“Of course, he is.” He replied as he looked around him with satisfaction.

“Walk with me.” He called out as he moved few steps again.

Sapphire trotted after him.

“Why is he so fast?” She thought as she tried to catch up with him.

“Shall I slow down then?” he asked to her amazement.

He looked back at her with a smile as she gazed at him in awe.

“Wow!” she finally said not finding the right words to describe how amazed she was.

“There is actually someone I know who is all knowing like this.” Sapphire said looking at him thoughtfully.

“No…” She shook her head quickly as she tried to walk past him.

“I’m not that special to him that he would show me things like this.”

He smiled.

“You are.”

“How can you know that?” she asked surprised.

“You shouldn’t doubt me after what happened minutes ago.”

“Well, Mum mentioned something one day about testing every spirit. I can't just believe everything I hear.” She said with a serious tone.

“There goes Sapphire the good listener.” He laughed lightly.

“You know my name?” She stopped suddenly.

“Well to the reason for this visit. I have a gift for you.” He said with a face that made it difficult for Sapphire to figure out his mood.

“Wow, thank you.” She said as she stared at his hands to see something shining.

“I didn’t see that all this while.” She thought.

“But I’m not going to give you now.” He said to her surprise as He walked past her.

“But why Sir?” She asked walking after him quickly; not too pleased to hear he wasn't giving her the gift.

He kept silent for sometime as they walked on.

“You aren’t fit to own the gift yet. You are presently like a man who lived many years ago.” He finally answered as her little mind tried to process his words.

“Okay. I don’t really understand but if I know the name of the man I could ask around about him.”

“No.” he said suddenly making her stop abruptly.

“Only your parents can know about this visit. They have some information about the man that will help.” He added quickly.

“Okay Sir.”

“Cornelius! That’s his name.” he said as he started to walk off.

“Cornelius?” she said as she started walking after him but he seemed to be becoming more faster with each step as the distance between them increased rapidly.

“And the gift?” she asked when she realized he was moving so fast and she definitely wouldn't be able to do keep up with him.

“You’ll get it as soon as you do the right thing. Don’t forget to find out about Cornelius.” He said not shouting but she seemed to hear him clearly despite the wide distance between them.

“Go back home.” He commanded as she turned thoughtfully.

“Cornelius! Cornelius!" She muttered as she walked off.

Megan dropped the Christian Women magazine she was reading as she looked up at the wall clock.

It was 6:00pm. It was high time her daughter woke up from her siesta to do her homeworks.

She stood up from the sofa swiftly and went towards Sapphire’s room.

She opened the door to her daughter's room, entered and closed it back softly.

She was still fast asleep.

Megan moved closer to her.

“Sapphire. You need to do your homework." She said tapping her to wake her.

The Story doesn't end here....

Episode 2

“Happy birthday to you;
Happy birthday to you;
Happy birthday Sapphire;
Happy birthday to you.”

The Andersons sang for their daughter immediately after the family devotion on the morning of September 11th.

“Thank you Mum and Dad. I really appreciate it.” She said bowing slightly.

“I can’t believe my princess is 8 years old just like that.” John Anderson said, holding his hands up in a form of an imaginary spectacle.

Sapphire laughed loudly, clutching her tummy as she did.

“Well, baby girl.” Her mother Megan started as she stood up to bring out a wrapped parcel from behind the sofa.

“Mum! Why is this so big?” She said making towards her mother.

“We know it’s small.” Her Father said with a wide smile on his face.

“Daddy, I don’t even know what is in there yet.”

“This is from both of us. Happy Birthday, Sapphire.” Megan said as she handed the big parcel to her and pulled her in for a brief hug.

“Thank you so much Mummy. Thank you Dad.”

“Can I open it now?” She asked excited.

“Well…” her Mum started as she looked at her father.

“Open it and tell us what you think about it.” John pointed towards the gift.

He and Megan watched as their daughter struggled with the gift. She tore at the material used to wrap it.

“Mum, this is heavy.”

“And why does this shape look strange? Hmm!”

She tore the wrapper and…

“Mum…It’s a Violin! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you” She screamed excitedly.

“How did you come up with this?” she asked dashing her eyelids at her father.

“Your Mother just didn’t stop talking about how she thought you would really love to play a violin.” He said shoving his shoulder up a bit.

“I notice the way you look at the Violinists in Church and I have realized that you have a special love for Don Moen’s songs because he is a Violinist.” Her mother added smiling.

“Mum! I love you.” She said rushing over to hug her.

“And me?” Her father asked feigning jealousy.

“I love you too Dad and Thanks.”

“You are God’s precious gift to us, Sweetheart. Don’t ever forget we love you.” Her mother said patting her back slightly.

“I won’t Mum.” She said looking up at her.

A thought crossed her mind. She smiled.

“And why that smile?” Her mum asked looking at her carefully.

“Well…” she laughed. “I just wondered if God could give me a gift too?”

John smiled at his daughter’s words.

“Well, I know he does things for me but maybe he could also give me something for my birthday.” She said with sincerity in her voice.

Megan laughed.

“You could ask him because God is faithful and he loves sincere people.”

“Okay. I will give it a try.”

“And let us know whatever happens.” John said.

“Okay.” Sapphire responded.

“Let us pray?” John said as Sapphire knelt down in front of them and he prayed for his daughter’s new age.

As they prayed, the 8 year old girl began to imagine how it would feel like to receive a birthday gift from God.

She just couldn’t wait to discover that.

Still Episode 1.

She was a good listener.

"So Daddy, did Jesus save Peter?"

"Yes! Jesus stretched his hand and caught him. But Jesus corrected him that he was beginning to doubt him. His trust in God wavered at that point."

"Wavered?" she said.

"OK, I mean his trust in God was not strong at that time."

"Daddy, you like Big English. Mummy use small English."
She said laughing.

"That is why she is Mummy and I am Daddy. Okay, so what did you learn?"

"I should trust Jesus. Jesus cannot lie like Peter said he did not know Jesus. If Jesus knows me, he will say he knows me and he will help me."

"That's my princess, clap for yourself." he said as she clapped her hands.

"Sapphire, come and give me a hand." I called out as I cleaned some dishes to give her.

"Take this to the Dining Table."
I said as soon as she arrived and handed her some empty plates.

She walked off singing.

"Be careful!" I shouted after her as my husband entered the Kitchen.

"Darling, I'm famished."

"I'm sorry. I just have to dish the meal."

"Well-done." he said as he looked around the kitchen.

"Thank you." I replied smiling.

"Are we needing this?" he asked pointing to a covered dish on the Kitchen Table.

"Yes please." I replied as he carried it and walked towards the dining room.

In minutes the meal was served and we all settled down to eat.

"Daddy... Let me pray."

"Okay Sapphire.. Remember I'm hungry so go straight to the point." My husband said.

"You can talk to God about your friends later, OK." he added quickly.

"Hmm. OK." she replied as we closed our eyes.

"In Jesus name, thank you Jesus for bringing Daddy back safely. Thank you for this food. Bless this food for us in Jesus name. Daddy said I should not pray for my friends now but Jesus you know that Bimpe may not have food to eat at home because her Mommy is sick and she told me her Daddy said there is no money. Please provide food for Bimpe too. In Jesus name we have prayed."

"Amen." we replied.

"Daddy, sorry. I had to pray for Bimpe."

"Sapphire, it's alright. You just made God happy you know."

"Really?" she asked blushing.

"Yes dear. Now eat your food." he replied as I looked at father and daughter.

"Thanks sweetheart." he said with a broad smile on his face.

"You are welcome." I said as I started eating.

"Not for the food. I mean I'm thankful for the meal but I'm saying thank you for our daughter." he said as he held my hand.

I blushed!

"Well..." I replied looking at Sapphire as she ate her food.

"Those moments of your labour was not in vain. Yeah, I know we still have a lot to do for her but the seed of the Word has been planted in her and I pray nothing will take the love of God from her heart in Jesus name."

"Amen. The Lord has been faithful. It has been worth it actually."

