Anyone's had their visa approved for Fall?

It's quite early for visa approvals for Fall. Except if it is between 120days of resumption.

Hi pals,

This information is for those planning to change status from F1 to GC after or during their study.

* Yes, marriage works but don't do it because of paper. You don't want anyone to make you feel indebted to them for the rest of your life. And most importantly, avoid marriage fraud.

* If you're confident in finding a company to file H1B for you and certain about job security. Go for it!

* The third is a route that many Nigerians with highly sought-after skills aren't taking advantage of. This is the self-petition Employment-Based (2nd preference) National Interest Waiver (EB2-NIW). With an advanced degree (Masters), verifiable work experience (references), the ability to research and spot an area where your skill would add value to the US economy (find a problem and propose a solution), then 10 years GC could be yours. Being an author of published research article(s) in your area of interest is an added advantage but not required.

The additional criteria(critical), which the petitioner would write in the form of a justification letter, are listed below. (AKA, the three prongs)
* The proposed endeavor must have both substantial merit and national(US) importance.
* You are well-positioned to advance the proposed endeavor. (You have the skills required)
* It would be beneficial to the United States to waive the requirements of a job offer and thus the labor certification.

Your problem definition and proposed solution = the Proposed Endeavor

More information can be found here ---> https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/permanent-workers/employment-based-immigration-second-preference-eb-2

I may have to write and share a detailed process with samples via a dropbox link later. However, anyone who is interested in the third option can find detailed processes and samples online with little research.

I wish everyone success.

I love how you've been able to help people answer difficult questions on this forum. I will be going to the USA for fall admission and full funding but this appointment date in Lagos January 22 will be too late and I might lose my funding. Should I be worried or there is away around it? My I-20 should be ready by April latest. Thanks a lot.

More dates in Lagos will definitely be opened for fall from April, since your I-20 will be ready next month, there is no need to fret. By then more dates should have popped up. If it doesn’t, you will have to request for an expedited appointment.

Thank you for your response. Sorry this might be a little long. Now that I have booked Abuja, is there a way I can keep an eye on Lagos available date on my portal?

Also, the date that I booked for Abuja is July 27th and my program starts September 12. Which means the date falls within 60 days of my start date.

Considering the fact that I base at Ibadan, I am wondering if the stress of going to Abuja is worth it since I can basically book that same date at Lagos through expedition right?

Thank you for your response.

I’m not sure this is the best advice, but you can open a new cgi profile(there is no need to fill details of the profile) so you can have a personal access to check available dates in Lagos as opposed to waiting for someone to inform you when there is an available date.

Also, is there any part of the visa appointment I can start while I am still waiting to get my I-20? I just want to be proactive. Thanks

You can start filling your ds-160 form.

Thank you so much for this.
I've been racking my brain on how to go about certain things. I intend to apply for winter program but I am married and I have a baby... he's going to be a year and 3 months by January 2022. A friend told me to apply for F1 Vvisa, and that I might have to leave my child with my mom for a few years. She said it'll be an evidence that I have strong ties to Nigeria and that I might be not be able to cope with the cost of daycare etc. I read of someone here that was rejected Visa because she didnt make adequate preparation about her children's s schooling. I am so worried. I don't want to leave my child and at the same time miss this opportunity.

I suspect some foul play cos it's rare for a r1 university to give PhD admission without funding

It is well. I mailed my program coordinator last week to ask about the funding and she said they are yet to start reviewing the applications.

Hi guys

I just heard from a friend that for USA visa interview, you don’t need bank statements. She said she heard from a friend who went for her interview last week.

She said the bank would give a code or something like that then the embassy contacts them directly.

Please how true is this?

I will advise you go with the printed copy of your account statement. The US VO doesn’t have the time to be downloading you statements of accounts during the interview. I know someone who got denied a B1/B2 visa because of this.

I also think the banks are not being fair with their adverts on this. It is misleading.

Hello people,

I finished my master program on scholarship here in Turkey and i have just been accepted into the master program at Georgia State University for Fall 2021 with tuition waiver and graduate lab assistantship position but with a meagre stipend (not upto my expectation).

I have upto 1 month to decide to accept or not because I still have about 8 other pending decisions from other schools that I am waiting for.

I guess I should wait for a school with better offer. What do you guys think? Anybody with any idea about this school? Is it a school with good reputation?

Hello, I will advise that you send a mail to an admission officer for the program. They will be able to update you on the status of your application.

While you can take the GRE test again, I have seen students with less score admitted with funding for MS and PhD.
Considering the term you wish to apply, you have enough time to explore schools that will offer you assistantship--either with your current GPA and GRE score or better score. Do the school search first as that will help you determine what if your profile is fit. Once you have a list of potential schools, for example, 10 universities in states you like their weather, etc, you can take it from there.
All the best!
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by mulero23: 6:59am On Mar 27, 2021
Accept this first... Because of covid, schools are lean on funding for next fall. A breast at hand is better than the two in the bra! Besides, GSU is a good school and they don't give much stipend but the location is great.
