Well, it is good he has invited those ones to camp. At least he would have a closer look. But men... Rohr's mind is already made up on the NPFL players grin
Those ones na just make e be say he listens to critics' advice.

Right from the word "go" I have known the kind of coach he is.

Let's put this in perspective. Let's say you were a Nigerian foreign Super Eagles manager, vaguely acclimatized to the local nigerian league and its conspicuous poor management and political intricacies. In addition, let's just say this was not a dud game and your performance as a manager in this game determines your Job retaintion and future career prospect, would you in good judgement put your hopes in local league players when you have better proven alternatives with the foreign prospects.

"Chelsea destroyed the player Mikel once was," Siasia says, groaning. "They did a lot of damage to Nigerian football. Here was a young, enterprising midfielder who was going to be like Jay-Jay Okocha. He was about opening up defences, not protecting them."

Thinking of Mikel Obi always hurts me. The loss to football was too huge. Why did Chelsea not leave him for Manchester United? Mourinho did not need him at all. He had Makelele and Essien. Chelsea could sign any World class defensive midfielder they wanted.

Why sign one of the most gifted creative midfielders ever and convert him to a defensive midfielder?

I hate thinking of it.

But Mikel himself doesn't have too many problems with it.
It was the only way he'd get into the Chelsea team.

I have never been in support of keeping slots for local players.
My own philosophy is get the best players irrespective of where they are based. If any particular NPFL player does enough to deserve a calling then give him that opportunity.

Mikel having or not having a problem with it is not the point. Mikel made a professional sacrifice but the World of football had a huge loss in that sacrifice too.

Until today we are yet to see a midfielder with such Grace and the destruction was huge.

Chelsea did not need him. Mourinho just wanted to destroy the union with Alex Ferguson, hoping to gain an edge. His selfishness destroyed a big impact in football.

Read the last part, he just want to play football. He's relatively young and Coming from Africa with the tussle he had before he got signed. He just wanted to be in the match regardless of the position. He's a young boy that doesn't care. All he care about is playing. You can't blame him

Funny enough, I was having an argument with some Ghananians on one of those Liverpool WhatsApp group.. The topic was that Mikel could not be ranked ahead of Essein in an African premier league XI..I disagreed and opinioned that it was debatable..Given the fact that Essein's inability to stay fit was part of why Mikel had to give up his natural position as an AMF in the team...

It's like na only me no dey perturbed by the boat idea.

I actually think it's cool. A lot of them may never have traveled anywhere by boat, so, it's a new experience and it could be fun.

I don't even like water at all, and I would personally never get on a boat willingly, but a boat trip sounds chill.

Of course, I am working on the assumption that the boat in question, will be of top quality

Personally,I have travelled by water over a hundred times before.. It's a trilling experience only if safety is guaranteed..
My concern is that the NFF have made the idea of traveling by water so publicized that nearly everybody knows about it now...The team shouldn't be made target by pirates...that's the main issue..

Still, a plane would have been easier and faster... Didn't the team fly to Cameroon from Uyo the other time? Don't see why it should be different this time..

Yep. Plus I think Mou wanted to make him a 2 way midfielder...same with Pogba. But Mikel never had the stamina to play that kind of role.
When you have a talent like that - you adjust.

I really wish our local media would actually seize this moment and talk more about the local players that were invited into camp, instead of advertising the players that are already big. the local league needs a lot of attention. I'm just saying.

You guys are seriously delusional saying Chelsea destroyed Mikel. Yes, mikel started his football as a CAM before signing for Chelsea and was utilized as a CDM initially and eventually. But please did Chelsea sign mikel on a lifetime contract? No. Mikel could had left the club even after 1 season if he felt unjustified at his position so please cut that crap. There are no guarantees that he would even had succeeded at man utd. A player that has 2 epl
4 fa cups
2 europa leagues
1 CL
2 carling cup

For Chelsea and even played in almost all finals is described as "failed"

When you start your comment by calling people delusional, there is a big chance you will make a delusional statement.

I for one has repeatedly hammered that Mikel had a very successful career at Chelsea and obtained a legendary status in his time as a pro footballer.

So tell me how what you are writing up there proves delusion?

Mikel leaving Chelsea was not the point. If he was leaving Chelsea to a big club, will any of them sign him as a creative midfielder? No. The question is, why?

In his formative years as a pro footballer, he signed a long term deal with Chelsea and was developed only as a deep defensive midfielder.

That was the time he would have been developed differently.

Also, there is a big role played by managers who genuinely believe in a talent. This was the role Pellegrini played for Iheanacho. Converting him from a creative midfielder to a creative striker. Which was due to his work with Vieira at City academy.

You miss that and it can affect your whole career.

Ferguson believed Mikel more than any coach. Not even Nigerian coaches and Mourinho robbed Mikel the opportunity of growing with that affection in his formative years.

So please, can you point the delusion?

Exactly. Ferguson saw a replica to Scholes that would form a twin partnership.

Ferguson loved everything about Mikel.

During the saga, I watched on MUTV how Ferguson flew repeatedly to Norway to convince Mikel not to accept the Chelsea deal.

Rumors have it that it was beyond footballing terms. There were forces behind Mikel not going to Manchester United.

Mikel even pointed out that after Chelsea beat Manchester United in the FA Cup Final, Ferguson still told Mikel that he would play for him.

How Mourinho robbed Mikel of such love from a top coach is heart breaking.

I really hate remembering this Mikel issue. It pains me.

Certainly Essien was a brilliant talent but Mikel eclipsed him due to his longevity. I also would rate Mikel ahead because he was more stable at the back. Essien left lots of gaps tactically. The injuries also.

But it takes nothing away from the brilliance of Essien.

He can outrightly blame conte. He just resumed to work. His first day at work someone is already asking for permission to leave... But he should have handled it better by talking to him. And I think pressure from the club hierarchy made him change his mind to call him and have a word with Mikel in his office but Mikel already felt bad about the whole situation...