"Yes." he replied as he started his meal.

"Daddy, I want to go for the Children outreach in the Church but Mrs Anabelle said I'm too little and that I will be crying. Please help me tell her I will not cry. I want to listen to Pastor "Kumsuyi"."

We laughed.

"His name is not Pastor Kumsuyi but Pastor Kumuyi." her father corrected.

"Okay but tell her. You hear? "

"I will but don't you use to sleep when Pastor is preaching?" I asked.

"Pastor use big English like Daddy." she stopped then shook her head. "No, more than Daddy; so I fall asleep later but I love how he do open the Bible and preach.

"Mummy use to write very well when he is preaching. I want to be preaching too when I am big like you." She smiled.

"But Mummy, you said Samuel preach when he was small. Daddy, I want to preach. You hear? I want to preach. "

"Sapphire, don't worry. You will be an instrument in God's hands in Jesus name." Her father replied.

"Amen. But Daddy what is instrument?"

"Sweetheart, you'll understand OK." he laughed.

"OK Daddy."

I smiled at my husband.

Yes! Children are the Heritage of the Lord but begin to sow the seed of the Word in them at a tender age before it is too late.

Episode 1 Continued.

She didn't mind not playing with other kids as long as she had her Picture Bible with her.

"Mummy." She called jolting me back to the present.

"Yes dear." I said looking back at her.

"It's boring."

"It's boring?"

"Hmm!" she said as she shook her head.

"Sapphire, are you saying the Bible is boring?" I looked at her questionably.

"No mummy but it is not boring if you tell me."

"OK. I understand. Which one should I narrate to you?"

"This one." she said as she stood up to show me the page that had caught her interest.

"OK. That's the story of Peter."

"I know Peter." she said looking at me.

"Really?"

"The one that said he did not know Jesus." she said confidently.

"Are you sure?" I asked as I squinted my eyes at her.

"Yes! He even said it three times. Mummy, you told me the story now." she said looking at me as if trying to figure out why I was acting like that.

"Sapphire, clap for yourself."
I said as she jammed her hands together.

"Mummy, Jesus is happy." she said in a whisper.

"Hmm, How do you know that?"
I asked surprised.

"Because I did not forget the Bible Story. I know Jesus is happy."

"Oh! That's great." I replied laughing as I quickly moved to check what I was cooking.

"Sapphire, sit down. Let me check what I'm cooking."

"Okay Ma." she replied with a wide smile as she returned to her previous position.

"Thank you Lord for Sapphire." I said silently.

"OK. So it happened that after Jesus fed the people with five loaves of bread and two fishes he told the disciples to be going so that he would send the people away."

"After that, he went to pray for sometime. When he was done, he walked upon the sea towards the disciples because the wind was blowing."

"But the disciples thought he was a spirit. They were so afraid. So Jesus told them not to be afraid that he was the one."

I stopped as I looked back at Sapphire.

All her attention was fixed on me.

"Sapphire, why do you think Jesus was able to walk on a large amount of water like that?"

"Momma, Jesus is powerful now. He made the water so he knows the water will obey him." She said as she smiled.

"Good girl. So as I was saying, Peter then told Jesus to tell him to come; Jesus granted him his request and told him to come. So he came out of the big boat and was walking to Jesus."

"Ha! Mummy, Peter will drown in the water now, the water may not obey him." She said with pity looking at the picture before her slightly.

I smiled.

"No, he didn't because Jesus was the one that told him to come."

She looked back at me excited.

"Okay, he knows that Jesus will not let him drown?"

She asked dashing her eyelids at me.

"Yes... But as Peter was going he looked at the wind, he was now afraid and he began to sink. He began to enter the water."

"Momma, what did Jesus now do?" She stared at me eager for an answer.

"Well, Peter knew he was in trouble and he cried "Jesus, save me."

"Did Jesus answer?"

"Jesus ..." I began when;

Knock! Knock!

"Well, looks like Daddy is back." I said to her as I left the kitchen.

"I'm Coming." I called out as I walked towards the sitting room.

She trotted after me happily.

"Welcome sweetheart." I said as I opened the door for my husband.

"Oh, Good evening darling. How was your day?" he replied as he drew me in for a hug and a brief peck. Behind me Sapphire struggled to reach him.

"Daddy, me too." she shouted out as I collected his suitcase and moved away to let the two of them catch up.

"My princess, how are you?"

"Fine. Daddy, how are you ?"

"I'm fine but I'm terribly hungry." he said as he sat down on the Sofa with Sapphire in his arms.

"Let me get back to the kitchen. Sapphire had my attention for sometime today but your meal should be ready in some minutes." I said quickly as I hurried back to the kitchen.

"Momma, what happened to Peter?" she called after me.

"Ask Daddy." I shouted back.

"What's that?" I heard him ask her as she did her own summary of what I had told her.

I smiled!

Episode 1

"Mummy, mummy."

My four year old daughter called out from her play room as I heard the sound of her little feet pad the passage towards the kitchen.

I couldn't come up with why she would call me but I knew one thing for sure, she had once again gotten tired of her video songs.

I dropped the plate I was washing and rinsed my hands.

I moved quickly to the gas cooker to check the food I was boiling.

"Victory, victory hallelujah..." she sang as she entered the kitchen.

"Mummy. Mummy. " she called again as she patted my leg to get my attention.

"Yes, baby. What is it?"
I covered the pot in front of me before staring down at her.

"Bible Story!" she said as she held up her small picture Bible up at me.

"I knew it!" I said under my breath.

"Sapphire, listen to me." I said as her little eyes peered at me with rapt attention.

"Daddy will be back from work anytime soon and I still have a long way to go with Lunch. So could you just read it on your own today? Please!"

I said as I pulled out a small stool and assisted her to sit on it.

"Mummy, Aunty said I'm reading rubbish."

"Just keep opening it. OK."
I said as she nodded and focused back on the Bible.

I hasted back to the sink to continue washing the dishes.

I looked back at her as she opened each pages and stared at the pictures thoughtfully.

I smiled.

My little girl was a bundle of Wonder.

Years earlier when I had discovered I was expecting, I started speaking to the young life in my womb like I would to a little child.

As the life in my womb turned two months, I would pray for her and declare great things into her life.

At five months, I would sit and tell her Bible Stories. I would also teach her songs.

At this point, my husband would watch me in amazement but I knew I was sowing a seed in the life in me.

I wouldn't spend much time but in those minutes the child in me would remain calm 'listening'.

One of the days, I knew it wasn't all in vain was when I was 7 months gone and I was in a lot of discomfort that day. The little one in me was probably so excited or really uncomfortable about something.

I and my husband tried everything but I wasn't comforted in any way.

A song I would always sing then came to my mind and I had not even finished singing the first line when she remain calm.

My husband had looked at me that day and said "Looks like someone has been having a good time with her mother."

A day after she was born and my mom was giving her a warm bath and she started crying, I started singing the song and she paused to listen.

There were days I would be working and singing the song. Sapphire would not take her eyes off me for those moments except she fell asleep. As she grew, she would even mumble words after me in her own way.

I also continued the Bible Story sections with her.

I would tell her stories while breastfeeding her and whenever I had the opportunity to be alone with her. I also made sure to keep tab of each story I had told her making it in such a way that I told her each story at least three times.

I would play songs for her to listen and as young as she was, she began to develop a special interest for Don Moen's songs.

My young daughter grew on with the word of God as a special interest.

At her tender age, she found it uncomfortable to sit still with video songs or games for long as she gets bored so fast and would come running to me for her "Bible Story."

She didn't mind not playing with other kids as long as she had her Picture Bible with her.

His wife stared at him from where she sat knowing things were not turning out fine.

“God help me.” He called out silently.

“I didn’t place you there. You did. You are on your own.” he heard silently.

“But your people?” he said, almost in tears as he looked at the congregation as they struggled to pray.

“They are always on my mind.” was the reply.

