Good morning the Gazzuzzin!

I drive a Honda City "07, bought in February, 2021 as a Nigerian used car. Truth be said, I have never enjoyed the car one bit - it's problem-ridden. I have spent so much going in and out of mechanical workshops.
Now the car overheats like hell, engine vibrates like earthquake sites, the electrical..., etc.. I need help.

Can't use it for what I bought it for and it's so annoying. My major concern right now is how to overcome the overheating.

Thanks already!

Basic principle for checking overheating in this vehicle is very easy

1. Check air flow direction from cooling fans, and correct if wrong.

2. Check radiator is free from internal blockage and restriction of coolant flow. Replace with brand new unit if defective.

3. Check if thermostat is stuck closed and replace if defective

4. Check that water pump gives proper flow of coolant and is not leaking . You can inspect the blades if in doubt .

5. Ensure head gasket is not damaged and combustion finding its way into the cooling system. Replace headgasket if that is the issue .

Honda city if abused can be a nightmare you will never wake up from, when in good shape it's one of the most efficient vehicles I have ever used (2008-2013)

Replacing oil pump will not solve low oil pressure issues.

You have excessive clearance between crankshaft and bearings.

You need to do a major engine overhaul which will involve replacing the crankshaft or cutting it to next possible size and replacing bearings.

Engine replacement is even better than going this far nah

Not entirely true. The engine costs ₦300,000.

Repairs would be about ₦100k

My Corolla 05 makes a knocking sound when I put on the ignition with the engine oil light on. It goes off when throttle down and sound normal.

Also, the engine oil light blinks when car is idle or while braking mostly when the engine is warm and must have work for several minutes or hour.

I have just charged the oil pump thinking that was the culprit but the problem still persist.

What could have gone wrong pls expert in the house?

Please sir, I drive a Toyota Avalon 2004. There is this blowing (misfiring) sound everytime I tried to accelerate. I have changed all my coils, plugs, fuel pump and still the sound is still there. Picking up from rest is hard like something is trying to choke it.before it picks up.. What can possibly be the cause sir or any idea what it might be??

Good morning, Gazzuz.

What would you say would be a realistic value for fuel consumption per KM for a Toyota Coaster bus in Lagos?

Is a value of less than 4 KM/L truly due to traffic situation...seeing that originally, the vehicle is meant to do about 7 KM/L or thereabouts abroad.

Please, anybody with info should help...

See as everybody air me. cry

Thanks you sir.

Will changing the crankshaft eliminate the problem totally cos my mechanic also said I might need to change it and also do a general tune up on the engine

4km/L is fair. If you really want to now your fuel consumption, take the vehicle on the highway and measure the consumption. Please note that your mpg was measured abroad with an empty vehicle (no load), with the ac turned off and at a steady speed of about 55 miles per hour.

Getting this ideal mpg in Nigeria will be a herculean task.

I intend reverting the cooling system of 08 Accord. Came with double cell radiator, thermostat removed, Fans connected directly and I top it up with water like every 2 days, I see water drip from the around the cap and hose leading to the reservoir which I intend changing.

Kindly advice if I should replace radiator when doing the revert. How much is double cell currently?

Remember our fuel is no where any good as a product like the ones they sell in abroad. Tires and way of driving matters a lot.

Thanks Boss. I was wondering because sometimes I see values of less than 2.5 Km/L. That means I'll have to run checks like fuel pump and the like...and just like you said, pattern of driving matters too.

Thank you.

Just change the pressure cap ( radiator cover) and see if it still leaks.

If your car is not overheating, and no issues asides the fact that you noticed the anomaly. Save yourself the stress and your money. You might just be about to embark on the journey to wake the devil in your accord. If you are making the corrections yourself, maybe i will advise it, but giving it to people who did the Nigerian thing to it is calling for trouble. They will tell you, sheybi oga, we told you. Just like i am telling you.

There is an underlying problem with your cooling system and if you don't find the root cause, reverting to factory will not still solve it. I will suggest you start from the least which is radiator cover. Secondly check if there is any leak on your radiator body. Check your fans too. Once you get the system right, you can then revert to factory. Good luck.
