Hello all, i have a question to ask. My passport is going to expire next year and i'm about applying for a US masters program for the upcoming fall semester that runs for over a year. Peradventure i do get admission, what exactly am i supposed to do to get visa? I assume i would have to cancel my current passport and apply for a new one. Don't really know, honestly in the dark here

Since, your passport is expiring next year then you don't have any issue. You can use the current passport data page to process i-20 and of-course you can visit the embassy for your interview for fall if you are going to book your interview. In summary you don't have any issue. Good-luck!

Some of them give legit reasons out of ignorance, cos wetin person no know him no know. I just wan update them in case them still dey here dey give advice...2015 the guy got the admission to study nursing in rural America, visa was approved in May 2015, started prerequisites as soon as him enter, 2018 got ASN registered nurse, 2019 after 1year online BS got BSN, now he's in a DNP program which will last approx 3 years, married and Got his green card approved last month...green application card took 3 months. I dey share this for all the dreamers with legit reasons to migrate to 1st world countries, no let anybody wey dey form I too know ruin your dreams. My story don finish, make una wey be advicers for this forum no dey trample on people dreams because Dem share am for advice, so give advice not shove your opinions down Dem throat. Naija for life, stay true to the hustle guys.

A lot have changed from five years ago. Infact, I am not sure there is something like Assistanships or Administrative processing then.
It is possible to get VISA with CC but it is all about the odds which are very slim. It is better to have admits in good Universities with funding.

pls I want to ask house please help. I was denied Visa last year but I want to retry this year again but to another school. I heard sevis fee is valid for one year. And my sevis fee is still valid because I paid last December. can I still use the sevis fee for another school that I want to retry this year ? so I wont pay another sevis fee this year ? Thanks

Yes, you can but you will have to transfer your SEVIS fee from the previous school to the new school. Visit fmjfee.com to transfer your SEVIS fee. You will need the SEVIS ID of both schools and the school codes. You dn't have to pay another SEVIS fee since it will expire December 2020.

Please house I need your advice. I have a degree in business management but I am about to apply for a related course but under an agricultural department of a university. Please can this affect my chances of being issued a visa? I should have outrightly applied for an MBA program but my GRE test score isn't competitive enough and I'm not disposed to taking the test anytime soon. I have a decent GPA with a good aggregate toefl score. Kindly quote me with your advice please as time is not on my side here.

Are you currently working in an agricultural capacity?

Thanks boss. I have mailed my grad coordinator about TOEFL, waiting for her reply.

How's funding in the school, you've got idea?

Also, ask the GC about funding. Mail faculty members of your program that you have mutual Research and about open positions that you may be considered for. Also, ask the GC about Teaching Assistant positions in your department.

I am thinking of applying to the University also (uni of Missouri) but I just found out they don't accept WES and TOEFL is not automatically waived. How did u went about yours, did u submit TOEFL or it was waived?

They dn't accept WES and TOEFL is not waived for Nigerians. To confirm the information you should shoot an e-mail to the Graduate School.

Location: Lagos Consulate
Date/Time: January 2nd, 2020. 6.45AM

V. O: Good morning. Pass me your i20 and sevis receipt.

Me: Good morning (passes them)

V. O: why are you going to the US?

Me: I am going for my masters in Organisational communication in Bowie State University, Maryland, USA.

V. O: Why Bowie State University?

Me: I chose Bowie state university because it offers each individual student more interaction time with their instructor. Also, my coordinator, Dr. XXXXX area of research aligns with mine as he focuses on how communications affects certain race, gender and communities. I also searched usnews, com and mastersincommunications, com and there, Bowie state university has ratings of 4 out of 5 reviews.

V. O: Why Organisational communication?

Me: I'm very passionate about leadership and interacting with people. This program will enable me acquire skills on groups and organizational communications, issues and crisis management, mediation, conflict management and effective communication. This will enable me work as a human resource personnel in one of the top organizations in Nigeria and also help me be a voice for young women and orphans who have experienced some level of life's difficulties in my home country, Nigeria.

V. O: okay... What school did you get your bachelor's degree from?

Me: University of Ilorin, Nigeria.

V. O: what course did you study?

Me: History and International Studies.

V. O: okay... (starts typing)
(on my I20, it was there that my tuition & fees/expenses will be paid by my family in Maryland, USA) The V. O saw it and asked... Uhm. Family in Maryland, who is this family in Maryland?

Me: My uncle's family.

V.O: Uncle from where?

Me: my maternal uncle, he is my mother's younger brother.

V. O: *types continuously* Where does he live?

Me: I said the address

V. O: continues typing even while I mentioned the address, and then after typing, he brought out the pink slip and was like... Sorry, you are not eligible now. Try again later.