And as if on cue, an usher brought him a note from his wife which read:-

“It is better you get off that Pulpit now before it’s too late. Ask Bro Tunde if he was given the message. Let him handle it. I can only conclude that where you are standing was never yours to begin with.”

He looked up at his wife from where he stood. She was right.

He quickly signaled to the Moderator and simply said “Tell Bro Tunde to come and handle the teaching.”

The moderator stared at him as he asked, “what if he isn’t prepared?”

“His unprepared emergency message is far better than my prepared one. Get him here.” He replied as if in pain as he left the pulpit for the midst of the Congregation.

Bro Tunde stared at the happening as the Moderator quickly ran over to explain things to him and to tell him take position on the pulpit.

As he stepped on the pulpit, a hush fell on the congregation. The people became lively once again and it was a refreshing time in God’s presence.

As the report reached the Pastor that night, he smiled and said; “God, you are just unpredictable.”

Few days later, Pastor Bode stood before the Pastor with heads bowed down.

“I am sorry Sir. I was Covetous and determined to have the shoe when the shoe does not fit. I felt like I was been replaced.” He said to the Pastor’s disappointment.

“Replaced? No! That place was never even yours.” The Pastor said as he dismissed him.

As he turned to go, the Pastor called out and said “You know what? I feel like am watching the ACT of KORAH live. Only that you experienced a bit of God’s Mercy.”

Ever since then, the people in the Church most especially the youths would describe Pastor Bode as “the man who wanted Recognition so badly that he failed.”

The End.

REFLECTION CORNER.

Do you remember Korah, Dathan and Abiram?

They rebelled and they were swallowed by the earth. Their wives and children who could have corrected them, probably didn’t and they all suffered for the act together.

What influence do you have on the people around you?

Do you just watch them do things without correcting them when you know their act of rebellion will definitely take it’s toil on you?

Imagine being called “the wife or child of that man who caused problem in the Church sometimes ago”! How would one feel?

Never try to put yourself in a position not for you.

The shoe will be too big for you to fit in, and failure is usually so drastic.

Avoid people who you have noticed always want to oppose a decision in the Church.

Do not provide them support in any way because when God’s wrath takes its toll, you will not be spared.

Learn from the 250 men who supported Korah and ended up getting burnt with fire, they definitely would have thought twice before joining the coup.

Avoid being a Korah.

Avoid the Korahs.

Prayer: - Heavenly Father, may I Never be a Korah in the household of faith in Jesus name. (Amen.)

Stay Blessed...

“Don’t sound too desperate.” his wife’s advice came to his mind. She had noticed his face as they got up to leave the Church.

“Tell the Pastor what you think. Just don’t sound too desperate. It’s high time someone spoke up about this issue. This is a good opening.” She had said.

He smiled. That woman understood him so well.

“Sir,” he started again a bit calmer;

“I feel something as important as this should be handled by someone who has had so many experiences on the Pulpit. This is a Combine Service, and you are not even going to be around to monitor things. Why don’t you give it to someone matured, not someone who is just sometimes lucky to do things right.”

“Well, you mean someone like you?” the Pastor asked.

“Yes... I mean No. Anyone but him will do.” He replied as Bro Tunde stared at him at his words.

“Oh!! Well, I don’t know what I will say about that. But am quite shocked. Hmmm...” he said thoughfully.

“Lord, what do I do?” He asked within him.

Give him the topic, let him go and prepare for it.

“Oh!!!” he muttered silently as he looked at the young and older men in front of him.

“Well, it’s alright. The topic is “A Divine Encounter that transforms lives.” You can take it. Prepare, pray and plan.” the Pastor finally said shocking both men.

Pastor Bode definitely wasn’t expecting that as he stared at the Pastor in surprise. But still…

“Oh! Alright Sir. Thank you Sir. Take care, Bro Tunde.” he said as he rushed out with a smile.

Bro Tunde stared at the Pastor before struggling to say “I’ll be going Sir.”

As he stood up to go, the Pastor said “I don’t really know what to tell you but I’ll get back to you.”

“No problem, its God’s work. He chooses as he wills. Who am I to question him?” he said smiling.

“It’s alright. I will reach you later.”

The next morning found Pastor Bode checking through various versions of the Bible, Dictionaries, Concordances and previous messages of the Pastor.

By the time he was done, it looked to him like it was perfect but somewhere within he knew something was missing. He explained to his wife and she ever the supporting woman she was told him, it was alright.

Metres away, in his office, the Pastor sat preparing for his Ministration at the Conference, when he felt lead to tell Bro Tunde to also prepare for the message.

Bro Tunde dropped the call in awe and amazement. Despite the Questions he really wanted to ask, he quickly got to work. By the time he was done, he himself had experienced something new.

He knew in his Spirit that God was determined to move in the Service.

“But am not the one preaching.” he said almost dejectedly. Then sat up immediately and said “God should just move amongst his people, whosoever is doing the preaching does not really matter.”

“But it might matter to God.” he said shrugging.

The next Sunday morning, members trooped into the Church expectedly because the news had spread that the Pastor had announced Bro Tunde would be preaching. As the Sunday school was going on, Pastor Bode’s children began to tell the youths sitting around them that: Actually, Bro Tunde was not ministering again. It was going to be their Father.

The Service began proper and a note was passed to Bro Tunde from the moderator telling him to come sit on the podium. Pastor’s instruction, it said.

Amidst stares and glares from people around, he gently stood up and moved up to the podium.

It was soon time to listen to the message and the moderator invited Pastor Bode to the pulpit.

Murmurings were heard as he stepped to the Pulpit.

As soon as he stepped to the front, all his built up confidence seem to melt away.

He began to stammer as soon as he began to speak. He led the congregation in prayer in a bid to build up the confidence again. As he struggled, it only became worse.

“Is he the only one in the Church?”

“What is so special about him?”

“What can he do that we cannot do too?”

Those were the words murmured from a corner in the Congregation as soon as the Pastor David finished Announcing that Brother Tunde was going to be the one to preach at the next special combine Service since he the General Overseer was going for a Conference outside the Country.

Most of the Congregation seemed to accept it with gladness as many people were witness to the fact that God had greatly using the Brother. Yet, some had this look on their face that said they weren’t in support of what was just announced.

Pastor David looked at the workers with a smile as he continued; “He might be a young and newly appointed Pastor but you all will testify to the fact that God has been using him greatly. I know the Service will be great. So let’s all trust God to take Control. Shall we share the Grace in Unison?” He asked as the meeting was rounded up.

Pastor David watched the workers silently as they dispersed.

Pastor Bode, one of the older branch Pastors was still sitting down with a look on his face that said the announcement didn’t go down well with him.

The Pastor shook his head as he thought. “Always struggling to get a role when the role should get him. Always wanting to do what he is not capable of doing. His ministry is lying dormant, but he desires another when it’s not even the right time.”

His gaze shifted to Bro Tunde who came towards him, confusion carved on his face.

“Sir, about what you announced?” he began slowly; “do you think I can do it?”

“I don’t think you can.” he replied as Bro Tunde looked at him in shock.

“But... Why?” Bro Tunde asked stammering.

“I don’t think so, I know so. I didn’t give you that assignment; God did. I say he chooses as he wills.” The Pastor said looking at the young man who seemed not so sure of himself.

“You’ll understand later Bro; let’s go to my office. You should get the Topic I was lead to give you to work upon.” He said as he led him out of the auditorium.

“Sir, it’s not a prepared outline?” the young man asked in surprise.

“No, you’re preparing it yourself. Follow me.” He said bluntly.

Tunde followed the Pastor silently as they went to his Office, a lot was on his mind.

So many things had happened so fast for the past few months, he had always been the one leading special prayers, even seminars.

The opportunity to handle one thing or the other seem to only be for him. Yes, God had told him he was an instrument but he didn’t realize how fast things was going until now. God was not wasting time at all.

“Please help me, I can’t do this on my own. You chose me. Take control Lord.” he prayed silently.

The Pastor’s Secretary stood up to greet them as they entered.

“Pastor Bode was here few minutes ago; I think he’ll be back to see you any moment from now.” she said as they moved towards the office.

