Moses Jitoboh isn't the next most senior officer( he joined the police force in 1994 while Usman Alkali Baba joined 1988). According to NPF website, he is only an acting DIG while Usman Alkali Baba is a full DIG. https://www.npf.gov.ng/info/contacts_mgt.php
Although one would have expected him to be chosen to be the next IGP solely because he is the only officer that can be considered for that post that still has more than 4 years of service(9 years). Majority of the rest will retire either in 2022 or 2023. Going by the new police act, he should be the next IGP and that is probably why Usman Alkali Baba is serving in an acting role( he was announced as acting IGP). The only advantage Moses has over the others is age and time left in service. Usman should retire 2023 and Moses will be the most senior NPF officer.

I would have been smarter for the administration to choose Joseph Egbunike for the acting position instead because he is the only one from the south east and that might delay things a bit though he too will be retiring next year.

Just confirmed that Joseph Egbunike was promoted from CP to DIG while Usman Alkali was promoted from AIG to DIG December last year. So Usman is actually his senior if that counts at all.
https://dailytrust.com/psc-dismisses-four-senior-police-officers

If we are to go by the provisions of the new police act and Moses Jitoboh is appointed as the IGP, What will happen after the four years tenure of IGP ends? He will still have 5 more years in service so will he be forced to retire or to step aside for his junotp become IGP while he is still in service?
The reasonable thing would have been to force him to retire but won't that cause another controversy? Will it be easy to do as there is currently no provision for such situations under the police act.

IGPs from 1999-2010
Musiliu Smith (1999 - 2002)
Mustafa Adebayo Balogun (2002 - 2005)
Sunday Ehindero (2005 - 2007)
Mike Mbama Okiro (2007 - 2009)
Ogbonna Okechukwu Onovo

All southerners yet no meaningful progress in the police force.

Of the 21 IGPs this country has ever had, 11 were from the north(including the new one) and 10 from the south yet the police force has never made any meaningful progress.

Of the 10 southerners, 9 are Christians, I do not know how many of the northerners are Christians or Muslims.

You want the government to keep sharing appointments based on religion and ethnicity yet you expect meaningful results. One day we will all understand.
Though I agree with what you say, but, you're quoting me out off point.

Go through my post again, make sure you read and understand what I wrote up there.

But if you still feel you want to keep on going this route, then you must list out the COAS that have been appointed from 1960-1999. You should also add their religion too.

We(Nigerians) have always have FCT ministers since 1976(or 1975 when ABJ was created, it was built with mostly oil money gotten from the Niger Delta) till the Seat of power was eventually moved to Abuja permanently from Lagos in 1991. Can you kindly list out the names of the FCT ministers we have been having since 1991-2021? You can also list the ones that have been the FCT minister from 1976 to 1991 and don't forget to add their religion too grin

We all saw how Onnoghen was dispose as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria even though it was initially vehemently opposed by the National Judicial Commission... Buratai was accused of stealing, there were even glaring evidence, but today, he is an Ambassador cool how about Monguno?

See bro, you don't want to go this route with me cool

Since GMB have been appointing mallams as IGP, have insecurity not gotten worst

Nah the weaklings southern politicians like GEJ I go still dey blame sha cool

when I read this story, I get the feeling that the Americans were condescending to the Nigerian intelligence community, refusing to share intel on time, and even when they did, they shared grainy photos with little or no operational value to the intelligence community, they was also mutual distrust between them.

Following the attack by Fulani herdsmen on Monday last week in Ebonyi State, a lady who survived the attack and barely escaped with her life revealed her encounter with Fulani herdsmen as she was interviewed by the press.

The lady identified as Mrs. Ngozi Odo-Abuchi is a 49-year-old widow and a graduate of the National Teachers Institute, she works in the Education Department of the Ishielu LGA of Ebonyi State.

She explained that she took an Okada on her way back home from where she came from, the Okada was to take her from Nkalagu Junction to her hometown Obeagu. On their way going, after they've passed the junction of Egedegede and halfway into the town. The okada rider was on top speed, he wasn't suspecting anything would happen and he didn't quickly notice the men putting on black who swooped on them, dragged them into the bush, and started beating them.

She said they were kicking and beating them with machetes after which they killed the okada rider. She said they captured other people along with her, they killed all the men and tortured the women with their weapons. She said some of the attackers took the nose and hands of the men which they killed. She said they were the first people they attacked before capturing other motorcycles, killing the males, and torturing the females.

She said she was seriously praying and calling on God, they told her to shut up but she kept on praying. She said one of them stabbed her with a dagger, the leader shouted at him not to touch the women so that they will go and tell their people that this is the consequence of chasing Fulani herdsmen out of their community.

