Politics / News Release: Justice Ayo Salami’s Suspension Is Unconstitutional, Null And Void by PIPROM(m): 5:34pm On Aug 21, 2011
The Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) condemns in very strong terms the purported suspension of the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami by National Judicial Council(NJC) as unconstitutional, null and void, http://chidioparareports..com/2011/08/news-release-justice-ayo-salamis.html
Politics / How “ghosts” Take N300 Billion Annually From The Nigerian Economy by PIPROM(m): 4:23pm On Aug 15, 2011
Ghosts of numerous non employees like former, deceased, retired and completely fictitious workers populate the government’s payroll. While many of these former workers had long left or never existed, some civil servant and politicians ensure that their ghosts linger on in their former departments. They are promoted; paid salaries and gratuities; sent on courses; and their pensions are remitted to the collaborating pension managers and in the end, they retired and draw pensions. They do all these without existing, http://chidioparareports..com/2011/08/article-how-ghosts-take-n300-billion.html

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) views the shell petroleum sponsored, U.N report on the degradation of the environment of the Niger delta and its inhabitants by the deliberately irresponsible activities of western oil companies as a pathetic attempt  at trivializing the wave of destruction wrought on the ecology of the Niger delta, the lifestyle and dignity of its people by criminal oil companies occupying the Niger delta forcibly for the sole purpose of plundering the resources of its people http://chidioparareports..com/2011/08/news-release-mend-says-shell-sponsored.html
Politics / "no Eulogy From The Clergy" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:14am On Aug 08, 2011
This day is the anniversary,

Another anniversary

Of my arrival on this farm

Where farmers farm,

Harvest

And afterward

Slump into sleep

Starved,

While

Pets in the manor mansion

Feed on pleasant food.

This day is another anniversary

Yet

I see no sirens

To signal this day,

Nor singers to serenade me.

I see no hangers-on

Hurrying to hug me

And hum the hackneyed cant,

“Congratulations”.

I see no cards

With flowers adorned,

I hear no eulogy from the clergy.

Politics / "the Raft Of Refuge" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:39am On Jul 27, 2011
I may drown
In this deluge.
I may drown,
Struggling to swim
With dress drenched,
With legs shackled.
I may drown,
Struggling to swim
To the raft of refuge.
If I drown,
Let the wind
Take me to the world
Where no one is worthier.
Where doves weave nests
With leaves of olive.
Where the sun shines
With shyness of Moon.
The Moon,
The Stars
Smile serene smiles.
If I swim to the raft,
I shall slaughter
Rams on the sacred slab,
I shall answer
The summons of sleep.
I shall sleep awhile
And wake anew
Clothed in swimming costume,
Unshackled.
I shall swim
The deluge again
To rescue the drowning.
I shall swim
The swim of a swimmer
Unshackled.

Politics / "altars Of Alien Deities" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 9:45am On Jul 21, 2011
Like offspring of zealotry,
Nursed
With breasts of bigotry,
They litter
This land with intolerance.
They crawl
Like the serpents
To shrines of native deities
To suck eggs sacrificed,
Sacrifices from natives
To native deities.
They sneak
Into sacred apple gardens,
The night hours
They saturate
With screams of ecstacy.
At noon hours
They holler
Hosanna on altars
Of alien deities.

Politics / "refugees Of Rancour" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:05am On Jul 20, 2011
I see them
With forlorn features,
Forlorn from losses.
I see them,
Men,
Grief-stricken.
Women
With infants famished,
On their backs strapped.
Children
Clutching charred toys.
I see them
Set forth on forced exodus
From home to home.
I watch them
Look back at burnt abodes,
Places of worship burnt.
I watch them
Bath themselves with tears.
I behold,
Exodus
Of refugees of rancour.

Politics / “epitaph” By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 3:23pm On Jul 17, 2011
This epitaph
Will be etched
On the tomb stone of the tomb
Where I will wait to be summoned
To the waiting room of eternity,
Where I will await
Handshake with Chukwu.
“Here dwells a singer,
Who sang
And sang
On the sacred stage.
Here dwells a songster
With costume intact,
Not in tatters.
Here dwells a town crier,
Whose gong,
Whose stick
Survived bidders’ bids,
A bequest
To town criers of tomorrow.”

