Stockbrokers mainly is to give you a platform to trade stocks/equities or trade on your behalf. Dividend is between investor and the company you invested in with registrars as middle man to facilitate the record keeping and payment.

The collection of dividend is not part of the regular duties of stockbroking firms as stipulated by law.
However, individual clients can give authority to his/her stockbroker to do the chasing of dividends and that comes with a fee.

Then it seems people will continue to go through pain and hassle to get their dividends for a while as some Nigerian stockbrokers do not even offer the service of handling the dividend collection on behalf of their clients.

The process does not have to be this long which is why i said they could do all these through the broker who already has the necessary information.
Just empower them like it is done In some other countries to act as the intermediary in getting the dividend.

As an investor, i wouldn't mind ticking a box at the point of opening my stock brokering account that says the SB should take a fee for making sure dividends for every company is collected when due. That way i do not have to bother about who makes the payment and the processes/parties involved; be it CSCS, Registrars, etc

Well, one reason for the latest KYC Update between CSCS and Brockers is to enable registrars to get shareholders' information for payment of dividends and bonuses.

My brother leave that one. They have always have it. Even if you bought public offer you notice there is account number on the form why are they not using it. There are things beyond us here the ordinary people when it comes to unclaimed dividends.
Anyway efforts are on to make the whole process seamless but before then investors have to chase dividend themselves.

Good thinking as in a better organized and working systems but here in Nigeria it's not so. Do you know how many stockbroking firm has gone under? if such happens your cash goes down with them if after collecting your money and not invested yet.
Actually the process put in place is okay but the Nigerian factor ie lack of right implementation of rules and processes is the problem.

Why should investors always be chasing dividends?

Since is I started investing in US stock with TROVE, I get dividends paid regularly into my account.

By now you should know why - Nigeria factor ie Process implementation, system effectiveness and citizens (investors) attitude.

In all let's just hope for the best with the new finance bill and drive to get details of investors by regulators that dividend collection in Nigeria will be seamless in no distant time.

If they had come out when Japaul was @0.39, and said 'look I am hearing Japaul is doing this and Japaul is doing that so it might cause an appreciation in price...'
Or 'I think Japaul has hit its bottom @0.39 so I am buying...'
Not when it is now @0.58 then they come out with heroic tales of how they bought @0.39 or come out with some sort of analysis on why it should be going up.

If I were a bad actor, I won’t talk when people tell others to buy at a high price

GTB has lost 13% from three weeks ago when some people here advised others to buy and I shouted that they shouldn’t.

So now compare the dividend GTB returned vs the loss those who jumped in based on the advice are now in

You can criticize me all you want. I can take it
Truth remains two gurus in this group recommended a buy three weeks ago and I said peeps shouldn’t do it

If that makes me a bad guy so be it
The fact that I left their names out of my mouth says a lot by itself undecided

Your own na to just dey cry and make noise! Managers of these banks were buying at the very top but you come here daily to cry when the price drops a little.

While you’re crying, I and some other people are buying! Everybody’s investment style is different. My style is to invest for the dividends. While 11-15% yield may not be enough for you, it is plenty for me.

I am currently waiting for tomorrow to buy more Zenith. Slow down with the crying bros

Same here . I have had to reduce the Nigerian stocks that I purchase because of this stupid paperwork. I buy more foreign stocks because it’s more straight forward.

You don't get it.If I buy gtb at #33.And I get my dividend after mark down. And gtb dropss further from #30 to #28.If I don't sell, I don't think I have made a loss. That stock goes down and goes up is normal. As long as I have not sold is no loss to me since I know it will still go north. So why will I wait to buy at your assumed perfect price when is my money as long as the company has all the right fundamentals

Irrespective of what people say, NO ONE knows the lowest or the highest that a stock will be. So BUY and SELL at a price you feel comfortable with. It is your MONEY and you owe no one any explanation. Don't feel bad even if you buy at a higher prices PROVIDED you bought a GOOD company that is growing earnings, have good ROE and ROA and relatively good cashflow from operations.

Last year, Zenith was dropping from about N22.00. Some bought at N18.00 and few people laughed at them that Zenith will drop lower! They were right. Zenith did drop lower. It got to 16, 14, 11 and people still laughed at those that bought at those prices. They said they will wait till Zenith get to N5.00 before buying. They are still waiting!

Share prices go up and down everyday. If you are moved by the daily price movements, you will never invest.

Invest for 14 months...
Get an ROI of 41%
How it works:
* Invest a certain amount
* Get an ROI of 41% (no upfront)
* A post dated cheque will be given to you for your capital and ROI (Interest).

To get an upfront in ROI, ROI reduces to 38% and *Your Investment must be up to *1M*
*Only half of your ROI will be paid to you within 7days after subscribing.
* Other half will be added to your capital.
* A post dated cheque will be given for your capital and ROI (remaining half) to be cleared at maturity (14th month)

All our Investments comes with 2 copies of deed of Agreement and a post dated cheque for your cash back Contact : 08167679590 for more info

Very good investment case.

So if I invest N1m I get 38% upfront (N380k) so you basically collect N620k from me. So I am investing N620k to get N380k! waooooo

Can you briefly explain the rationale of paying investors 38% when you can easily collect a loan from the bank at less than 30%?

With this wonderful investment case I am sure the likes of Dangote must be elated with the opportunity to get 40% returns per annum.
