Politics / "with Blood We Blight Sanctum Of Our Sovereignty" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 7:58pm On Apr 19, 2011 |
Why do we With blood blight Sanctum of our sovereignty? Why do we Litter guts of our kinsfolk? Vultures On corpses of our kindred Careen, Our kith and kin Sacrificed So we will savour sauce of power. Our dingy minds Diseased with greed And drape in deception Drip hate. Yet We hasten hourly To hallowed houses to sing hymns And sway our frames to spiritual frenzy. http://homelandmelodies..com/2011/04/with-blood-we-blight-sanctum-of-our.html |
Politics / "requiem For Revolution" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 4:19pm On Apr 10, 2011 |
Kitted In borrowed kit of revolution, With sword and swagger, The heckler Hatches a hoopla, Rouses the rabble And proclaims the rancour Revolution. With flared up features And heaving heart, The heckler swaggers Into meal chamber of the state mansion, Smiles, Salutes And surrenders the sword, The swagger. From the meal chamber, Requiem for revolution Saunters into the ears Of the waiting rabble, Rag-tag, Starved. They slink into shanties to sulk. http://mundanemuses..com/2011/04/requiem-for-revolution.html |
Politics / "wobbling On Waters Of The Niger" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 7:15pm On Apr 05, 2011 |
Our half wrecked ship Wobbles on waters of the Niger, Our Captain half asleep, The crew chattering like hippies High on hashish. Her womb heavy Like Noah's ark of yore With panic-stricken passengers, Peering At the horizon Where hope and hopelessness meet. Anchor bearers, Dizzy with drinks Draw anchors But postpone the throw, Throwing instead Tantrums At traumatized passengers. Our half wreck wobbles to destination unknown, Her hatch heavy with spoils. Our destiny wobbles along With our half wreck. http://homelandmelodies..com/2011/04/wobbling-on-waters-of-niger.html |
Politics / "empires Renewed" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 11:33am On Mar 11, 2011 |
Wind of violence, Sorrows and shivers, Election Day draws near. Sword of Damocles dangles, Daring. Quivering voters queue, Shaky hands cuddle vote cards, Election Day is here. Vote boxes brim with vote cards Dropped with fear, Sword of Damocles threatens. Scribblers, Hirelings of incumbents In the inner sanctum of state houses Scribble speeches of acceptance And choirs rehearse chords For thanksgiving services. Oaths of office, Oaths of allegiance, Anthem and pledge, Speeches. Emperors And Empresses embrace, Empires renewed. http://mundanemuses..com/2011/03/empires-renewed.html |
Politics / Collapsing Cenotaph Of Soldiers Unknown By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 10:10am On Jan 05, 2011 |
Songs of sorrow, Shouts of solidarity, The bugle bellows. Clump, Clump And clump Of shiny jackboots On collapsing cenotaph Of soldiers unknown. Frames stiffen In starched attires, Hands raised In half-hearted salutes To brave heroes Battered in battles, To heroes fallen. Graves Are now graced by grasses, The body of the battered Battle with bandages, They beg for bread. Songs of sorrow, Shouts of solidarity, The bugle bellows again. Clump, Clump And clump. Salutes, Siren. Solidarity And sorrow Suspended. http://mundanemuses..com/2011/01/collapsing-cenotaph-of-soldiers-unknown.html |
Politics / Insignia With Inscription "anthony Enahoro" By Chidi Anthony Opara by PIPROM(m): 4:46pm On Dec 17, 2010 |
Like a meteor On sail in space, Meandering through columns Of menacing clouds, He sailed with saber And landed On the landscape of Midwest. His mettle manifested, The miasma melted. As battle blaze Of brave beacons raged, Insignia with inscription "Anthony Enahoro" shined. After decades Of dreams of democracy, The democrat demurred At desecration of democracy And departed to the dingle To dine With departed democrats. Now, Mealy mouthed moguls of mock Mouth mockery Garbed in garb of praise. |
Poems For Review / Dungeon Diary by PIPROM(m): 5:19pm On Nov 13, 2010 |
I was thrown into dungeon Not into paradise promised, The year was 1914. Honey pot Buried beneath my earth Was unearthed, Uncovered, The year was 1956. The year was 1960 When fluffy flag flew, I stood in salute And sang the Anthem. Swashbuckling soldiers Swaggered onto the stage With illusions of leadership, The year was 1966. 1967 came, Rage reigned, Regiments railroaded me To refugee camp. In 1970, Rage turned to rumble. Rumble ceased, Politicians Pranced podiums with prattles. They pounced on my mandate And lined their pockets with loots, Rumble returned, The year was 1983. Rumble ceased again, More prancing, More prattles. Politicians Pounced on my mandate again And lined their pockets again with loots, They threw me into deeper dungeon, The year is now. Politics / News Release: Mend Alerts On Bomb At Nigeria’s Golden Jubilee Celebration Venue by PIPROM(m): 11:20am On Oct 01, 2010 |