He said they will take their message to Nnamdi Kanu that his Biafra and IPOB cannot stop them from operating in the South-East and South-South. He claimed all the heads of security agencies are their people and if they attack any Fulani person the government security agencies which are controlled by their people will go after them while they will come for retaliation. He said they will continue to do what they know best while Nnamdi Kanu rants on social media.

She said they collected all their money, phones, bags, and every valuable item with them. They also burnt the motorcycles of the people they killed. She said the abductors were more than 20 and they were all bearing Ak-47 rifles. They abducted them around 6 pm and they held them captive till nightfall.

She said the attackers told them that they're Fulani herdsmen and their attack on them is a parting gift. She said the herdsmen were told to leave their community as their cows kept killing their crops and they harvest their yams and cassava to feed their cows which resulted in hunger in the land. She said they were asked to leave so their people can go back to their farming work.

She said Fulani herdsmen told them that they're taking their lives as payback for their cows that they killed. They said any community in the south that killed their cows or attack a Fulani, their people in charge of security agencies would make sure it's paid for and they would attack the community.

When she was asked about the language which they speak, she said they spoke pidgin English to them and communicated within themselves with their language.

She said when they noticed the herdsmen weren't close by, they ran into the bush and hid behind trees as they were running. She said they spent the night at the bush before they were rescued by some villagers the next day.

There have been harvests of joy and
jubilations in Zamfara State over the
replacement of the Inspector General of
Police, Mohammed Adamu.

Residents who spoke to DAILY POST said
they are relieved that the IG was replaced,
as he allegedly did nothing to salvage the
state from terror attacks despite being a
security chief.

Aminu Usman a resident said the security
situation was worse under Adamu,
stressing that they had watched with keen
interest to see how the nation’s police
boss would end.

“In fact we were not happy with President
Mohammad Buhari because of the security
lapses in the country because he did not
put a capable hand there to handle the
security issue in the country as a whole”
he added.

“If the IG fails in his constitutional
responsibility of protecting the entire
country, nobody would place any blame on
the nation’s police boss but all blame must
go to Buhari because he has failed the
country by putting a wrong person in that
sensitive position.
He alleged that nobody wants to serve the
country with a sincere heart because of
the pursuit of riches, describing the
situation as a Nigerian factor.

He alleged that President Buhari is too
weak to handle Nigeria because he was
not behaving like a soldier, stressing that
the administration has witnessed more
killings than any government in this
country.

“Quote me, during the tenures of
Obasanjo, Babangida, Abdulsalami and
Abacha Nigeria did not witness such
bloodshed like the tenure of Buhari yet all
of them were soldiers”

“Then why should Buhari’s tenure be
different.

If I were Buhari, I swear I would
have taken the path of honour and
resigned before Nigerians would force me
out of the system because I am not
capable to lead a country that has over
180 million people.

“It is in Buhari’s tenure that Nigeria wants
to disintegrate.

The Igbo’s have since
made up their minds to go, now the
Yoruba’s, Middle Belt and the South-South
zones are seriously agitating to
disintegrate from one single entity called
Nigeria.

“It must be said that Buhari is not
handling this country constitutionally as it
supposed to be, there have been cries of
marginalization everywhere in the country.

Even the Hausa people are crying very
seriously that most of the positions always
go to the Northwest zone”

“Definitely we cannot continue like this
otherwise Nigeria would go into a very
serious civil war that can claim millions of
lives because it may not be like the Biafran
war that every segment of Nigeria joined
forces and fought the Igbo’s. This time the
pattern of the war will be so different”

He said that many people have been crying
for restructuring of the country, saying
that restructuring would never be the
solution to the problems of Nigeria,

”Even if Buhari likes let him restructure the
country one hundred times a day but
some regions would stand up and agitate
that they are being marginalized”

Isn't that how every sector is?? Look at the health sector now, the reason hospitals are non-functional is because we have doctors who have no administrative skills or experience heading hospitals. Hospitals should be headed by hospital administrators, it is a course in many countries but in Nigeria......

We are still supposed to be dependent in many sectors hiring foreign expatriates to train Nigerians while working for us.
Health sector for example, hire surgeons from countries with advanced health systems to come and do special surgeries in Nigeria while also teaching resident doctors. Same with engineering, administration, security and so on but pride and ego won't let us.

There was panic among residents of the Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday as the military bombarded the Ikot Akpan forest in the area.

The PUNCH learnt that the military operation was aimed at flushing out hoodlums who had been attacking police formations in the state.

Residents, who share boundaries with hoodlums’ hideouts, told one of our correspondents that the bombing of the forest started at 8am and ended at 12 noon on Tuesday.