“Hmm... Alright. Show him in when he comes.” the Pastor replied without looking back.

Bro Tunde followed silently behind him. Sooner had they entered the office, did the door opened and in came Pastor Bode. He greeted the Pastor as he looked at Bro Tunde with disgust.

“Oh! Pastor Bode, I heard you wanted to see me.” the Pastor said looking at him slightly as if to read his thoughts.

“Sir, I...” he began.

Now let's discuss relationships...

Thanks for journeying with me through the lines of this Story.

Like Lucy, there are some unpleasant situations that may want to push us to make wrong decisions; there are times when our decision to please God or displease him will be tested.

The fact remains that it was the relationship she got into that got her life muddled up.

She sought solace in the wrong place and was caught up in something deeper she didn’t expected.

She took the wrong route of relationship and it affected every other area of her life. Regrets and Tears were hers at the end.

Sorrow, Dilemma, Confusion and lots more await those who think they are wise enough to decide who they want to be involved in a relationship with and how they want it done.

Many young adults feel its better they begin to date someone now so that by the time they get married they would have known the person well.

Who knows each of us better than The Creator of Heaven and Earth?

If he knows us, why then don’t we involve him in our emotional, relationship and marital life?
He will step in only if you involve him.

Therefore, start by deciding to let him have his way and lead you the right way.

In the decision on who to spend the rest of your life with, let God have a say!

Shalom!

How many times have you rejected the Saviour’s Love over and over again?

Don’t wait until things be the way it was for Lucy before you surrender your life to Christ.

The time of your Salvation is now!

If you are willing to surrender your life to Christ. Please say this prayer:-

Lord Jesus, I recognize that my way of life does not please you. Have Mercy upon me Oh Lord. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me of all my iniquities. Write my name in the book of life. Grant unto me the grace to live in accordance to your will. Thank you Jesus because I am yours. For in Jesus name I have prayed. (Amen.)

Episode 8 Continued...

“Please try his number?” Lucy’s Father told his wife.

“His number is not reachable. Hope It’s not that this man has bolted?”

“Ha!! Ha!” Lucy’s father exclaimed.

“I think the bill the nurse gave him must have scared him.” She said to her husband.

“She ri aye Lucy bayii? (Do you see Lucy’s life now?) And I warned her, I did?” Her mother lamented tearfully.

The doctor who took Davina to surgery walked in at that moment.

“How far, Doctor?” Lucy’s Father asked after his granddaughter whom he had never even set eyes on.

“I’m sorry Sir. We lost her.”

“Jesus Christ!” Mrs Aderounmu shouted as her husband held her.

“Kai!” Her husband said as he consoled his wife.

He looked up at that moment to see the doctor in charge of Lucy’s case coming over to where they were sitting.

“Oko mi! (My husband!) Hope we are not in for trouble today?” She said as she shook her body vehemently.

“God forbid in Jesus name. Calm down.”

“Please I need to tell you something.” The doctor started.

They listened as he told them to prepare for the worst as regards Lucy and the baby in her womb as she was already bleeding. The Doctor also explained about the Rhesus factor Incompatibility and how it may affect the fetus.

“Save my daughter please.” Her mother pleaded.

“Save the baby. What’s the essence of living anyway?” Lucy shouted out to the Doctor as soon as he told her what was happening in the little way he could.

Lucy went into serious bleeding as the doctors battled to save her and the baby's lives.

Her blood soon mixed with the baby’s blood causing a type of anemia in the baby destroying its red blood cell.

The baby couldn’t get enough oxygen and was finally delivered dead.

The doctor shook his head pitifully.

“I’m sorry but the truth is you might not able to have a successful conception again.”

Lucy wept uncontrollably at the news though in pains.

She lost her daughter and unborn child the same day.

Her husband too had bolted.

There was no hope of Motherhood for her again.

Regret was all she had as she remembered how it all started in the University with Mark.

“If only I hadn’t met Mark; if only I had stayed with Cecil then; if only I had listened to my parents. If Only I hadn’t thought I couldn’t live without Mark."

"I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t get into the wrong relationship. I did it my own way. My career is over. My life is finished.” She cried out in pains.

“If only you hadn’t rejected Christ over and over again? If only you hadn’t decided to have it your own way?” her father added in sorrow causing her to weep the more.

“But my child, there is hope. I agree you’ve lost so much but there is hope. Lucy, you are alive so there is hope. Will you give your life to Christ?” Her mother asked amidst tears.

“There is no benefit I have for Christ again? I have already blown the second chance God gave me?” She shook her head sorrowfully.

“No, Lucy. Don’t believe the devil’s lies; Jesus still loves you. Yes, he is unhappy things are like this but he doesn’t mind giving you another chance. He wants to make your life beautiful.”

“Mummy, Lead me to the Cross. I’m tired of living like this.”

“Thank you Jesus!” her father exclaimed as her mother pulled her into a hug.

“Lucy, Say after me…”

“Lord Jesus, I’m sorry for how I have ignored you all this while. I’m sorry for living my life my own way. I’m sorry for even choosing a life partner in my own way. I come to you for mercy. Jesus, have mercy upon me. Wash me with your blood. Write my name in the book of life. Make me a new man and help me to live my life as you want me to. Heal my wounds Oh Lord. And give me the grace to live in newness of live. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Father for I am yours. For in Jesus name I have prayed. Amen.”

Episode 8 (Final Episode.)

“Ko soun to le ti ki ro; Igbeyin a daara moro ye o.” (There is nothing that proves difficult that doesn’t become better; it’s the end that matters.) Lucy sang as she prepared Amala (made from Cassava flour) one afternoon.

Her protruded belly shook vehemently as she stirred the mixture in the pot.

It was already two weeks to her date of delivery and as the day drew near fear seemed to take over her.

“Where is this girl?” She asked suddenly as she stood up from where she was preparing the meal.

“Davina!” She shouted round the house as she set to check her neighbor, Mama Rita’s house.

She was about stepping out of the house when Mama Rita rushed in.

“Mummy Davina! This is where you are?”

“What is happening?” She asked confused.

“It’s your daughter.”

“My daughter?” She shouted in panic as she ran after the woman towards the main road.

Laying on the road in her pool of blood on the floor laid her daughter.

“She said she was going to where her father plays Ayo game (local ludo) with his friends so she wanted to cross the road when a Vehicle….” The woman was recounting but Lucy had heard enough.

She shouted out in pain as her water broke.

“Ha! Let’s carry her to the hospital.” Her neighbor said as two men moved to assist her inside a parked vehicle.

“My daughter?” Lucy muttered silently as tears rolled down her eyes.

“The girl is still breathing!” Someone shouted as they moved to rush the girl also to the hospital.

“Iyabo! Go and call Daddy Davina!” An old man ordered as a young lady ran off to do as she was told.

The car that assisted Lucy and her daughter soon arrived the hospital and both mother and daughter were wheeled in.

“Take the mother to the labor room. I’m taking the girl in for surgery immediately.” A doctor told his fellow doctor before he ran after the attendants wheeling Davina on in front of him.

“My husband?” Lucy asked Mama Rita who was assisting the nurses to the labor room.

“He’s not here yet. I don’t know what is delaying him.”
Lucy sighed as she thought of her last resort.

“Please call my parents. I saved my mother’s number with 'Iya ni wura'.” She said as the woman shook her head in understanding and excused herself.

It wasn’t long before her parents arrived at the hospital and they didn’t waste time as they started praying for God’s mercy upon their daughter’s life.

“What is happening Ma?” Mark asked his mother-in-law as soon as he got in.

“Something that is not beyond God!" Mr Aderounmu replied sharply as he made himself more comfortable on his seat.

Mark quickly went to the nurses and he was soon filled in on all that had happened.

“Can I see the hospital bill?” He asked the nurse who attended to him.

“We haven’t done the estimate since they are yet to be taken care of fully but you can have this for now sir.”

Mark stared at the bill of 67,000 naira given to him. He looked round the hospital swiftly and back at the bill.