With due respect to all invited guests, dignitaries and attendees of the 50th independence anniversary of Nigeria being held today, Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Eagle Square Abuja, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is asking everyone to begin immediate evacuation of the entire area within the next 30 minutes. This warning expires after 10.30Hrs Several explosive devices have been successfully planted in and around the venue by our operatives working inside the government security services. In evacuating the area, keep a safe distance from vehicles and trash bins. There is nothing worth celebrating after 50 years of failure. For 50 years, the people of the Niger Delta have had their land and resources stolen from them. The constitution before independence which offered resource control was mutilated by illegal military governments and this injustice is yet to be addressed. Poems For Review / Like Expectant Nobelists by PIPROM(m): 5:22pm On Sep 30, 2010 |
We gather again Like we gathered last season To wait return of wine bearer. Drenched with sweat of expectation We sweat in anticipation. Our minds nibble at expectation of wine Like minds of expectant Nobelists Nibbling at expectation of laurel. Season after season Wine bearer from far land Return for merriment On mother’s nudity, Made nude by our hands. Wine bearer soon Will saunter across father’s obi Into mother’s unwilling crotch. We, Offspring of denuded motherhood Will scramble to drink from wine gourd. We swallowed messages of Moses, Charades of chastity, We swallowed holy hogwash. We will swallow again Liquor from far land, We will sleep after. We will wake Clutching Gourd of sour wine. By Chidi Anthony Opara Source: http://www.chidianthonyoparapoems.blog.com |
Poems For Review / Rapprochements With Roaches by PIPROM(m): 5:00pm On Sep 24, 2010 |
Let me hide my ogene, My ogene stick In the trunk of tomorrow. Let me veil my voice From ravage of rage. Let my heavy heart Implore My lean legs To lead me away, Away from lure of lucre, Away from allure of Aden Where lieutenants of Lucifer Preach Rapprochements with roaches Roving in precincts of oil pots. Warriors wage wars now For whiff of oil, No more for honour. Singers sing now To serenade servants of Satan. Let my absence in Aden, The sound of my silence Revile Rapprochements with roaches. Politics / News Release From Mend by PIPROM(m): 11:40am On Jul 10, 2010 |
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) condemns the deliberate misinformation of the government of Ghana and its people by the Nigerian High commissioner to Ghana at the behest of the Nigerian government. The Nigerian High commission in Ghana has been mandated by the government of Nigeria to spread panic in Ghana with the hope that this will erode the understanding the people of Ghana have for the legitimate fight of the people of the Niger Delta against decades of oppression by the Nigerian state and western oil companies. Why Ghana? Ghana is recognized as one of the few countries in West Africa where the rule of law is upheld. A democratic nation capable of resisting the bullying of the Nigerian government, very unlike dictatorships such as Angola. Nigerians escaping persecution from the ever lawless governments in Nigerian have very often sought refuge in Ghana to the chagrin of the Nigerian government. In order to make the Ghanaian government malleable to its future demands for extradition, the government of Nigeria recently decided to spread fear in the Ghanaian oil industry and brand any one who seeks refuge in Ghana in the future, a member of MEND seeking to target the Ghanaian oil industry. This same tactic was employed by the Nigerian government in 2009 when it dubiously alerted Western embassies in Lagos, Nigeria of alleged plans by the militants to attack western embassies. This dubious alert was then dismissed by all western embassies. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta is fighting against a glaring injustice. The land of the Niger Delta alone has been confiscated by the government from its owners and distributed to western oil companies and a few Nigerians from outside our region. We have been declared landless by the Nigerian government, yet without benefit. The government of Nigeria have been unable to cover-up this crime against humanity which have been exposed by every individual and organization that have visited the Niger Delta. The people of the Niger Delta are peace loving people who simply cannot understand why a government which have confined us to slavery having stolen our lands, should expects peace. Dating to times before the independence of Ghana, the people of the Niger delta, especially the Ijaws have co-existed with Ghanaians in Ghana. Ghana is of no strategic importance in our fight against the Nigerian military. We respect the sovereignty of all nations bordering the Niger Delta and limit our operations to oil related facilities in Nigeria. The government and People of Ghana should therefore discountenance the un-intelligent and baseless claim of the Nigerian High commissioner, Musiliu Obanikoro intended to whip xenophobic sentiments against the Ijaws and other indigenous tribes of the Niger Delta legitimately visiting or residing in Ghana. Politics / News Report: Nigerian Radicals Regret Nominating Election Commission Chairman by PIPROM(m): 10:06am On Jun 17, 2010 |
