and this friend of mine was locked up, charged to court for a crime he's guilty of.
so the day he was to be bailed in court, his both parents were there but cashless. then he sent his younger brother to meet me to help for the money he will be bailed, promising to pay back.

When the younger brother came, I gave my ATM card to go and withdraw any amount they need to bail the guy.

Till Date Mustpha haven't pay me this money.

I just have to delete his number from my phone to save my airtime from calling and asking for my money and also for my peace of Mind.....

I remember when my mom used to send me to recover money from her debtors (They bought garri on credit and promised to pay later) mehn Nigerians are funny and weird. One particular man and his wife will say "Computer make mistake for work, na him make them no pay me" sometimes he will hide behind his door and tell his wife that he's not around.

That's because they are poor. The money for the garri may not even be up to 800naira. They would have wished they never had to borrow

I have a terrible history with debtors. Let me find a way to summarise that.
1. I lent a brother 300k he paid only 80k and that was all.
2. I lent another brother 800k and he paid back 570k.
3. I lent yet another 1m he never returned even a kobo for over 3 years now. I have written the debt off. I have suspended borrowing brothers because they assume that I have much but it is not so. I'm just a contented person.

4. I lent two friends 9k and 5k respectively and they never paid back but never borrowed again.
5. I lent someone 455k and he paid me in piece meals (100k, 30k, 50k, 80k etc) in 4 months to the extent that I couldn't figure out what I did with the money. After I almost had issue with him.
6. A neighbour borrowed 99k and he paid after 3 months.
7. I lent another casual friend 99k for over 3 months he has not paid.

8. The one that pained me most is someone I barely knew well who called me and begged that he was in trouble that I should lend him 50k that by Monday (in 2 days time) he would pay back. I was not comfortable but I was thinking that he could also be of help one day. I transferred the amount to him.
To cut the story shot, he refused to pick my calls after few weeks. 5 months later, he was still not picking my calls. If I called with a strange number he would pick and once he heard my voice he would drop. I was over a thousand kilometres away from him. So it was almost impossible for me to travel to his place. Next thing I did was that I approached a court for a court order which I obtained against his account details.
Finally, I got my money reversed from his account but not until I spent 12k on the court process. He never called me even when he got the court notification till date.

Though, there are some requests that if u have it would be difficult to decline but I will be cautious going forward.

How were you able to get the court order against his account?

Your story is similar to mine. 50K too. Last year in the middle of corona.

Cos he has always borrowed and returned it, I didn't suspect anything...

I had just 100k left in my account split it into two. I had no hope of where the next money would come from. He promised end of the month or first week of April.

Since then till now, I have not gotten my money.

top of that, he blocked me and insulted my parents, said he will exhumed them from grave and deal with them.

In his mind, I can't do anything cos he thinks I am bluffing. Until when I will smoke him out from his hiding, he will meet me face to face and I will to whatever comes to mind that day.

I told him, I don't do phone or internet threat like he does. I requested for his new address if he knows he is a man but he has not given it.

He is holding on to an image of my gentility.. I go shock am.

I've laughed and laughed on this thread,
As for me, i don't wait for things to happen to me before i pick sense, i learn from people's experiences and i learn well, i only have 4 persons i can lend money to as i de like this and these people have like 80% of my trust. You see the rest of em, the 'I NO GET' is always so unwavering, always so resounding grin grin

As for them girls, i always burst out laughing so hard when they ask for a loan cos we both know they'll never pay back.
The 'NO' for them is always capitalized.
I'm even tempted to drop my signature below the No sometimes grin grin

Reading this made me feel funny. Why are people this way? Why would someone borrow money and then turn abusive when it's time to return. I cant remember being this way to anyone but im just thinking if anyone here that has written their bad experiences has done the same to other people.

Na so one guy wey i been dey date come borrow money from me for business, he asked for almost 500K, was calling my line per second during that period because of this money. I eventually gave him 100K (an amount I can easily forfeit). Immediately the money hit his account, he stopped calling my line.

After three weeks, I learnt through a friend that he has gotten married to another lady. Guy carry my money go marry another person. When I reminded him about the money, he became angry and started telling me how he regret borrowing money from me.
Aside from the loan, the guy was taking a lot of things from me to give to his secret girlfriend. Well, I have learnt my lessons through the hard way never to borrow or give any man, boyfriend or not my money.

Rule Number 1.

Lending a Nigerian money or investing in any of their investment scheme waiting for a return is like a wild goose chase.

Rule Number 2.

No lend at all, if dem vex, make dem throw face..

As usual lending money is most times disappointing. A Guy met me sometime ago and asked me to lend him 20k. I knew he won't pay back as promised because he didn't have any source of income. I just gave him 5k and told him not to bother paying back.
I can't lend what I can't forfeit. Recently a friend asked me to lend him some money to travel to Lagos for a job. This same was owing me some money already though not much. Since it was for a job I didn't want to be a stumbling block to him. Since be left for Lagos almost a year, he literally cut me off. Just for 10k o.
Just like Yemi Alade, I won't ever lend anyone money again.
Being debt free us really underrated

Never say that you won't lend people money again . What happens if you find yourself in condition to borrow . Just give away what you can forfeit as help. and God will always replenish you . You will now see wonders of God cause you will never lack .

All my borrow borrow don nearly reach -300k. Three of them really annoyed me including the last one in which there was this lady that was playing so nice to me and my gf. My mind told me she wanted to make a financial request, but I didn't see anything wrong in someone coming close and being nice if they needed future assistance (they might just be genuine people who need just that little assistance to get on their feet).

So few weeks later, she asked to be lent 50k for 2020 end-of-the-year chicken business with a promise to return the capital in 3 weeks time once she sold off her merchandise. However, I was broke and could only afford 30k, which she said would go a long way. So she got the money, did the business and decided to keep both profit and capital. At about the fourth week, I sent my gf to her, and she showed my gf 20k in her bank account and said she was expecting an inflow any moment so she wouldn't have to pay in bits. I gave her benefit of doubt...

Fastforward to now, I haven't received a kobo from her and she was even annoyed when I called her to express my displeasure.

Finally, I have written-off the debt sha, but she's the last person outside my nuclear family I will lend more than 5k; I have learnt from "friends" the hard way.