Where would he get the money to pay the bill? The nurse even said that was not the estimate. He would have to let Lucy’s parent handle it.

“I’m coming.” He said to the nurse as he hurriedly left the hospital.

“Young man! Where are you going?” Lucy’s father called after him.

“He said he is coming.” The nurse replied as the older couple shook their head in understanding.

Mark never returned for the next fifteen minutes.

Concluding part of Episode 7

Lucy soon got pregnant again when Davina was Two years old and the fetus was again Rh+.
She decided to remind Mark about what the doctor explained to them;

“There is no money for any medication.” Mark shouted at her as soon as she had explained to him.

“Mark! My life is at risk here. Can’t you look for the money somehow?”

“Woman! Leave me alone!” He shouted causing her to jump.

“Ha! My life is ruined! How did I end up with this man?” She asked in tears as she sat on a chair with a thud.

Mark hissed and left the house angrily.

Lucy shook her head in regret as she remembered the doctor’s warning.

She and the baby were in danger.

Episode 7 Continued.

The duo soon finished their service year and Lucy decided to go for her Postgraduate Studies in Aeronautic engineering as she initially planned however Mark proposed marriage promising her she would continue later.

She agreed.

Her parents were informed of the marriage plan but pleaded with their daughter to reconsider her decision.

“God has better plans for you, my daughter. This life you have chosen for yourself is not right.” her mother said to her.

“I have given a lot into this relationship that I can’t afford to lose him.” She told her parents.

Since her parent’s denomination would not subscribe to their type of union, Lucy and Mark finally had their wedding at a Registry.

For several months after their marriage, Lucy never conceived so the duo went through various tests and examinations.

It was during one of the normal check-up tests that it was discovered that the two were of the same genotype AS and they could end up giving birth to children with sickle cell disease.

“Have we ever talked about our genotypes before?” Lucy asked Mark in dismay as soon as they got back home.

“No. This has never crossed my mind before. We were so much in a hurry that we forgot to talk about a lot of things.”

Lucy eventually became pregnant and they accepted the fact that there could be risks. Throughout all these periods Lucy never contacted her parents or any member of her family.

She went for one of her pre-natal appointments with her husband one day when the doctor discovered the fetus in her womb was Rh+ like Mark even though she was Rh- causing Rh Incompatibility.

“Can you explain the repercussions Doctor?” Mark asked as Lucy listened.

“If the blood of the fetus gets into her blood during birth or labor, her body will understand it’s not her blood and make anti-Rh antibodies that cross the placenta and try to destroy the baby’s blood. It causes serious health problem, the fetus may die and future conception might be difficult.” The doctor explained to their amazement.

“But since this is her first with an Rh+ pregnancy, her body might not have a chance to develop a lot of antibodies. But if the preventive treatment is not given during the pregnancy and she later gets pregnant again with an Rh+, then the baby and future fetus will be put at risk.” he further explained as they listened.

Lucy and Mark remembered the fact that the pregnancy was her third one unlike what the Doctor knew.

“If a pregnancy was not carried to term, like on two occasions, can my body still develop antibodies?” she asked.

“Yes, it’s possible if the fetus are Rh+. Even those with Miscarriages are usually treated and immunized because of the future child. A Medication called Rh immunoglobulin (Rhlg) will be given to the woman when the pregnancy is 28 weeks and 72 hours after birth.”

Panic set in Lucy and Mark as they didn’t even know the Rhesus factor of the fetus.

They understood she had to take the medication whether they liked it or not; however the price of the medication left their mouth hanging as they left the hospital dejectedly.

There was no money coming in for them as Mark wasn’t being offered well-paid Contracts and he had insisted she be a full housewife till she had her Master's degree. Lucy regretted agreeing to that as she gradually concluded there was no hope of that again.

“Should I contact my parents for help?” She thought.

“No. They warned me against this marriage. I can’t go to them. This pregnancy will have to grow that way.” She concluded.

Lucy gave birth to her first daughter Davina who was a sickle cellar and due to that, complications set in. Davina was always falling sick and their financial life was not becoming any better.

The couple soon started getting frustrated and angry with each other and soon Mark started drinking and staying away from home.

“Why is life so unbearable like this?” Lucy would always ask herself as tears and regret became her daily bread.

The Story still continues....

Episode 7

Lucy's mother paced the sitting room as she dialed her daughter’s number again.

Someone answered on the second ring;

“Lucy! Ki lo sele?” (What is wrong?)

“Good Afternoon Ma.” A male voice responded.

She frowned.

“Hmm! Please can I speak to my daughter? It’s important.”

“Alright Ma. I will give it to her but she is just recovering.”

“Was she sick?” She asked not too surprised.

“Yes Ma. She was just discharged yesterday.”

“Ha! Sha gbe phone fun!” (Just give her the phone.) She insisted as she heard the phone being passed at the other end.

“Maami!”

“Thank you Jesus! Lucy, how are you doing?”

“I’m doing well.”

“Hmm! Lucy, jewo fun mi, Ki losele?” (Confess to me, what happened?) She pleaded.

“Don’t bother yourself. I’m now okay.” She replied as she whimpered in pain.

“Lucy! You’re in pains! You are telling me you are okay. It’s alright. I just want to remind you not to waste the second opportunity God gave you.”

“Mummy, wait ooo! What’s going on? Did Mark tell you anything?” Lucy asked astonished.

“Not at all. Lucy, you should know that God spared you so you can give your life to him. Don’t waste this opportunity. I don’t know the details of what happened but I know what I saw and what the Lord told me and I know that I prayed that God have Mercy on you. I’m sure you know what you also experienced over there throughout all those period. Don’t let God spew you out. That is what I want to tell you.”

“Alright Ma. I will think about it.”
Mrs Beatrice couldn’t believe her ears.

“Lucy! You will think about the matter of your soul?”

“It’s alright. I know I have done my part. I will continue to remember you in my prayers but please I beg you in God’s name separate yourself from that Mark or what is his name. As long as you are with him things may not go well for you.”

“Haba! Mummy, are you cursing me?”

“Hmm! Lucy! A friend of the world is an enemy of God. You aren’t in the good book of God at all. I have said my own. Leave his hostel for him, I beg you.”

“I have heard you Ma.” She said yawning.

“I have said my own. It is well with you.”

“Amen.” She replied as she ended the call.

Mrs Aderounmu shook her head as she prayed her daughter would consider all what she told her.

Lucy thought about all her mother had told her. Events of when she was terribly ill flooded her mind.

Giving her life to Christ was not the problem but would she now let that separate her and Mark?

Would everything they had been through together now be in vain?

She couldn’t bare being separated from Mark after she just aborted a baby for him.

What if she got married to another man and she didn’t conceive? It is better to face whatever consequences lie ahead together with Mark.

“They would fight it through.” she decided as she put all that happened behind her.

Few days after that her parents sent her some amounts of money to get an accommodation for herself. They pleaded with her to quit living with Mark.

She told her parents she would work towards it but the duo spent the money on other needs promising themselves they would eventually get married to each other. Lucy and Mark lived a couple’s life till they finally graduated.

The posting for their one year compulsory National Service year eventually took place and they were deployed to different States. Lucy feared because of the relationship so she redeployed to the State Mark was posted to. Even though their Place of Primary Assignment was at different locations they made sure they travelled to see each other often and even spent weekends together.

Eventually Lucy became pregnant again and without much consideration she aborted it.

“Anything that will make him get angry and cause our relationship to end will not even happen at all.” She re-assured herself as she realized how much she had lost because of her relationship with Mark.

Lucy stared at the net underneath her feet.

It could give way anytime she could tell.

She wondered how she had gotten herself into such a big and terrifying pit.

She looked at the net again.

She knew if the net should tear she was done for.

She lifted her eyes to the top of the pit.

“Somebody help!” She screamed at the top of her voice.

“Anyone there?”

“Help!”

“Please, don’t let me die in here.”

She hoped someone will hear.