Some members of Nigeria's radical class in an informal meeting at the chamber of a famous Lagos based radical Lawyer recently expressed regrets over their nomination of Professor Attahiru Jega, Chairman-designate of Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC). These radical who usually meet at the Lawyer's chamber in the evening hours on week days and in the afternoon hours on weekends, this time met to deliberate on the information that the INEC Chairman-designate, whom they nominated at the request of the President was in negotiation with leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), as prelude to his confirmation by the Senate. PDP is in majority in the Nigerian bi-cameral federal Parliament. The Nigerian President wanting to curry friendship of the influential Lagos based radical class had requested it to nominate an INEC Chairman-designate, these radicals made up of vocal lawyers, journalists, labour leaders and civil society activists had according to information available to chidi opara reports forwarded three names which included Attahiru Jega to the President. Jega, a former labour union leader was eventually considered. chidi opara reports however learnt that when it became obvious that the Chairman-designate would not be confirmed by the PDP dominated Senate, the former University don following advice from some northern senators decided to negotiate with the PDP leadership. The outcome of this negotiation is not know to us at the moment. A civil society activist, known to be close to the radical lawyer told one of our network members that "negotiating without informing us is an act of betrayal, it is clear he is no longer with us". A contact at the PDP national headquarters have since confirmed this negotiation to chidi opara reports. Source: http://chidioparareports..com/2010/06/news-report-nigerian-radicals-regret.html |
Politics / News Report: Politicians From South Eastern Nigeria Under Pressure To Contest by PIPROM(m): 10:29am On Jun 16, 2010 |
Politicians of South Eastern Nigeria origin chidi opara reports can reveal are under pressure to contest for President in 2011. South Eastern Nigeria is home to the Igbos, one of the three major ethnic nationalities in Nigeria. The Igbos have only ruled for six months since Independence. The six-month-administration was the period of late General JTU Aguiyi-Ironsi. Nnamdi Azikiwe, another Igbo was ceremonial President. This pressure we learnt is occassioned by the feeling among Igbos that the majority ethnic nationality would be sidelined in the scheme of things if the Presidency goes to any other region in 2011. Igbos interviewed in Enugu, Owerri and Umuahia in the course of our investigation are of the opinion that if the North is given preference to complete the second term of the tenure started by late Umaru Yar'Adua which would end in 2015, there would be desire by the incumbent to go for the constitutionally allowed second term which would terminate in 2019, same fear was expressed in the event of President Jonathan contesting in 2011. When reminded of the option of Igbos actualizing their Presidential dream outside the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), most respondents feared that going by the nature of past electoral contests in Nigeria, the ruling party would always win. "Our people are pilling pressures on us to vie for president in 2011, how can we ask them to wait till 2019?", a member of PDP Board of Trustees told one of our network members in Umuahia. PDP we learnt would fill the vacant position of national Chairman with another Igbo. The former national Chairman resigned in the wake of allegations of corruption. A PDP woman leader in Owerri however retorted "what is national chairman? Does the national chairman award contracts? Does he appoint people to positions?" A man who claimed to be a member of Movement For The Actualization Of Sovereign State Of Biafra(MASSOB) told chidi opara reports in Enugu that "since they don't want us in Nigeria, they should allow us to go". A good number of respondents reacted in similar manner. Information at our disposal has it that PDP is considering allocating either the Vice-president or Senate president position to the South-east depending on which region produced the Presidential candidate, but a prominent PDP member in Owerri told chidi opara reports that "we have had enough of Vice-president and Senate president, we want the real thing this time, otherwise our people would lynch us if we set foot on Igboland after 2011". Politics / News Report: Dethronement Of Yoruba King Political by PIPROM(m): 4:06pm On Jun 13, 2010 |
