The link is though you are an employee it is always good to have investing/entrepreneurship acumen. A good percentage of Shell workers could not maintain their living standard within 2-5 years after collecting pay off because they did not develop these skills when working. The priviledges they enjoyed while working did not allow them plan for life after work. Many took consultancy jobs to survive. Only very few opened service companies after they left.

This is my greatest fear as an employee. Hence the reason for aggressive investing

Mind you she also got a PhD from the US. So na management food give her the doctorate degree.

She has spent more years in the bank that the current CEO and the previous one, I guess top management have a phobia for female CEO. The board of directors of the bank is filled with men, unlike Access and GTB

Boss, Ahib is correct. I once worked with them. It is an open secret. She is smart still....a lot would not have been able to still pull their weight regardless.

Everything legal.

TBs, stocks, crypto, MMF, Bonds....sometimes, I think I overdo it. Almost 90% of my monthly income.

Yes, financial independence is very important to me. I have strong respect for entrepreneurs, it is not for the faint hearted. So let us be investing for now...

Nothing like overdoing when it comes to money provided you are not neglecting your personal life. Compound interest also applies to our actions. You are sowing seeds for your future (generations)

The most important thing is financial independence, if you can achieve as an employee or enterpreneur so be it, if you will achieve it through real estate, business, stockmarket, trading, fixed income Investments, manufacturing etc go for the one that suits your temperament, knowledge and education.

When one lives this life of comparative scrutiny, you may never enjoy your current life, one good thing with working with big firms, you get to enjoy the laws of economics of scale as fringe benefits

Take for example, electricity, Shell must generate lots of mega watts to power their drilling equipment successfully, the remnant of their power generation activities might power 3 local government successfully in Rivers state.....

Now a typical shell staff would enjoy 24hrs light in his quarters and be able to use any type of home appliance

I want to believe it is out of place for employees of shell to start thinking of how they would enjoy 24hrs light to maintain the standard of living they previously enjoyed

If you are hypertensive or hypertension runs in your family, I won't advise you to consider enterpreneurship at all. Investment is the best bet.

Go to LASUTH and see the rate young Lagosians are receiving treatment for hypertension and strokes

Quite true Sir.

I prefer the slow and steady investments win always

Many pursue money at the expense of their health......let alone investing in high risky investments that have high potentials of going south in nearest time

Seeing Okomoil plc financial report and the Chairman being on board for 29 years growing the company that now returns billions of PAT was a great lesson for me....PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.

Of course you shouldn't expect 24 hrs eletricity. But what i expect is that someone who got about N80m as pay-off not to go bankrupt under 2-5 years and be looking for contract job

For you to get an #80 million severance package, it must mean ur time input into company affairs must be very valuable so the company must have provided u a ride that is changed every 5 years, a comfortable living quarters, probably bursary for your kids education, to mention a few

If you happen to see only the perks company gives you and not your time input into company affairs, you might probably make the highlighted mistake

Anyone that collects N80m as retirement money from Shell was not a senior staff member and wasn’t getting the perks you are talking about.

Just avoid all those Chinese and India stuff. Go for quality German and USA standards.
For that you would need money which you don't. China and India will provide solar panels at a fraction of cost what US and Germany would do.

Some get up to N200 million ooo, bank workers are smarter with money compared to them.

If you have not been investing while working, N80 million won't do much as severance package when you retire. Such a person will lose the N80 million to scammers and Ponzi schemes

Severance pay and retirement payoff are actually not the same.

Severance pay is what one gets when fired or terminated by the company provided that staff was not terminated for misconduct. That’s why Mourinho enjoys getting sacked grin

Retirement pay is what one gets when they reach retirement age and the amount depends on the person’s seniority and number of years spent in the company.
Mutiu Sunmonu spent 36 years and retired as Managing Director of Shell. Ibe Kachikwu retired as an EXec Vice Chair after many years at Exxon Mobil. These guys’ retirement money na elele o grin