The military exercise came barely 24 hours after gunmen attacked the Imo State police command headquarters and the Nigerian Correctional Service in Owerri, the state capital, where 1,844 inmates were freed.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Monday ordered security agencies to fully mobilise and go after gunmen that had been attacking security agencies.

It was gathered that before the military exercise in Akwa State on Tuesday, residents had been asked to steer clear of the Ikot Akpan forest suspected to be a camp of gunmen.

Residents said the operation began with the deployment of helicopters and drones for aerial surveillance and bombing before ground troops moved in to flush out criminal elements.

The Essien Udim LGA, where the Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio, hails from, has been under attacks by gunmen, who have been killing cops and destroying their facilities.

Recall that hoodlums, whom many suspected to be members of a cult group in February, this year attacked the police at the Ikpe Annang junction, where a police inspector was set ablaze inside a police van.

Also in February, they attacked Ikot Afanga community and killed an inspector of police identified as Aniekan, while a divisional police station in the LGA was set ablaze by the hoodlums. They also burnt police vehicles.

On March 31, 2021, three police officers, including a chief superintendent of police, Ben Ajide, were killed and four others declared missing in a failed reprisal carried out by the police against the hoodlums.

On Tuesday morning, residents, who had not fled the area stayed indoors as the military bombarded the hideouts of the criminals.

Fear gripped residents as fighter jets flew at low levels to ensure proper surveillance of the area.

Why has he not been prosecuted by the EFCC years after?

See, federal character must be strictly adhere to in everything. Have insecurity not gotten worse since 2015 the vegetable take over? If the vegetable is telling us only mallams are competent, then why is almost all the Northern states backward and filled with different terrorists groups from Zamfara to Borno state.

During the tenure of GEJ, Muslims groups in the North were accusing the military of giving admission to christians in the North states.

Please go through your list of COAS. There are about 17 northerners there and not 13

17 northerners
8 southerners
Thanks for the correction, I mistook some northern Christians as southerners because of the names (Teophilus Danjuma, Gibson Jalo, Chris Alli and others I don't know). Is the Christian-Muslim ratio correct?
My point isn't even about which tribes/religions gets which appointment but about having competent people in positions irrespective of tribes and faith if we really want progress.

Even the Nigerian president himself is a tribalist. Onnoghen had no case before he became the CJN, immediately he became the president, one useless group spring up and accuse him of corruption.

Northerners are heading almost all the important security agencies in Nigeria. This shouldn't be so.
Does federal character cover the appointment of security chiefs How can the security agencies and the military work ,when people like keep shouting tribalism Everytime

Those are different from what's presently going on with IPOB and ESN. In Zaki biam for example, it was a retaliation for the killing of about 19 soldiers by a militia group. What's happening today involving ESN is no agitation against the military. They got no business with the military, what they have business with is the fulanis and their rampaging herdsmen killing people on another man's soil. Biafra can't just sit and watch, that's why they set up ESN just like oduwa republic set up Amotekun. The ESN aren't killing Nigerian soldiers and will never commit such heinous atrocity.

How many law enforcement have been maimed so far? Do you really understand the job of the military? Fulani militia problem is a sub Saharan African problem, it is not peculiar to Nigeria let alone South east, infact we have had militia attacks in NW & NC more that SE, that excuse of picking up arms because of Fula militia problem is lame and baseless.

Agreed, it is the state's responsibility to provide security for everyone, however, the state will do that within the ambit of her capabilities, Nigeria hasn't provided Security for Bornu indigenes for 12yrs since their insurgency started, have they picked up arms against the state?
NW has nearly 6 active hotspots including Kaduna, have they picked up arms against the state?
You dont know what you are saying, very soon, you will understand that Fulani militia is a better enemy to the new one you just made, they are coming, you can cry Genocide later.

So DSS even alerted the CP of imo about the imo attack 48-72hrs before it occurred......
https://eonsintelligence.com/details/news-108923456/imo-police-command-ignored-dss-intelligence-on-the-attack-on-police-headquarters-1287553943

It is not the uselessness of the police that is even painting me, it is the stupidity of DSS. Who else did they alert when they got the Intel? Did they deploy their own men to protect the locations and fend of the attack? What did they do to prevent the attack from taking place when they knew about the plan? Why didn't they involve the military?. The director of DSS should be the next person to be sacked and it should be soon.

It will be very unwise for the government to fight back right now.... That is exactly IPOB's plan so that they can get the sympathy of the people and get more recruits. The best thing to do is to avoid them. The militants will soon start making mistakes and the local population that are sympathetic to them currently will soon start getting tired of them.
