The liberal ones are dishonest.

They like to pretend as though we didn't read the Bible.

Hmm..how?

When I say liberal, I mean non-practising

Fundamental Christians are honest.

Liberal & non practicing (not the same) are confused.

I hope you do not mind. A post as educative as this deserves to be more widely read.

eomajeh:
fine discussion....

But i as i go through it, the only conclusion in sight is that "religion divides".

I see persons who call themselves true christians vilifying a fine christian woman who has been a model wife in a happy marriage for 7 years. To these persons, her crime is marrying an atheist. Some of these persons quote verses in the christian holy book to justify the concealed enmity they have towards others not aligning with them in faith, especially atheists. Is this not the same as Muslims calling others not aligning with them in faith as infidels? Know that they also quote verses in their holy book for justification.

If we look at one another as individuals, and really respect one another, we really can live together irrespective of our religious differences. And for those concerned about the children of the union, know that atheist (at least my kind) don't go proselytizing. I teach our kids to have an open mind. I remember my girl once asking me whether I or mummy was right about the god subject; and my answer was why she thought either of us was right. Trust me, the little girl has been taught more christian stuff than kids in many all-christian home. But importantly, she's learned to avoid some fallacies, such as the fallacy of false dilemma.
daddy may like rice, and mummy may like beans, but she can like either or neither. That's up to her. We don't teach her what to think; we teach her how to think.

So please, stop all the enmity (whether overt or concealed). Respect one another's (especially your partners') taste/ preferences. Don't see your taste as superior. Don't force your taste on others. And you'll find that just as a rice-person and a beans-person can be successfully married, so a christain and an atheist can be successfully married.

For dating, liberal. For discussions, fundamental.

Some atheists and agnostics can be very good people, more so than Christians. That said, in terms of a longterm relationship, religious compatibility is important.

@OP/Milann, you should change the title of the thread to "Would you date an atheist?" to get more replies.

In fact they're the best. Religion is more of a curse than blessing.

Can two walk together except they agree? No. Your Faith and beliefs will definitely contrast and clash making the relationship an unhealthy one.

Once I find out he's an Atheist, I'll stylishly cut off from him because the Bible says I should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers; which this sorta relationship is all shades of. So, I'll gladly and joyfully pass.
But when it comes to that aspect of the Bible that says "keep your virginity until you get married" you ain't gonna quote that. Highest form of hypocrisy is in Religion

Pastors Bleep church members and yet some dumbass still patronize them. Islam gave birth to Jihadist and yet people still follow the part.

interesting. i am interested in your story.
1. were you born an atheist? if no, how did you become an atheist?
2. if you are no longer an atheist, what God so you subscribe to and why?

you are right that liberal christians are confused. I agree 100% why? because christianity requires you take a solid stand with the full expectations of the religion, you cannot be on the fence as a christian. so homosexual christians for example are confused set of people cos need to twist the scriptures to support their liberal belief.

you say fundamental christians are honest, well to a large extent, but only when it comes to validation of their religion. are they honest about the problems of their religion? Absolutely not, they are extremely dishonest when they must defend their religion and only honest in matters that validates them or their religion.

The honest atheist, holiness is what makes you see God. You can be honestly wrong/broke, but wrong/broke nonetheless.

Really? So everyone who reads the Bible must believe the same thing even though we all have different abilities/capacities with which we understand what we read?

Then you better tell me where God is so I can ask why the fuq there's a brain in my head if I am not expected to use it!

budaatum:

You are very dishonest! The first few minutes of this video already challenged your ignorant portrayal of all Muslims around the world being the same, but you shamelessly claim all Muslims are the same all around the world! Are all Muslims boko haram where you live? Are there no Muslims in your family or your neighbourhood for you to see that not all Muslims go about killing others?

I am very very dissapointed in you Hardmirror but not surprised, since you made the same claim against Christians, and in a thread where Christians clearly showed you that they don't all believe alike!

Do know that I will post this where your peers will see it. That is the level of my disgust at your ignorance!

To everyone else, please see below my response when this individual made the same ignorant claim about Christians!

And know hard, I still immensely love you.

Re: Would you date an atheist? by eomajeh: 7:37am On Aug 13, 2021
many people will say "No, never marry an atheist". Reason? what value will the atheist partner teach your kids.
somehow, these people think a religious person = good values, and that an atheist = bad values.
Fact: values has nothing to do with your faith.

using the "values" narrative is simply coming from a pace of ignorance. Some religious persons can be embodiment of goodness while others can be just "trash", so it goes with atheist.

Going back to your question, can you marry an atheist?
I'll ask can you marry someone who prefers rice, if your preference is beans?

If you'll hate that your partner likes rice and not the beans that you like, do not marry a rice-person.
If you'll try to suppress your partner's like for rice, and force your like for beans, do not marry that person.
if you will see your partner as wrong for his/her rice preference, then do not marry that person

In the same vein,
if you will hate that your partner's unbelief, do not marry that person
if you will try to suppress your partner's unbelief and force your beliefs, do not marry that person.
if you will see your partner as wrong for his/her unbelief, do not marry that person.

If there's mutual respect for each other and each others' "beliefs", and you both create room for each other to express your beliefs/ unbelief, and no one represents his/her belief as superior and the others' as inferior... there is no reason why you two can't be a happy couple.

No, i'm not spewing theories. I talk from a place of experience. I have a happy home (Atheist + Christian); we've been married for 7 years; we have a lovely daughter. Yes, she knows very much about mummy's heavenly father called God. She also knows that Daddy does not believe there is a sky daddy.
she's just not taught that mummy is wrong or right, or that daddy is wrong or right. She understands that Daddy likes beans, and mummy likes rice, but it doesnt mean either of them wrong. She doesnt even like rice or beans, but prefer yam and eggs. Will the fact that her preference is different make her wrong/ foolish? No.