Investigation by chidi opara reports have shown that the dethronement of the Deji of Akureland, Mr. Oluwadare Adesina by the Ondo state administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is political. The former King was last week involved in a public physical fight with one of his queens known as Bolanle, which resulted into his dethronement. Mr. Adesina was subsequently barnished to Owo, a town close to Akure in south western Nigeria. The former King we learnt is known to be an outspoken person who hates injustice, but whose major fault is his readiness to take to physical fights to press home his points. This fact we learnt was well known to the Kingmakers of Akureland and in security circles in the state prior to Adesina's assumption of the Kingship Oluwadare Adesina's undoing we also learnt is his inability to adapt to the fact that there is a change of politcal leadership in the state. "It is not that the former Deji was against the governor, it is just that he did not like the incursion of external forces into the state", an informed Akure resident volunteered to chidi opara reports. Our investigation further revealed that the former monarch was always at loggerheads with members of the Akure Traditional Council, whom he accused of collaborating with elements from outside to control the resources of the state. The former King would have been dethroned last year by the Kingmakers but for the timely intervention of the governor. It is however known now that the governor intervened to save Adesina as way of co-opting him into the present political leadership cabal in the state. The former monarch reportedly rejected every overture by the governor to lure him into the cabal. He was reported to have given a pre-condition that the governor should stop associating with those he described as "colonialists from Lagos". It was when they could not get him on their side that they set up Bolanle to misbehave so as to annoy Deji", a contact close to Adesina told chidi opara reports in Akure. The estranged queen is reported to have been promised a princely sum and assistance to relocate to any country of her choice after the humiliation of Mr. Adesina. She is also said to be in an adulterous relationship with a former aide of a former governor of Lagos state. The former Deji of Akureland who is presently the subject of sponsored attacks by a section of the Nigerian media may be arraigned in court for "assault and battery". Poems For Review / Her Majesty, Natives And Phantoms by PIPROM(m): 4:08pm On May 04, 2010 |
The royal hand Of Her Majesty In reluctance stretched To hand garments of leadership To outstretched hands Of zealous Natives. Colours of green and white Of symbol of sovereignity Hoisted, Smiled on Natives. Phantoms, Clones of Her Majesty Lurked, Waiting for garments. They appeared, Some colourful, Others colourless. Her Majesty in disregard Of quest of Natives Gave garments. The seed Of Phantoms leadership Sown, Germinated. When Her Majesty departed, Khaki Phantoms revolted. With swagger And bravado, Garments of leadership They snatched, Khaki leadership ensued. Natives nursed Wounds of aberration, Harassed By sound of guns, Bombs. When Hell ceased fury, Khaki revolted again, Her Majesty Returned for another charade. Garments Sat on shelves With labels of high prices Awaiting highest bidders. Phantoms with lucre Purchased garments, Another Phantoms revolt. Natives On threshold of despair Now search garment rooms In hope of retrieving garments. Politics / News Report: Race For Nigeria's Number 2 Position In Top Gear by PIPROM(m): 6:41pm On May 03, 2010 |
Ever since indications emerged that the ailing Nigerian President, Mr. Umaru Yar'Adua would be declared incapacitated soon by the Executive Council Of The Federation(EXCOF), some political figures from the North have entered the race to occupy the position of Vice-president. It is expected that when the President is eventually declared incapable, the Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the substantive Vice-president would be sworn in as substantive President. Jonathan is from Southern Nigeria. What gave push to this race was the recent secret meeting between the influential Northern Nigeria political pressure group, Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF) and the Acting President in which we learnt the issue of the President's health was discussed extensively. chidi opara reports can reveal that the forum insisted on being allowed to approach the President's wife first with the option of resignation, failure of which the Cabinet can go ahead with declaring him incapacitated, but contacts close