Well the HR person lacked phone etiquette from my own opinion. If you call someone the first thing to do is introduce yourself before going further into the conversation.

HR personnels in Nigeria lack professional ethics they just feel they are important cause they interview people and you need a job.
I'm tempted to insult you but i trust, you'll get that sooner or later.... FYI its their job and its supposed to be like that to test your composure.

Feel free to insult. It's a freedom of speech and it won't affect anyone but yourself.

Well, go on YouTube and watch how HRs from other countries behave and test it against what happens in Nigeria.

Imagine going for an interview and they make you wait for hours even without an apology that is inhumane and unethical.

It's as if some of you didn't read the OP.

The lady picked the call without saying HELLO then asked WHO IS THIS? Before getting a reply the proceeded with HOW DID YOU GET MY NUMBER?

Then the HR, obviously confused asked if he is speaking with Miss xxxx?

Then she didn't answer the question rather she threatened the gentleman and ended the call.

Let us not justify bad manners here, the lady is totally at fault. Let us be guided abeg.

I get calls from recruiters too and what they normally do is to introduce themselves after making sure they are speaking with the applicant.

If you don't want call then stop giving out your numbers. Give email instead.

Next thing I heard was yes what do you want? Wetin hqppen. Abi weyrey leleyi ni? I just replied sorry ma and hung up. Nack am solid blocking. Somehow she realised who I was and called back with another number. Once she introduce herself I dey hangup and block. It takes two to tango. Make she carry her winch go another place

Bros, you suppose curse her generation before dropping the call.

It's just so funny how some of these women feel too important. Funnily enough, they can't even say such to you face to face.

This Bullshit is just too common with women. Even if it's someone interested in you then find out first before behaving like animal.

Making applicants wait for hours is another discussion for another day.

I still don't get why you are dearly defending the mannerless lady. The HR in this scenario has done absolutely nothing wrong.

Why do women even do this shitt? What do you guys gain from being rude to strangers on phone?

The HR person is at fault I am in HR and because of these kinds of reactions, I usually start my calls by introducing myself first so the other person knows who is calling and is at ease. He could have simply said "I am John D calling from bank. That wouldnt hurt. That said, the lady should have been cautious as a job seeker that was just interviewed and expecting phone calls. Lets call a spade a spade please.
How do u feel calling some and she didn't even say hello? employing such person into your bank, have you think about the implications on the bank?
she is at fault!

Most ladies are like dat.
I got a Job through phone interview just because I was polite and I even had to call back the HR when her call card finishes.
It was later that I discovered she intentionaly hang up the call to test me.

She lost the job because she believes every unknown male caller is a "chyker". There you have it. They always think that every man who calls them is after their vagina. I hope she enjoys her stay in labor market for some more time. grin

A lady I referred for a bank job in the first week of June got a call this morning to resume work at an Uyo branch of the said commercial bank. She was fortunate to be among the few applicants that were shortlisted from among a large pool of graduates who got interviewed for the jobs.
No, but she won't be resuming!

She finally lost the opportunity because of a phone call.
She had received the call in the early hours of today, 10:00am precise. It was from the HR department of the bank.

But she didn't say "hello".

Her first remark when she picked was "who's this?"

Before she got any other reply she added "how did you get my number?"

The HR person goes "Am I speaking to Miss xxxxxxx?"

She felt the question is unnecessary! And she gave her final response.

"Please if you don't want to introduce yourself get out of my phone" that was her final word!

I got a feedback from the HR by 12noon today and I listened to that conversation. Those kinds of phone calls are always recorded for reference purposes.

Aunty lost the job because she lacks Phone Conversations Etiquette! I listened to the recorded version of that conversation.

She lost the job because she believes every unknown male caller is a "chyker".

You see? After all it's not always because HR people are "despicable" as they have been labeled by Nigerians!

Why would a Homosapien answer a phone call like this in the year 2020AD?

Watch out! Your next phone call might be your breakthrough! But your ill-manners could cost you the miracle

Which HR you guys dey do for Nigeria? When HR call the 1st thing tney do is introduced themselves and reasons for calling befor proceedings to am speaking to mr xyz if you day yes you are my xyz next question is to confirm your name, address etc if it matches what's on your cv.

Either the HR person that called is not trained HR assistant or your story is not true.

I come in peace

When she spends time and energy fasting and praying, she will learn phone etiquette and people skills.
Some people think is just to carry degrees about without self developing themselves. She go learn.

Bros I'm a qualified HR personnel, HR do not speak like that on the phone. The first thing you do is introduce yourself as HR personnel because the person (talent) you're calling may not have your number

2) after introducing yourself and why you are calling you can even ask if the talent is free to talk now or he or she want you to rearrange the call also you must be apologetic you are sorry for calling without notice etc.

I have friends in naija that are HR assistant they behave professional that HR personnel was not professional that is why i strongly believe the story is fake.

Tell your HR that she'd land another job.
The job she was to be offered is not her final trial in the job environment.

Why won't the HR introduce him/herself first?
"Who is this, please", is a very common question, when an unsaved number hits your cell phone.
Your HR ain't God.
Another opportunity will suffice.
Please b guided.

Plentiful oil dey your head.

Typical of the present generation. Providing baseless justifications for unacceptable behaviour.

Some people even referring to scammers as an excuse to be rude. Can anyone scam you just by calling you when you are completely sane? You have to provide the wherewithal to facilitate a successful scan.

I have been involved in phone-in interviews which became more popular with the pandemic of last year and Zi can tell you for free that many Nigerians parade degree certificates with nothing else to show for it.

For your information at the first stage of the interview which is usually just an attempt at whittling down the number of candidates to a manageable proportion the interviewer has a specific time frame to deal with each candidate.

In order to assure you that he knows you properly he is trained to call you with your full names as reflected in your CV. If you are a smart person you can immediately tell that he knows a bit about you. He will then ask you to confirm other info on the CV you presented.

But in instances where you are recruiting a frontline or contact staff, you are at liberty to toss the person around in order to unveil his/her temperament when caught off guard. In this case, the lady messed up big time. It could have been handled much better than what was reported here.

Pls note especially our ladies, it is important that you try to be as polite or at least civil during your phone interactions. You can never tell who the person is and what greatness he can bring to your life.

And for those who don't pick calls from callers not registered on their contact list I feel it is rather small mixed if not outright foolish.
