This is similar to an old boy network whereby people get jobs and positions due to who they are and who they know rather than their ability, and in this case is the direct result of the Americanization of a European sport.

The first casualty will be the UEFA Champions League as people round the world won't be interested in watching Everton battle Valencia when you can watch Real vs Man City on the Super League telecast. Subsequently however, the national leagues will be affected as less and less money is generated (especially if the Super League teams are kicked out as threatened).

English Big Clubs have been complaining about PL TV broadcast revenue sharing formula, now they have the chance of making more money.