“Mercy Lord! Mercy Lord!” She heard as a voice cried around her.

She looked around her as she confirmed that she was alone in the pit yet she knew that voice.

Her Mum!

“Mum! Help!” She shouted hoping her mother would help bring her out rather than just crying for Mercy.

“Only Mercy can help! Have Mercy Lord!” Her mother’s voice boomed round her again.

Lucy waited in the pit for the next 20 minutes awaiting her fate.

She looked at the net.

It had become so weak that there was a large hole in it already.

“Ha! Mercy Lord!” She didn’t know when she voiced out..

If that was what would save her she would cry as much as possible.

Faah!!!!

The net tore suddenly as Lucy screamed. The net gave way as she fell off the net.

She noticed a small part was still attached to the wall of the pit so she quickly held unto the remnant as the small net became weaker and weaker.

She stared below her into the pit.

It was so dark.

The moment the net cut loose totally she would be spinning down the pit.

“Lord, have Mercy!” She screamed with the last ounce of strength in her.

“Grab unto the Rope!” A man’s voice shouted to her from the top.

“What Rope?” She asked as she saw a rope dangling in front of her.

She caught it and held unto it quickly.

“Release that net you are holding unto.” The voice said as she carefully let go.

“Climb up swiftly.” He commanded as she began her journey up the pit.

“Who are you?” She asked from below the pit as she climbed.

“I am Mercy, a servant of the Most High God. He chose to send me to you. Judgment was also waiting to see if he would be ordered to work but he chose to send me.”

“Thanks for coming.” She said as she continued climbing.

She wondered why she wasn’t out of the pit already.

Had she really dug a pit this deep?

She had no idea it was that deep.

“You can show you are truly thankful by surrendering your life to your maker because Mercy prevailed over judgment for you today. You might not be so favored another time.” He said.

“I understand. Thank you.” She said as she climbed faster.

As she moved towards the top, a very bright light shone into her eyes causing her to use one hand to shield her eyes quickly.

At RTW Hospital.

A nurse walked round the hospital doing her rounds when she passed a bed thoughtfully.

She ignored the bed at first but took a detour to take a second look at the body sprawled on the bed.

“Oh my God!” She screamed causing a pair of eye to blink at her in surprise.

She ran towards Dr Dayo’s office and opened his door without knocking.

“No Courtesy again, Nurse Sewa?” Dr Dayo asked surprisingly.

“Sorry Sir, It’s…. The lady is awake.”

A curtain separating the doctor’s office and an examination room was pulled back from within.

She turned back startled as a ruffled Mark stared at her.

“What did you say?” He asked before the Doctor could say anything.

“She is awake. Our eyes met." The nurse said smiling.

“Wonderful!” said the Doctor as Mark jumped down from the examination bed he was sleeping on and ran out of the office.
The Doctor and Nurse trod after him happily.

Mark stared at Lucy as she stared at her surroundings.

“This is a miracle!” The Doctor asked as he pointed a flashlight at her eyes to examine her eyes.

“She’s okay. Congratulations Mark. Let’s just monitor her till tomorrow then she can be discharged.”

“Alright. Thank you very much. I’m so grateful.” He replied as the doctor walked away all smiles.

What then would be Lucy's Decision now that she has another chance to live?

Episode 6

“It is written in Ecclesiastes chapter 10:8 that ‘He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge a serpent shall bite him.’ Anybody that has dig a pit for Lucy to fall into, they themselves should begin to fall into it in Jesus name.”

“It is written that every gathering that is not of God shall be scattered. Any gathering of the host of hell as regards my Daughter Lucy; to destroy her life, let them begin to scatter in Jesus name.”

“No enemy of her soul will be able to terminate her life in Jesus name.”

“Beatrice, Listen to me!”

She heard the still small voice speak to her.

She stopped.

“Thank you Holy Spirit. I’m listening.”

“If I may ask, what are you praying about?”

“I’m praying for Lucy. I’m praying against the enemy of her soul.”

“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss. That is in James 4:3.”

“I don’t understand Lord.”

“You are praying the wrong prayer.”

“Ha! Lord… Teach me to pray. I know not how to pray Lord. It is written in Romans 8:26 that ‘likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.’ Lord help me to pray Lord.”

“Daughter, you need to know that your daughter is the one that digged a pit for herself with her own hands. She knew that the steps she was about to take could have repercussions but she didn’t care."

"Beatrice, Plead for Mercy!"

"Daughter, Ask for Mercy!”

“Thank you Holy Spirit.” Mrs Aderounmu said as she repositioned herself.

“Lord You said that you will have mercy upon whom you will have mercy. Father, Have Mercy upon Lucy. Let Mercy prevail over Judgment for her.”

“It is written that ‘shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captives of the just be delivered? For thus says the Lord: Even the Captives of the mighty will be taken away and the prey of the terrible will be delivered; for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will give safety to your children and ease them.’ Father, deliver Lucy from the Pit wherein she has put herself.”

"Oh Lord, remember Mercy."

She pleaded, wept and fought in the place of Prayer.

“Jesus!” Mrs Aderounmu shouted out as soon as she woke up.

She rose up from her bed speedily and jumped on her feet.

Her daughter was in trouble she needed no seer to tell her that again. But what trouble it was she didn’t know.

She had been having the urge for days to speak to Lucy but the young lady was not picking up her calls.

The number was even not reachable thereafter.

She picked up her phone to check if Lucy had called back but there was nothing as such.

“Adura ya!” (Time to Pray!) She said to herself as she hurried to the Sitting Room.

Episode 5

Mark paced the General Outpatient Department (GOPD) thoughtfully.

They had arrived RTW hospital about an hour ago and the doctors were still battling to save Lucy’s life.

He didn’t know what would be his fate if anything happened to Lucy. Everyone knew they stayed together so her noticed absence could raise an alarm in few days.

He had no one to call.

He dared not inform her parents.

“Brrrr!” Something vibrated against his body suddenly causing him to flinch.

He brought out his phone quickly and noticed it wasn’t his that vibrated.

He thrust his right hand inside Lucy’s bag quickly to bring out her phone.

Mark stared at the phone.

Iya ni wura! (Golden Mum)

Her mother was the one calling her.

He waited till the phone rang through and hurriedly placed the phone on airplane mode.

“Mr Mark!” Dr Akin called as he and his friend walked towards Mark with a serious look.

“How is she doing?” He asked as soon as he stood to meet them.

“Well, the bleeding has been controlled but she has lost a lot of blood so blood is been transfused to her presently. However, we have to pray she comes around quickly.” Dr Dayo explained.

“Thank you.” Mark said quickly as he heaved a sigh of relief.

“Hmm! Mark, honestly sometimes some people don’t come around again. Like some just pass on to the other side like that. We hope that doesn’t be like that.”

“Ha! I know she will wake up.” Mark said hopefully.

“She will. She will!” Dr Akin said.

“We’ll see you later. And please do well to settle all bills too.” Dr Dayo said as he turned to go.

“Alright Sir. I will. Thank you.”
Mark sighed as he walked towards the nursing station to ask on how to go about the bills.

****************************

The ground had become muddy,

A certain Footstep laid clear and distinct on the floor.

Mrs Beatrice Aderounmu followed the footsteps silently.

She walked for some minutes as it led her to an open arena.

She wondered where she was and what she was doing there when her eyes caught a tiny image not too far from her.

“She must be the one I’m looking for.” She said happily as she ran towards the image.

As she moved closer, the image became clearer and clearer and the person’s back view looked like a female’s to her.

She paused! The back view looked familiar to her.

She walked on, slowly this time.

The lady bent down to do something.

Whatever she was doing she did so desperately.

Mrs Aderounmu squinted her eyes and saw what the lady was doing.

She was digging a hole.

“This Child should be careful. Why dig a hole on a land like this?” She thought as she moved towards the Lady.

The Lady stopped working as she must have heard her footsteps.

She turned slowly.

The elderly woman froze as she stared at the face in front of her.

She recognized the face but it now looked battered and wounded.