to the first lady told us that she would not consent to the resignation option. We could not however, ascertain at the time of preparing this report if Mrs.Yar'Adua have been approached. Our network members in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja have however, reported increased political activities in the camps of former speakers of the House of Representatives, Messrs. Umar Ghali Na'Abba and Aminu Bello Masari. These activities, our network members insist are linked to quests for the post of Vice-president under a Goodluck Jonathan Presidency. Reports also linked the return last week of former Minister of Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Nasir El-Rufai from self exile to his quest for the post. El-Rufai, an Olusegun Obasanjo protege will have to contend with another protege, Muritala Yar'Adua, the President's nephew and presently the junior Minister of Defence, who is discreetly lobbying for the post. While Obasanjo prefers El-Rufai, "because of his experience and maturity", the Acting President prefers the young Yar'Adua. "He will like to demonstrate his gratitude to the family by choosing their son as his VP", a Jonathan aide told chidi opara reports recently in Abuja. The ACF whom we learnt are keeping their cards close to their chest, would likely endorse a dark horse for the position. Poems For Review / Grip Of The Muse by PIPROM(m): 4:53pm On Apr 25, 2010 |
Like ostrich With head in sand I long to immerse My head In the pool of rest, Momentary respite From possessive grip Of the Muse. Like a herald Imprisoned in mission I long for momentary release. Torrent of messages Mass In the mould Threatening to burst. Let me open the tap again And water the flowers. Let me feed me With more meals of fortitude, Lest I slump In the forest of fatigue. Like a frightened house cat We scampered out Of that ship Named ineptitude, Where aloof loner captained And we were held Prisoners with promises, Promises of seven-point agenda. Push! Our freedom was lost. We were pushed Into this craft Named contraption, A craft Of inverted goodluck. Hired choristers Regale us again With new hymns Of another agenda. We are prisoners again, Prisoners of agenda. Choirmasters Are in frenzy again, Profiting from our misfortune. Literature / “thus Saith The Lord” by PIPROM(m): 6:29pm On Apr 15, 2010 |
Mercenary missionaries Pontificating on pulpits With putrid beef Stuck in their throats Like snake Stuck in the throat of another. Their forked tongues Manage to speak varied tales Of “thus saith the Lord”. Pockets of their missionary robes Are laden with twisted truths As they scramble To choreograph the hypnotized. Opium of their choir Induce mass hysteria And make-believe, Promising the zealous Paradise hereafter. They minister to monarchs In dingy palaces, They dwell In false piety In paradise here. Politics / News Reports: Ibb And Orji Kalu Candidacy Likely In 2011 by PIPROM(m): 4:00pm On Apr 11, 2010 |
chidi opara reports can now reveal that an Ibrahim Babangida(IBB) and Orji Uzor Kalu candidacy is likely in the forthcoming 2011 general elections. Ibrahim Babangida was Nigeria's military President from 1985 to 1993. Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu was a past governor of Abia state. Our network members in Umuahia, capital city of Abia state and Minna, the capital city of Niger state, reported recent secret meetings between emissaries of Orji Uzor Kalu, led by a south east vocal senator and key aides of the former military President, at IBB's hilltop mansion and at the government house Umuahia. The present governor of Abia state, Mr. Theodore Orji was elected on the platform of the Progressive Peoples' Alliance(PPA), Kalu is the Chairman, Board of Trustees of PPA. The major problem the IBB/Orji Kalu ticket is facing is former President Olusegun Obasanjo. A contact close to Obasanjo informed chidi opara reports in Abeokuta, capital city of Ogun state, Obasanjo's home state that the immediate past President had "endorsed in principle", the IBB candidacy, but is yet "undecided" about Orji Kalu. Obasanjo and Kalu fell out during the second term of the Obasanjo Presidency, which made Kalu to quit the Peoples' Democratic Party(PDP), where he was a foundation member to form PPA. Obasanjo is currently the Chairman, Board of Trustees of PDP where IBB and Kalu are hoping to run. We also learnt that at the moment, the Orji Kalu and IBB foot soldiers are trying hard to sell the Kalu Vice Presidential candidacy to Obasanjo, Kalu's party would however, be the platform if contesting in PDP becomes impossible. "PPA would be our fall back if the PDP option fail", an IBB insider told us in Minna. Another hard nut would be the not very favourable disposition of the south east governors and the Igbo apex socio-cultural organization, "Oha Neze Ndi Igbo", to the arrangement. Checks in the south east revealed that governors from the region and "Oha Neze Ndi Igbo" chieftains are not very keen on the Orji Uzor Kalu Vice Presidential ticket. His tendency to always do things to please the core north was cited as a major reason. "Even the Abia state governor is not enthusiastic about the so called IBB/Kalu ticket, he is only playing along to save his political skin", a contact in government house Umuahia informed chidi opara reports. Literature / Indefinite Self-suspension Of Association Of Nigerian Authors Membership by PIPROM(m): 3:28pm On Apr 06, 2010 |
