So na so itsekiri people take turn the title "olu of itsekiri" to olu of warri. As far as warri is concerned, there's nothing like olu of warri. It is olu of itsekiri. Let them keep deceiving themselves by adding warri to the title

Itsekiris and Yorubas are inseparable... We both have ifa, ogun and umalokun. Benins have some too but got it from us.

Besides, Itsekiris don't understand BINI Language...

Come in Itsekiri is WA... What is it in yours?
Cloth in Itsekiri is ASHO... what is it in yours?
Family is EBI while people is ARA... What is it in Bini?
Food is Oje, Soup is Obe, Fish is Eja, Water is Omi, Oil is Ekpo, Dance is Jo.... I can go on forever.

Thank ORITSE for English and pidgin that Oyibos brought, Itsekiris would have been like Fish out of water in Benin city.... while they would blend in perfectly anywhere in Coastal Yorubaland.... Nigeria is the only place where some people will think they have the right to 'claim' others who don't even understand their language as if those ppl are a conquered or servile race, and yet everyone is busy complaining about Fulanis while doing the very same things in their backyards..... No wonder the whole country is upside down.

When you claim that because Benin is from the yoruba word Ile Ibinu, (which is a fact) therefore yorubas can decide who rules Benin or Warri, by that same logic Lagos is a Portuguese word, let every Oba of Lagos be crowned hence forth based on the consent of the Portuguese government of King of Portugal. Hope e make sense to you?

No. You are now comparing apples to oranges. There are no descendants of Portuguese in Lagos. But returnees with portuguese names form the ruling house. In the case of Benin, the Binis distinct from pure Edo are Yorubas are the royal family as ordained by Oranmiyan, and no one ever contested the ruling house with them.

In the case of Itshekiris, it is even more ridiculous since they are pure Yoruba with some mixed with Binis, mind you not Edos, blood

Let me even say that for argument sake you are right (which you are not, because that 3% is Benin royalty who are ultimately Yorubas who spoke Yoruboid dialects and hence how they easily blended with the Itsekiris).. The ruling family you are claiming have already made it known via a unanimous decision that Tsola Emiko is the Olu in waiting....

U mean Atuwatse 11 mother? If that's the case then Ayiri should calm down as there is already a precedence or. They should just find a way to solve this impasse abeg

I read a piece recently which is floating online and I tend to agree with it

Yorubas are now claiming Itsekiris is part of the Yoruba nation just because they want Itsekiris oil in case Nigeria splits come 2023 grin

My question for yorubas claiming Itsekiri is

"WHERE WERE THE YORUBAS WHEN IJAWS AND URHOBOS WERE KILLING ITSEKIRIS BETWEEN 1993 to 1997?"

OPC never condemned the killings - Afenifere was quiet, the Ooni turned Itsekiri historian today was quiet then - na now day break ? abegi grin

Cleary you don't get the facts at all. At the height of the Ijaws killing, the Ogiame then, father of the Olú designate sent emissary to Ife, covertly of course, and Yorubas responded. That intervention stopped the genocide. OPC were on ground in Warri and even took the war to Ijaws in Ajegunle and Ondo State. Pls ask those that knew.

The Itsekiri tribe may have yoruba words but you forget that the Ruling house of Warri which all Itsekiris proudly accept and gave the legitimacy to rule over them for centuries is 90% Benin

It was Prince Ginuwa, the Eldest son of Oba Olua and the sons of 70 Benin Chiefs that started the Warri Kingdom

That is why you have Chieftaincy titles in Warri like Obazuaye, Ologbotsere, Iyatsere (Iyase) Ezomo, Uwangue, etc - These are Benin titles so you can not remove the Warri crown from deep Benin roots and any attempt to impose yorubas mix to it waters down the sophistication of the tradition and culture of Oluship in Warri grin

The mother of late Ogiame Atuwatse II - the father of Prince Tsola was a Bini woman

The more reason history should be made compulsory in schools so confusions like this can be put to rest without much fuss

Watch my choice of words, I wrote Bini and not Edo. Edo and Yoruba are distinct people and civilisations. One from Odùduwà the other from Igodomigodo.

Binis are the remnant of those that followed Oranmiyan to Edo land plus the descendants of Eweka, the first Ọba of Benin. Since Eweka mother is Edo, most Binis are there4 with Yoruba and Edo bloods. Binis are Yorubas while Edos are not.

Incidentally only the descendants of Eweka can become the Ọba of Benin not any pure Edo.