“What are you doing?” Mrs Aderounmu asked as she moved closer to the young lady.

The young lady hissed in return as she turned swiftly.

She leapt into the Hole.

“Lucy!” The woman cried out as she ran towards the hole.

She gazed inside and realized the hole was very big and dark.

She narrowed her gaze to see her clearly.

Then she saw her at what looked like the bottom of the pit.

She looked carefully to see that the Lady stood on an old net that looked very weak and like it would tear open anytime.

“That means the pit is very deep.” She said to none in particular as she looked around for anything to help the lady out.

“Help me. I’m dying.” Lucy shouted out suddenly.

“Mark, honestly I have never experienced this since I started doing evacuation procedures. I was already through with everything when she suddenly started bleeding and became unconscious just like that. The funniest thing is the bleeding is not controllable. There is need for blood to be transfused to her but we don’t have the facilities here. I really don’t know what to expect at this point.”

Mark stared at the Doctor in silence before the doctor added quickly.

“But there is hope. Just keep praying if you can.” He said as he rushed back into the room.

Mark walked back to where he was seated before.

He sat down silently as he bowed his head.

Even if he wanted to ask God for help he didn’t know how.

It wasn’t long before Lucy was wheeled out on a stretcher into an ambulance.

If anyone asked him what he thought would be their fate; he had no idea.

Episode 4

Mark entered the room happily few minutes after he received Lucy’s call.

Lucy was asleep and looking at her face he could tell she had cried herself to sleep.

He felt sorry for the situation and the step they had to take. He realized she might not understand how much this decision meant to him but he wasn’t in any way ready to father a Child.

“Not at all.” he said quietly as he stared at her.

He looked at her tummy.

Who would ever think a life was growing inside her? He wished he didn’t have to make her abort the baby but he had no choice.
******************************

“The doctor will soon attend to you.” A young woman who Lucy guessed was a nurse said to her and Mark for the third time. Mark had brought her to the Clinic to have the procedure done.

She looked round the small reception again. The place looked nothing like a hospital.

She had even asked Mark if he was sure they were in the right place. She wondered how he knew about the clinic though.

She returned her focus to where the nurse sat to catch her staring at her tummy in scorn.

Lucy placed her bag in front of her tummy immediately. That was enough to make the Lady look up and realize she had been caught.

A door opened at that moment as a young man in his thirties walked towards the duo.

“Hello. I’m Akin. My brother explained your case to me.” he said as he shook hands with Mark.

“Thanks so much for agreeing to help us.” Mark said smiling.

“It’s alright. What are brothers for? She can come in now.”

Lucy felt her feet stuck to the spot.

She was scared.

Scared for her life.

Scared for her future.

Should she back out? This was a sin she knew that. She shook her head as an image of her bleeding to death flashed through her mind.

“Lucy?” Mark called.

“Yes!”

She looked quickly at Mark and the Doctor.

“You can go now. I’ll be waiting for you here.” Mark said re-assuredly.

She couldn’t back out now.

She was doing it for her future.

No, for their Future.

She shook her head in agreement as she carried her bag to follow the Doctor.

“You can drop your bag!” Mark said as she stopped to hand it over to him.

Their eyes met.

“I’m scared.” she whispered.

“You’ll be fine. I promise.”

He patted her on the shoulder as she turned to follow the doctor.
******************************

Mark tapped his feet on the floor impatiently.

It was about 40 minutes already but Lucy and the Doctor were still behind the door. He wondered if it usually took that long.

“Excuse me please!” He called as the nurse who had attended to them earlier turned her attention to him.

“Yes?”

“Does it usually take this long? I mean the...”

“Well, not really. It depends on how serious the situation ends up being in that room.” She replied looking towards the room thoughtfully.

He hoped nothing was wrong with her.

“I hope things are going on well in there.” The lady added as she continued whatever it was she was doing.

Silence filled the room for about two minutes until the door to the procedure room opened.

No one came out for few seconds.

Mark stared at the door as he wondered what was happening.
He prayed silently that Lucy would come out and was disappointed when the Doctor rushed out in haste.

He felt blood drain from his face as various thoughts crossed his mind.

“Nike.” the doctor called as soon as he got to where the nurse sat.

“Sir.” She replied standing up swiftly.

“We have a situation. I need you to prepare for a transfer to Dr Dayo’s hospital. Call the Driver to come around and inform RTW Hospital of our coming. Just tell them the patient’s information is confidential and will be shared with the doctor alone.”

“Oh! Alright Sir.” She replied as she picked the phone to start making calls.

“What’s happening?” Mark asked in worry as the Doctor turned to him.

The Concluding part of Episode 3.

Mark was right. The baby is too innocent to be allowed to suffer. They had to get rid of it if they would make a headway in life. She was developing so much affection for the baby she was carrying already.

What would be her fate after the abortion? Would she survive the pain? Won’t she bleed to death? Will she and Mark still continue the relationship?

She kept wondering, holding the pillow close to her chest in tears.

“It is now or never.” She decided as she picked her phone to give Mark the reply he feared she would never give.

How will this decision affect Lucy's Life?

Still Episode 3.

“Let me clean this room and wash the plates.”

“Hmm. I will cook for him too. Anything to make him listen to me.”

She quickly set on putting the room in order. He returned at about 6pm in the evening to meet a well-organized room.

“Wow! Tell me something.”

He exclaimed as Lucy sang softly from the kitchen.

“Ha! This one Lucy is cooking today, hope I’m safe?” He thought as he surveyed the room quietly.

“Dear, welcome.” Lucy called from the kitchen causing Mark to open his mouth in surprise.

“Close your mouth now?” She said as she walked in from the kitchen with a thin smile.

“Something is definitely off. I’m in trouble.”

“What is it? Why are you looking like you’ve seen a ghost?” Lucy asked as he stared at her in surprise.

She had figured he was going to be shocked at her new behavior. As long as he accepted the pregnancy she didn’t care.

“This one is more than seeing a ghost? If it were you wouldn’t you be shocked?” He said as he finally walked towards the kitchen.

“The food is ready. Let me serve you.”

“You will still serve me? Hmm... Hope I am safe?” He asked back in surprise as he returned to sit on his bed.

He watched Lucy’s every move as she served him the meal.

He soon started eating as she stood watching him.

“Mark!” Lucy started as soon as she noticed he was enjoying the meal.

“Yes.”

“There is something I need to tell you.”

Mark stopped.

“I’m listening.” He said as he continued eating.

Lucy stopped for some time to check his face. She couldn’t read his thoughts so she continued.

“I’m pregnant.”

“You said what?” Mark screamed into her face.

“Mark, we’re having a baby!” She replied again.

“Oh no wonder! I have been wondering why there is a welcoming atmosphere in this room.” He said as he looked round the room in wonder.

Both fell silent for some time as Lucy stared at his face.

“How many people have you told?” He finally asked to her relief.

She was relieved he wasn’t denying it or acting like he didn’t know anything about it.

“Nobody yet. Just you and I know about it. And …”

“And who?” He cut in suddenly.

“And God.” She finally replied heavily.

He cleared his throat.

“Lucy, sit down here.”

Lucy could feel his eyes on her as she took her seat beside him.

“Ermm! See.” He started. “I’m not denying this child because I’m aware of the fact that I made you a woman. But Lucy, I don’t think neither you nor I is ready for the responsibility of this child.”

“Hmm… Okay”

“So, we are going to get rid of it.”
Lucy’s body turned cold immediately.

“Get rid of what?”

“Be patient Lucy.”

“Ha! My life is gone.” She shot out suddenly as tears welled down her face.

“Lucy, I’m not asking you to kill yourself here.”

“Really? But you’re asking me to kill a baby. Mark, what is the difference?”

“Answer me now! Murder is Murder!” She shouted into his face as she stepped away from him.
His blood boiled within him.

“Do you think it’s that easy to be a parent to a child? Haven’t you learnt from your parent’s situation? What brought you here in the first place? Is it not because…”

“Please, don’t bring my parents into this issue.”