What could have gone wrong? On my I20, there is a Total funding of $23k (out of which tuition & fees, $11.8k) which will be paid for by my uncle. I wasn't even asked to present any document (SOA, sponsorship letter or the likes).

PS: Not mine, but for someone I helped prepare for the interview. cc Twoods, Lagosismyhome

Going to same state as sponsor can be a red-flag! Your responses are okay but you may choose to go to a more ranked school in a different state and transfer to Bowie if you wanna do that in the US.

Hello everyone ....I have been going to the embassy now for 5 times without been issued a visa,so I called a friend that opened my eyes to the mistake made by the agent i used .the school has it on my I20 that am sponsoring myself and on my Ds160 has it that my uncle is doing so .whenever the VOs ask I will tell them my uncle is sponsoring me unknowingly that my i20 has it that am using myself as sponsor .now I don't know what to do if I should change destination or still try it my luck .I also heard the embassy has it that record of reasons for denials that can be viewed by the present VO interviewing you .

This is not a serious issue. Next time try to get funding( tuition waiver or a Graduate Assistanship) and ensure you have a correct i-20 that reflects the sponsor you put on DS-160. Good-luck!

Hello Nairaland. I’m a pretty new member in the house and I have motive to traveling to the USA for my msc

I studied Economics for my undergraduate with a CGPA of 3.48/5.00 (69.6%) and I’m planing to go for my masters in economics. I finished my Nysc 2016 and I haven’t been opportuned to have any working experience.
Gurus in the house I need your advice of the following questions

1)Is there a chance to get a school with full funding or at least part ? As I have searched online for schools that offers scholarships but most schools require 3.5/5.00 CGPA
2) What test do I have to write to process the admission

3) is it possible for me to get the student visa without a sponsor? Note; I’m a hustler I can try to raise some amount of money myself

I’m a newbie on here I will appreciate any advice and any form of help from anyone. Pls feel free to email me at krose00118@gmail.com
Thanks for taking your time to read through. I look forward to hear from you soon

Try to do GRE and TOEFL and you may do a WES(World Evaluation Services) evaluation of your under-graduate Transcripsts. WES will evaluate your GPA to the US standard which is a 4.0 scale.

Do people visit the embassy to be denied?, your visa is issued when the visa is approved smiley smiley.

Nope, you are not getting it. There is a difference between an approved VISA and Issued VISA.

A VO can approve but another person is charged with issuing. When your VISA is approved by VO you are going to be on AP for few days before your status change to issue. You are actually talking about when to visit the embassy. You can visit the embassy and your VISA is approved ahead of time outside of 120days to your program start date but you can only pick your VISA within those 120days.

Now, get one thing clear not all VISA approved by the VO is issued.

Yes, type this on Google search "when can you apply for US student visa".

I don't want to put a link before antispambot bans me

'An F-1 student visa for the USA can be issued up to 120 days in advance of your course of study start date. You will only be able to enter the US with an F-1 visa 30 days before your start date'.

Quoted from Google.

The 120days applies to when your VISA can be issued not when you can visit the embassy for interview.

You can only apply for visa 120days before your resumption. So calculate it. And yes, February is too soon

Good day solihp

I was denied this week at Lagos.

The conversation was going fine until the part that I worked in a bank. Needless to say, I'm going for masters in Engineering with full funding.

Me: I worked at ******* as bleep.

VO: A bank?

Me: Yes

VO: That's a hook ( started typing). I can not approve your visa at this time.....

My concern was that I was not given any paper whatsoever to know why the VO didn't approve it.

I have paid for another interview, I am about to choose a date in Abuja, because it has earlier date. Is it possible to reschedule to Lagos after choosing Abuja?

Do I need to complete another DS 160?

Please which school is that? Did your course align with your course during Bachelor's degree?

Congratulations to the college applicants that I have selected.

Well, it was not an easy task, reviewing almost 100 emails. Am not a perfectionist, but in all fairness, I tried my possible best.
Those selected know themselves and they are solely free to make comments here. Those not selected should not despair as many more chances will come out soon.

Some call it Christmas gift, while I call it service to humanity in all capacity we can find ourselves.
As at this month in 2016, I was still in Naija fight to get admission overseas. But now I hold an MSEE and am close to a potential PhD.
If not for God and the support I got from people like @Walspring @texterem and many selfless individuals, I would not be in the US myself.

So, glory is to God. We will continue to give back to the community for God's love.
Insha Allah, I will pay the application fees for them before December ending or first week of January.
Though you didn't select me because I didnt your requirement. Wax stronger boss!
