Mountains in Nigeria – An Introduction Mountains are amongst the most magnificent landmarks on earth. The very size of these natural monuments makes them a wonderful sight to behold and almost everyone looks up to climbing or hiking on one. Nigeria may not be home to legendary mountains like Everest or Kilimanjaro, but the mountains in Nigeria are just as awe-inspiring. Many of these mountains serve as tourist sites to Nigerians and foreigners alike, however, tourism is not the only activity that is carried out on mountains in Nigeria. List of Mountains in Nigeria Africa is home to some of the most significant mountains in the world, and Nigeria plays a part in that feat. Compared to countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria is not known for its mountains. However, the country is home to some amazing mountains, some of which include: Chappal Waddi Sherre Mountains Mount Patti Tsaunin Kwaiki Mount Dimlang Atlantika Mountains Sankwala Mountains Kumari Mountain Chappal Waddi – Taraba State Chappal Waddi is located in Taraba State, near the border with Cameroun, and is the highest mountain in Nigeria. To be more location-specific, this magnificent work of nature sits in the Gashaka Gumti Forest and Gashaka-Gumti Forest Reserve on the Mambilla Plateau. Chappal Waldi is widely regarded as the next highest peak in sub-Saharan West Africa after Mount Cameroun and Emi Koussi. The mountain stands about 7,936 ft. (2,419 m) tall. It is infamously known as Gangirwal a.k.a. The Mountain of Death. The height of this majestic mountain isn’t the only thing there is to it. It is also home to diverse flora and fauna that make the experience of hiking it one not to forget. Sherre Mountains – Plateau State Plateau State is known as the home of peace and tourism. It is also known for many things such as mining production, agriculture, and a combination of various ethnicities. However, few persons talk about how the region is home to Sherre Mountains – one of the most conspicuous landmarks in the country. Probably, the most interesting thing about this mountain is its set of undulating high peaks, the highest of which stands at 7,939 feet (2.419 meters) above sea level. It is the third highest peak in Nigeria after Mount Dimlang and Mount Chappal Waddi. Sherre Mountains is a regular tourist spot for hikers, adventure seekers, campers, and mountain climbers alike. Sherre Hills/Mountains... A season of G*lder Ultimate Search was shot there some years ago if I remember correctly... 2004 Alantika Mts... isn't that the home of those butt-naked Koma people of Adamawa State? And yeah... Kingjay007: Exactly the point. A state like Cross River makes money from their Obudu Cattle ranch - an amazing sight to behold. If other states step up, especially those in the northeast and north-central, tourism will be boosted. |