Her Parents! Who was he to refer to them as such? It isn’t their fault she was in his place, it was hers.

“I’m just saying…” He started

“I get you.” She cut in distaste welling up her throat.

She wondered how she had gotten entangled him.

“I’ll give you some time to think about it just give me a call when you make the decision.”

He said as he stood up and made his way out of the room.

****************************

Lucy lay on her bed. Her pillows already soaked in tears.

She groaned softly as the events of past weeks rummaged through her mind.

How had she gotten herself in this? And her parents warned her about staying with Mark. She should have known. But where would she go from here? Her parents would be disappointed, her life would be shattered.

Episode 3 Continued.

Lucy and Mark had collected their previous semester result that day and Lucy had a very high CGPA: the best in the Faculty.

“We need to celebrate this.” Mark told her as soon as they got back to the hostel and he ordered for food and drinks to celebrate.

They ate, drank, danced and played games together until they were both tired.

“Mark, I need to get to bed. I have a busy day tomorrow.” Lucy said as she stood up to go to her own bed.

“Sleep with me here. The bed is large enough.” he said smiling at her.

“Thank you Sir. I will prefer sleeping on my bed.” she said shaking her head as she walked away.

“What’s the difference now? Don’t we sleep in the same room before?” he said suddenly feigning anger.

“OK. But Mark, you have to promise not to try anything stupid.” She said seriously.

“Whatever! I promise.” he said smiling as he moved for her to lay down.

Whatever promise that was made that night failed as flesh and blood took over.

Lucy wept till daybreak while Mark kept consoling and promising her a future together.

“Mark! You have destroyed my life.” Lucy cried as she sat on the floor.

“No, Lucy it wasn’t planned. We were both part of this remember.”

“Really? It’s okay.” She said angrily as she moved to her bed.

“Aren’t you going to class again?” Mark asked.

She stopped crying.

She looked at him angrily as she hissed.

“It’s alright.” He said as he prepared to leave the room.
She continued crying as Mark took his bath and left the room.

“Ha! Mark has put me in a big mess. And Mum warned me.” Lucy said as soon as Mark stepped out before she finally stood up to prepare for her day.

She decided to stop doing the chores in the room so she left the dishes unwashed and went out.
She went to class moody and came back the same way to meet Mark already in the room.

“You didn’t prepare anything?” Mark asked immediately she entered.

“No, if you are hungry find something to eat. Please just leave me alone.”

She hissed as she removed her sandals and fell on her bed with a thud.

Mark couldn’t take her behavior anymore.

“Lucy. Do you think I’m glad this happened? Why are you taking this like the world happened? At least I didn’t rape you.”

“Mark, see you cannot understand. Just leave me alone. You’re a man so what would you know? And for crying out loud, this is a Sin. Fornication! I might not be a serious Christian but you are not even showing any kind of remorse at all. Just leave me henn! I beg of you.”

She turned her head away from him as he finally sighed and left her alone.

***************************

Thing continued like that in the room with each one minding his or her own business until about two weeks later.

Mark had woken up around 8am to see Lucy still sprawled on her bed. He ignored her until he was set to leave the room around 10am and realized she was till there though now awake but not making any move to get prepared for her lectures.

“Are you okay?” He asked in concern.

She looked at him in surprise.

“Yeah. Have a nice day.”

“Okay.” He said as he left the room.
Lucy stood up weakly to lock the door after him.

“What is wrong with me? Hope it’s not what I think?” Lucy said as soon as she returned to her bed.
She was feeling so weak and feverish.

“I think I will have to visit a pharmacy. Let me even do that now.” She said to herself as she managed to stand up.
********************************
Lucy stared at the pregnancy kit in her hands. She had even bought two just for clarity sake.

She hummed as she followed the procedures.

She waited for few minutes as she watched the two test strips changed colors before her very eyes.

She was pregnant!

“No! This is not happening to me.” She exclaimed as she quickly cleared all the traces of what she had done from the bathroom.

“My life is finished.”

“How will I tell Mark?”

“Who do I turn to for help?”

Various thoughts went through her mind as she planned on how to inform Mark.

Episode 3

“No, I’m serious. Or do you have another idea?” he asked.

Lucy shook her head in disbelief.

Even if she was that desperate she wouldn’t do that. But she couldn’t face Cecil. She hadn’t been in touch with her for long.

“Are you still contemplating or what?” He asked impatiently.

“Mark, this is something I have to think about very well.”

“Alright. I will be inside my room. You can call me if you need my assistance with packing your loads.”

“Alright, thanks.”

He walked past her and entered his room.

“I have pushed all my friends away. I don’t have any choice. I will stay for some days.” she concluded within herself.

“Mark! Give me a hand.” she called out to him.

“Alright. I’m coming.” He answered.

She started packing her things into his room with his assistance. It was a self-contain so she felt things would go fine.

“Mark, please let me put my bed at the other side of the room.” She said as she concluded she wouldn’t feel comfortable sleeping with him on the same bed. She settled in comfortably and life as roommates soon began. She did the cooking and cleaning of the room while he took care of the rent.

Before long, Mark started making sexual advances to her.

“Please, Mark we living together is not an avenue for all this.” She finally said to him one day.

“But Lucy, we were in a relationship before you came here now.”

“I know; but please, I can’t do this. I’m sorry. ”

“It’s alright.” He said as he walked away.

“I can’t do something that will make my Parents to be disappointed in me more than they have already.” She soliloquized as she walked away too.

Everything continued normally and Lucy soon got used to them living together

She decided her parents must not hear about what she was doing and always avoided Cecil. Before long Cecil got wind of what was happening and reported the situation to Lucy’s parents.

“Ki omo yi ma koba mi oo.” (This child should better not put me into trouble.) Her mother said as they ended their conversation with Cecil.

Her Father shook his head in disappointment as her mother tried putting a call through to her.

“Good Afternoon Mama, how are you doing?” Lucy asked as soon she picked up.

“Good Afternoon, please where are you presently?” her mother asked shaking her legs in fury.

“I’m in the hostel now? Hope no problem?”

“Iwo omi yii! (You this Child!) Hostel Okunrin ti di hostel re abi ? (A guy’s hostel has now become your hostel?) Don’t put me in trouble now?”

Lucy fell silent for some time.

“I know what is going on. Cecil just informed us now. This girl please don’t kill us before our time with worries please. I’m begging you.”

“No child can even kill me.” Her Father commented as he left the place angrily.

“Lucy, aren’t you matured enough to know what you are doing is dangerous? Even Cecil that does not have anyone to teach her in the way of the Lord knows what you are doing is wrong.”

“I know what you mean Mama but nothing has happened between us and nothing will happen.” Lucy said from the other end wishing her mother would just end the call.

“Lucy! The day something will happen will you know? Or don’t you get it?”

“Nothing is happening, honestly.” She said again.

“I don’t agree. We will send you the money for rent soon so prepare to get a new apartment for yourself.” Her mother said in Conclusion.

“Alright. No problem Ma.” She replied as she ended the call.

“Hmm! I pray you understand before it’s too late.” Her mother said to none in particular as she joined her husband indoors.

Few weeks after her parents call the unexpected happened.

It was one week to the semester’s exam, when the owner of Cecil’s hostel came to ask for the rent giving a one week ultimatum. She called her parents but they told her there was no money and that she should squat with her cousin if need be. Shame couldn’t make her turn to any friend for help thus she ran to Mark. He promised to render help but nothing was done until Lucy was sent packing on the day the first semester exam was to begin.

She couldn’t go to Cecil so she turned to Mark’s house.

He listened silently as she explained her situation to him.

"So... Mark what do i do now? " she asked.

"I don't know. I don't have any money with me presently." he said bluntly.

"Hmm.. OK but i can't go to Cecil. I have ignored her for a long time."

"I understand you but there is nothing i can do. Except if you will squat in my place for sometimes. I can give you a space." Mark said to her surprise.

Lucy gaped at him.

"I'm sure you are joking." Lucy said laughing.

Will she accept this offer?