Congratulations to him

Rich
But made waste.
Congratulations to the bearded one,
Congratulations to Wole Soyinka.
Politics / “we Acquiesce Quickly” By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 9:51am On Jul 13, 2011
We walk the road
To the polluted pools
Again and again.
We swim
In the polluted pools
And sigh
When our bodies
Are covered with scabbies.
Bombs blast!
We buckle
And negotiate with bullies,
We acquiesce quickly.
Haram hangmen are here
Tightening the noose
On the necks of boko adherents.
Like bullies before
They seek our surrender.
After bombs,
We negotiate.
After negotiating,
Beetles burrow into our barn.
Politics / News Report: Nigeria's Ruling Party Factions Feud As New Acting National Chairma by PIPROM(m): 10:22am On Jul 11, 2011
Nigeria's ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) factions are presently feuding over the party's National Chairmanship position which became vacant following the nomination of its immediate past acting Chairman, Dr. Bello Haliru as Minister.

The party's national leadership had in a meeting at the Presidential Villa on Saturday 9th July, 2011, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan mandated the National Secretary, Mr. Kawu Baraje to resume today as acting National Chairman. Baraje is from the North-Central zone where the Senate President, who is also Chairman of the National Assembly comes from. This decision would be ratified at the party's national convention in November.

The zoning of  National Chairmanship position, chidi opara reports learned, have polarized the party into feuding factions. The South-East faction is reportedly the most aggrieved on account of the fact that it regarded the position as reserved for it in this dispensation. The two immediate past substantive National Chairmen are from the zone. Although the zone produced the Deputy Senate President, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Secretary to the Federal Government, the South-East faction have vowed to fight for the position. A group known as PDP Stakeholders' Forum is threatening legal action on behalf of the South-East faction.

Another feuding faction is that of the South-West zone, which missed the Speakership of the House of Representatives zoned to it by the party's national leadership due to "rebellion" in the House. The zone which voted massively for the rival Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN), has no major position yet.

Checks by chidi opara reports revealed that in spite of zoning the National Chairmanship position to the North-East, pockets of factions from the North-West and North-Central zones have eyes on the position.

Politics / News Report: Nigeria's Sports Festival Ends With Allegation Of Medals Racketeeri by PIPROM(m): 9:40am On Jul 11, 2011
The 17th National Sports Festival, also named "Garden City Games 2011" ended yesterday with allegation of monetary inducements of  Games officials by the Rivers State Government, allegedly resulting in the Oil rich host state hauling 135 gold medals to emerge first.

The  yet to be substantiated allegation whose source chidi opara reports was unable to unravel at the time of preparing this report, started on Wednesday, 6th July, 2011 at the Liberation Stadium, venue of the festival.

By Friday morning when it became apparent that Rivers state would emerge first and consequently claim the President's twenty million naira for first position, the allegation became strong prompting two "Independent Media Professionals", apparently in the payroll of the Rivers state government to commence frantic shuttles in the news media circle at the venue "to douse the damaging allegation". The two "Independent Media Professionals", a middle aged man and a lady in her early thirties denied the allegation at about 2.15pm yesterday before some news reporters, one of whom is a chidi opara reports network member.

In addition to the 135 gold medals, Rivers state also hauled 29 silver and 85 bronze medals. Delta state came second with 85 gold, 88 silver and 81 bronze medals, while Edo state came third with 46 gold, 41 silver and 43 bronze medals. Delta and Edo states will get fifteen and ten million naira respectively. These are also amounts promised by the President for the second and third positions. Rivers, Delta and Edo are Niger Delta states.

The President represented by the Vice-president, Mr. Namadi Sambo in a colourful ceremony yesterday declared the Games ended with a plea to youths to embrace patriotism.

Politics / "scalps Of Surrogate Gods" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:31am On Jul 08, 2011
These bees
Buzzing
Near my ears,
Harassing me ceaselessly
With scant scriptures
And doctored doctrines.
These burglars of hallowed heritage
Hugging honeycombs here,
Yet
Humming hymns of hereafter,
Yet
Humming
The anthem of apocalypse.
These vicious invaders
Of abodes of gods,
Stinging
Scalps of surrogate gods,
These buzzing bigots.

Politics / “chamber Of Charades2” By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:17am On Jul 07, 2011
With vile victory
Minions
March
To the other chamber of charades,
Its walls pasted
With credo of charades.
They strut
And shuffle scrips,
They share slush funds.
They sing songs
To soothe ears
Of chief of charades
Snoozing from hangovers
From excess crude cash.
Shylock’s servants await signal
To slice pounds of flesh,
Chief of charades
Oblivious
Snoozes.
They stamp sovereign seal
On soiled scrips,
Chief of charades
Snoozes.

Politics / “chamber Of Charades” By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 6:48pm On Jul 05, 2011
They arrive chamber of charades
Prancing
On peacock plumage.
Joy,
Jokes,
Backslapping rise to rooftop.
The gallery protrudes
With genuflecting goons.
The mace marches in
With merchants of charades
Mimicking messiahs
And merchandising charades.
Hush strikes,
Silence serenades,
Charades cascade
Chamber of charades,
Minions march to mace.
With mirth
They murmur mumbo-jumbo.
They bow
And leave,
Laden with mandates.