The President Association of Nigerian Authors(ANA) National Theatre Complex Iganmu, Lagos State. Through The Chairman Association of Nigerian Authors(ANA) Rivers State Branch Port Harcourt Rivers state. 31st March, 2010 Dear Sir, Indefinite Self-Suspension of ANA Membership: I write to inform you that I have indefinitely suspended my membership of the Association with effect from 2nd April, 2010. You will recall that for a year now, I have been pointing out serious anomalies in the administration of the Association, for which no attempts have so far been made to correct, even though there were promises to that effect. When I compare present day ANA and the one that confronted the Babangida administration in 1986 over the matter of late Poet Mamman Vatsa for instance, I am left with no other option than to take the above action pending when the Association would be steered back to the original aims and objectives as enshrined in its constitution. I will make this letter public for the sake of posterity. Thank you. Chidi Anthony Opara (From Facebook Notes) |
Politics / Chief Imam Of Abuja National Mosque Mobilizes Northern Nigerian Moslems by PIPROM(m): 10:04am On Apr 05, 2010 |
The Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosgue, Ustaz Musa Mohammed is mobilizing northern Nigerian moslem faithfuls for the ailing President, Umaru Yar'Adua, in the event of an attempt by the yet to be inauguarated cabinet invoking the relevant section of the Constitution to declare him incapacitated, a prelude to inaugurating the acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as substantive President. The Chief Imam recently claimed to have visited the President at the Presidential Villa in company of Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmed, President of Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria(SCSN) and others, on Friday 2nd April, 2010. The President have been incommunicado since he took ill in November last year. chidi opara reports was reliably informed that as soon as the core loyalists of President Yar'Adua, in the wake of the dissolution of the last cabinet put together by the President, by the acting President, with the backing of the Presidential Advisory Commitee(PAC), led by rtd. Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma and the National Security Adviser(NSA), rtd. Lt. General Aliyu Guasu, learnt of the plan to declare the President incapacitated by the incoming cabinet, they approached Datti Ahmed, an influential northern moslem leader for help. Ahmed, a peripheral Yar'Adua loyalist in turn recruited the Chief Imam for "the mobilization of the faithfuls against injustice to a sick brother". It is also learnt that at the time of preparing this report, radical moslem clerics in major mosques in the core northern regions of the country have been contacted by carefully selected foot soldiers to "prepare the faithfuls", especially youths for a show down should an attempt be made to remove Yar'Adua. Funds have also been disbursed for this purpose. Source of fund is however unknown at this time, but unconfirmed information points in the direction of a very wealthy moslem businessman from Borno State with links to Libya and Saudi Arabia. Further investigation by chidi opara reports indicated that the plan to use northern Nigerian moslems to stop the removal of the sick President is a fall back measure by his core loyalists when they realized that their military option have been neutralized by the NSA. Poems For Review / Haze Of Jubilee by PIPROM(m): 10:59am On Apr 02, 2010 |
When we gape At our torn Independence Hoisted on shaky flagpole On that day of jubilee, We will count fifty stains, Blood stains on that garment Of our farcical nationhood. Trumpet herald of merriment Will shepherd us To arena of jubilee Where we will drown in jubilations With ale and crumbs To quench our thirst, Our hunger And anger. Dancers And singers Will soothe our eyes And ears, We will be lost In haze of jubilee. After jubilations, Termites will nibble again On our flesh, Refusing to devour us, Refusing to leave us alive. After unholy hug, Vandalized virtue And vanished virginity Await groom, Zealous parishioner Fed full With another cant Of “no pre-marital hug”. After matrimonial mass, Cassock and couple Mingled in merriment. By Chidi Anthony Opara (From author's Facebook Page) |
