Shouldn't it be obvious by now that Lukaku cannot thrive in every system? Conte plays direct quick football. He therefore needs a strong striker who plays mostly with his back to goal so as to link up with the second striker. He has Lukaku and Lautaro for this. He had Costa and Hazard at Chelsea. Morata couldn't do this, that's why Conte fumbled.

The system relies on a strong center forward and a technical supporting forward. The ills of this system is that it is often one dimensional and can easily be thwarted.

Chelsea no longer play such football. Our priority is to play beautiful possession-based football which requires a combination of technical and mobile attackers. Attackers who can mostly play anywhere across the forward line. The purpose is for the team not to be one dimensional and very unpredictable.

Lukaku's skill set does not compliment this style of play. That doesn't mean that he is not an excellent striker.

Yeah stylistically Jones will pose more problems. I was talking more of Lewis being a legit power puncher as well that might be the greatest test of Ngannou's chin yet.

If the next opponent is Jones then Ngannou had better get back to the gym to work even more on his grappling, takedown defense and kicking. His punching will take care of itself.