Politics / “the Ballads Of Chukwu” By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 4:01pm On Jul 03, 2011
I built a sanctum
In my soul,
Thence I sing,
Songs for souls
Searching.
Thence
My mind memorizes today
And remembers yesterday,
Thence
My mind imagines tomorrow,
Whence come
The ballads of Chukwu.
A sanctum,
Not like the safe houses
Of scoundrels in the capital city,
I will water
The wasteland with ballads,
So greens will grow
And give succour
Even to green-eyed bards.
With ballads of Chukwu,
I will build Abuja with no buccaneers,
I will build Eden with no elves.

Politics / “guard Gods Of Muse Gate” By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 5:10pm On Jun 28, 2011
I render no apology for apostasy,
My knees will not kneel
For alleged blasphemy
Against guard gods of muse gate.
Guard gods
Whose shrines are built on dune,
Shrines
Whose altars are built with straw,
Guard gods formed with clay
From soiled swamps.
I will not wear
The pinafore of penance
For singing new songs,
Nor wear apparel of mourning
For the death of hideous yesterday.
Today is alive,
Today is time to renounce
The ugliness of yesterday.
Tomorrow will be beautiful,
Tomorrow will be born to vindicate

Literature / "mary Magdalene’s Mug" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 3:29pm On Jun 26, 2011
I watched him
Dip his forefinger
Deep
Inside Mary Magdalene’s mug,
His forefinger
Soaked in her juice.
I saw him drop a seed
Inside Mary Magdalene’s mug,
I watched the supper
After the last supper,
I smelt
The sweet smell of that supper.
I saw Mary Magdalene
And the seed
Hidden
In the remote region,
I heard them
Declare him seedless.
I hear questions,
I see discomfort
On the face of dishonesty.

Politics / “politicians, Patricians And Pulpit Pranksters” By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 9:31am On Jun 23, 2011
From the alluring arms of Avuvu
I shoot my semen
Into the womb of the web,
The World Wide Web.
I beget babies,
Their cots armoured with amulets
To keep at bay
The angers of anopheles,
The pranks of politicians,
Patricians
And pulpit pranksters.
I play peek-a-boo.
I listen to boos from rallies,
From congregations,
Boos from palaces.
I play peek-a-boo again.
I pander
To the transgression of timidity.

Literature / "woe Betide The Gods If………." By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 4:47pm On Jun 20, 2011
Let me take my cudgel
And float
To the land of spirits
To club agwu,
Spirit of mischief.
When I return,
Round their heads,
Those servants awaiting chores,
I will circle ofo,
Totem of my tribe.
After circling,
Ofo
Will hit the soil as covenant.
Woe betide the servants
If like servants before
They break the cupboard
And steal the soup.
Woe betide the gods
If soup for our offspring
Is stolen again by scoundrels.

Politics / "degenerates Pound Our Polity Polluted" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:59am On Jun 17, 2011
We fight in fronts
With our hands at our backs
Bound,
Our legs in shackles.
Degenerates
Pound our polity
Polluted
And plant bombs in our sacred places,
In playpens,
In our bed chambers.
Proteges,
Protegees of power
Spit on our pained faces,
Our biles
Like volcanoes boil,
Our whining
And whimpering drowned
By cacophony of corruption cases.
Pardoned kidnappers
Cruise in our capital city,
Cuddling ransoms,
We supplicate in shackles.

Politics / "they Solemnly Swear" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:50am On May 31, 2011
“I solemnly swear”,
The sacrilege starts
From the holy of holies.
With soiled palms
Placed on holy writs
And lips
Limp from lying
Managing to move,
This sacrilege
This sunny Sabbath
Spread
To other temples.
Congregations
Swim in expectations.
“So help me God”,
The charade ends.
Sextons
Sworn into sanctums
Sneak
Into sanctuaries to steal.
Solemnity,
Shamed,
Slinks.

Politics / "they Are Munching With Presido" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 3:43pm On May 29, 2011
Their megaphones
Lay under the table.
Their eyes dart
On dishes and desserts.
The aroma arouses,
Their noses nudge.
With spoons
With Satan embossed,
They scoop
And munch sweet morsels,
They are munching with Presido.
Boxes
Brimming with bribe
Balance between their feet.
They munch
And breach their purity.
With bulging bellies
They bow,
They bellow,
“Peoples Presido!”
They belch lyrics
Laced with theatricals.
Presido with pageantry
Bestride our pony
And prowl with pomp,
Our patrimony.