Captain Hosa Okunbor is the father of Prince Tsola's wife. That same greedy Captain Hosa who was so divisive in the last Gubernatorial election in Edo State, sending paid thugs to attack the convoy of Governor Obaseki and Wike and others on their way to the palace. I do not expect the Oba of Benin to tell Ayiri to do what is right. The Oba is a good friend of Captain Hosa and he will want the son -in-law of his close friend and confidante to become King in Warri as this current Oba was the Royal Father of the day when Prince Tsola Emiko Married Ivie Okunbor in 2014

Chief Ayiri should understand that The Oba of Benin can not impose anything on him because tradition is tradition. Laws have outlasted Obas in Benin and just like no other prince but the first son of a departed Oba of Benin can become King in Benin, likewise no son of an Olu whose mother is not an Itsekiri or a Bini woman can reign as King in Warri.

Chief Ayiri should never allow anyone to blackmail or force him to surrender the customs of the Itsekiri people as very powerful interest groups outside the Iwere Kingdom are doing everything possible to water down the selection process. For once, I am supporting Ayiri in this matter - ATABRATA, DO THE RIGHT THING and do not allow anyone to confuse or control you, whether Oba or no Oba - Ooni or Alaafin, just do the right thing!!!!

I believe the itsekiris should do their thing. The only problem with removing that edict is that, the succession will now be thrown to so many families. So many from the Ginuwa ruling house will be able to contest the throne. That is the only problem

Even Bini is a Yoruba name. Same with Ọmọ no Ọba. Informed people know that Binis and Edos though used synonymously means different things.
Edos are pure race of the Igodomigodo or Ogiso people.
Binis are the Edos with Yoruba bloods, that is descendants of Oranmiyan a pure Yoruba Prince then and later an Ooni of Ife

Why is it that only Binis can become Ọba (another Yoruba word) of Benin if Yorubas are not the lord of the land?
The truth is that you are so ignorant and your ignorance stinks. this your ignorance is propelled by the fact that you guys don't travel outside your region and it is a mess for you guys, these are some of the reasons the igbos will always be a better group when compared to the Yoruba. The fact is the land and the people oronmiyan called binis do not refer to themselves as Binis in our native tongue but Edo. hence the need to educate you that Edos and Binis are one and the same thing. the name Benins are only used by the Benins when they are speaking in English for emphasis so you know the group they are talking about. it's just like different names for the same group . example omo oduduwa and Yoruba, easily one would know you are referring to the yorubas. The yorubas and the Benins do not have any relationship outside the monarchy. we are different people linguistically, "if I speak my language as an Edo(bini) whatever you call it and you hear I go die". the Bini monarchy is direct primogeniture from father to son, it is not adulterated and cheap like some classless Yoruba stool. I ordinarily would not have replied you but I have seen some level of stark ignorance under the sun among the yorubas about my people and I wish to correct it

YES - The law states that

1. The new Olu must be a direct son of the departed Olu - whose mother is an Itsekiri or a Bini woman
2. If the direct son is not qualified based on Rule # 1 - then the brother of the departed Olu who meets the qualification of Rule #1 is selected
3. If no brother meets the criteria of mom being Itsekiri or Bini, then an Uncle of the departed Olu is chosen
4. Anyone chosen to be presented to the Oracle must at least be a grandson of an Olu of Warri.

But all options will be ratified by the Oracle because there will certainly be more than one person meeting the criteria

This is the law that disqualified Prince Tsola Emiko in 2015 grin - Tsola did not meet the requirement because his mother is yoruba, that's it!!!!!

Point of correction
Oronmiyan could not stay in Benin because he never toppled it. It was Oba Ewedo a great grandson of Oronmiyan who successfully had a deal with the Ogianmen.

Oronmiyan left Benin in anger. Vexation because he was promised soft landing by the Uzama. Since he could not get he left Benin in anger. Yes Oronmiyan had a Yoruba blood in him obviously from his mother side.

We can keep the conversation on Oronmiyan

Can you explain what you meant by this cleverly worded statement? The yorubas and the Benins do not have any relationship outside the monarchy. What relationship? And which family can become Oba of Benin?

Edos and Yorubas are distinct but Binis are not! Let me humbly ask you this question, where are and what happened to Ifes those that left Ile-Ife with Oranmiyan and stayed behind to take care of his son Eweka and the descendants of Ọba Eweka.

If you agree that Ọba Eweka is a Yoruba man, then what do you call his descendants that till today are the only one qualify to become Oba of Benin?.

I even don't like to use Benin, a corruption of Bini used first by Oranmiyan, a Yoruba.
