It matters. If you check the Wikipedia image it states "story".
2 Story = American, 2 Floors (1st & 2nd)
2 Storey = British, 3 Floors (Ground, 1st & 2nd)

hakeem4:
a storey means from floor to floor or floor to roof.

A bungalow is a one storey building because it consists of only one storey (floor to roof)

A duplex is a 2 storey building and one suspended floor (dpc to first floor then first to roof) that’s why it’s a two storey building

British or American naming.

British named their ground floor as ground floor whilst the Americans call it first floor. This doesn’t really have anything to do with storey.

I think you’re mistaking floor for storey!

G+1 is a 2 storey building wether American or Britain
The only difference is Britain calls it ground floor while Americans call it first floor.

But storey is from floor to floor or floor to roof.

Make I join the debate.

A bungalow is a single storey with ONE floor: the ground floor.

A four-flat and duplex is a double storey with TWO floors.

But in Nigeria, four-flat or duplex is a storey building.

So if one says in Nigeria, I want to build a storey building of four flats, that's an UPSTAIRS with two floors.

Architects in the house, what's the professional term?

A bungalow, in the USA at least, could be two floors. The second floor is typically very small, comparatively.

You’re right! The Nigerian term is wrong! If you go for approval they’d tell you to rename it.

I’m a civil engineer

In the UK that's a Chalet Bungalow. But it's still a single storey building. Like Hakeem4 said, if you name your approval plan as a double storey, the council here will reject it.

Good morning house. Please I did my decking on the 3rd of February and had about 28 bags of cement left which was covered with nylon to prevent water/rain.

My question is how long can it be kept for before usage as it’s what I intend using to continue the upper floor but still gathering funds for that purpose.

Does it expire sort of and how much more time do I have ?

Thanks In anticipation.

Just know it hardens over time. Maybe you should find something to do with it, like plastering.

But you’ve a grace of 6-8 months

You fail to include
Type of roof?
Kitchen cabinet HDF and marble?
Window type casement?
Tiles type Nigeria ?
The post that you quoted was made six years ago, i made clarifications later in the thread, roof type is old school zinc or longspan aluminum, kitchen cabinet would be plain wooden tables and wall counters while Windows would be plain old school glass louvres. tiles would be pvc wood like tiles on cement screeded floors. No visible pillars etc. i still want to try this in the north but the current insecurity in the state is keeping me away.

hello guys, Please Can you help with a solution to these cracks on my fence, they appear where I casted pillars with Iron rods so am surprised. I decided to chisel the cracks and fix wire mesh but it still cracked. is there a filler I can use? N.B The main building has no cracks

I have to state it clearly that I do not possess any qualifications to advice on structural issues.
My advice is strictly on the cosmetic or aesthetic purpose.
Like I'm presently recommending to a nairaland client, I could formulate a rubber like putty with some limited level of expansion that would expand with little cracks on the wall.
It can't do anything to solve the cause.

You did not show exact position of the column , picture too close , no picture to show how the cracks look like before the repair..

Did u add any additional loads to be block after repair?

Did you do some ground works like interlocking etc,

Can you remember how deep that pillar is in relative to the top level?

Or just the reinforcement is place in same level at the topsoil boarded and cast..

It may be some settlement issues on the column part trying to settle fine since its not chain with the block wall it moves down a little and u notice the crack...

One of assumed solution if its what am thinking separate the strip of the block wall from the column insert a polystyrene in between and plaster back.

That's if you don't like the crack .but I will advise you to wait a little bit longer and study how progressive the crack will appear and the width measurements

Picture shows vertical crack
CAUSES
a. Lateral Extension
Solution is to provide expansion joint. Cheap fix is to fill gap with polystyrene sheet.
b. Differential Settlement
Solution is very expensive requiring foundation reinforcement or overhaul.

Where is the location? Is it prone to subsidence? Was it sand-filled?
Do you have soil strength test results?

the cracks only appear where there are pillars on the wall. so I chiselled and nailed wire mesh to the crack the plastered but it still appeared