Politics / "money Lender And Daughter Of Borrower" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:40am On May 24, 2011
I sit in front of sopuruchi
My companion,
My computer,
Nibbling on succulent udara fruits
And taking stroll
On the world wide web,
Ignoring
Guard dogs in the guard house
Playing lords to bitches on heat.
I stop strolling
And ponder
Matter of money lender
Who ravish hapless daughter
Of impoverished borrower.
I ponder also
The lure
Of luxuriant lettuces
In the lender’s garden
And the lean bananas
In the borrower’s backyard.
The puzzle,
Poverty,
Prosperity
In back to back bonding.

Politics / "where Wasps Whistle Warnings Of War" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 9:41am On May 16, 2011
Do not abandon me here
Oh Mother Muse,
On this grassland
Where green snakes
Snuggle to green grasses
To brew venom,
Where wasps whistle
Warnings of war.
On this expanse
Where rage rules,
And righteousness repulsive.
In the meantime,
Let me stir
My black brew,
My antidote.
Let me stare
At its steam
And gulp its aroma
With my nostrils.
Let its bitter taste
Tickle my taste bud.

Politics / "twenty-ninth Day Of The Fifth Moon" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 12:44pm On May 04, 2011
On the twenty-ninth day
Of the fifth moon,
Day demi-gods drink
And dance with derangement,
Palm fronds decorate roads,
The populace in search of succour
Prostrate
And hail,
“Hosanna in the highest!”
Their threadbare clothes spread
For hosanna’s horses to tread on.
From a high horse,
Hosanna,
Unlike hosanna of yore
Pronounce more promises
To wave wand of magic
And worries will wane,
Elation erupt.
Drumbeats
And dances
Of dancers possessed,
Praises of parrots
And chants of caged clergies
Herald another grope
In the unlit alley.

NYSC / "bloodied Caps Of Corpers" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 3:47pm On May 01, 2011
Daggers drawn.
Daggers descend,
Deep,
Dragging
Discords to devil’s domain.
Bloodied caps of corpers,
Lambs of sacrifice
To the lunacy of loud-mouths
Hang atop our flagpole,
Staining decency.
Our flag,
Fluffy,
In tatters,
Depict our unity.
Music of vile victory
Muffle the murder
And mock our mourning.
Our weeping is drowning
In their demagoguery,
Our wailing gagging
With gushes of wine
From cellars of vile victors.

Politics / "dialogue With Elite Friend" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:10am On Apr 22, 2011
Friend: Chidi, why do you waste your time and energy to write poems only to post them on blogs, listservs, websites and social networking sites for people to read free?

Me: I aim to reach the highest number of people possible from diverse backgrounds with my poetry. For me, mass media like blogs, listservs, websites and social networking sites are best for my purpose.

Friend: nonsense, poetry is for those with elevated intellect, not for everybody.

Me: wrong notion. Opaque poetry written mainly for students to read and pass exams, which they usually forget about immediately after graduation, may fall into this category. Poetry is supposed to be one of the tools of socio-political and cultural mobilization.

Friend: I am still of the opinion that you should publish only on books and on literary review journals, if you want to be taken serious.

Me: (laughter) taken serious by who? The people whom I write for take me serious, judging by their reactions. Anyway, publishers of books and literary review journals are free to publish my poems if they choose to.

Friend: what do you gain from poetry since you are not making money from it?

Me: if my poetry helps to reform the society, I would have secured at least a footnote in history.

Friend: (chuckle) how do you think poetry can reform the society?

Me: (surprise) if the right messages are delivered in less opaque poetry to the highest number of people possible with diverse backgrounds, they will one day revolt against oppressors.

Friend: even blogs, listservs, websites and social networking sites do not reach everybody

Me: right, but they at least have wider reach.

Friend: how do you reach those who do not have access to the Internet?

Me: in future, I hope to print my poems on leaflets and also record them on audio/visual tapes and distribute them free in motor parks, market places and other such places where the masses are found.

Friend: (scornfully) all hail the poet!

Me: (smiling) time will tell.

Politics / "we Tip-toe On Thumb Of Thuggery" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 6:04pm On Apr 21, 2011
We line on long line
With longing to elect.
They tick our thumbs with ink,
The thugs they tip.
We tip-toe on thumb of thuggery
To vote tents,
To thumb print with trepidation
On breached ballot papers.
On the way to vote vetting venue
Our votes vanish,
Our thumbprints
Trampled,
Trashed.
From residences of rogues
Thumbprints emerge
And migrate into vote vaults,
Mischievous missions
Mutter mumbo-jumbo.
We mope
While rogues
Mangle our hope.
