Ilamina: So a swimming pool is your standard of luxury not the natural environment and architecture? Loyola was built in the 90's and had arguably the best campus at the time. Obviously, times have changed with newer, more modern architectural designs. But Beauty and luxury goes beyond modern architecture. Harvard was built in the 1600s and even though its buidings are far from modern, the campus still provides an ambience of style and class. This is literally how Loyola's campus feels like. Ive attached a few pics. Again..you need to visit 2 Likes

Ilamina: And this is only a small section of the school. The campus is huge, green and very beautiful. Olashore, atlantic hall, bells, whitesands and lekki british are definitely not comparable to Loyola 2 Likes |

NL1960: That's different |
Re: Who Remembers Loyola Je Suit school in Abuja, by NL1960: 3:18pm On Apr 23, 2021 |
Ilamina: It is not different. It is the rules and regulations of the catholic schools for girls to carry low cut. I know of some parents that refused to accept admissions because of this as they said that they do not want their daughters to cut their hair. |

Ilamina: That is what i normally tell such parents. With the transition to secondary at young age these days, plaiting of hair is the last thing on the mind of a kid that is trying to meet up with the high academic standards of the catholic schools. In these catholic schools, once you fail, you are told to repeat or withdraw. Most of these girls start being conscious of their hair in SS2 or SS3 and by that time, it is just few months to finish. |

Re: Who Remembers Loyola Je Suit school in Abuja, by Ilamina(f): 3:15pm On Apr 26, 2021 |
chinedumo: Why do you think, they tell them to cut their hair Also another reason might be, so they can concentrate on their academics and better things, than taking care of their hair than worrying about the new hair style They gonna have next week |
Re: Who Remembers Loyola Je Suit school in Abuja, by NL1960: 4:03pm On Apr 26, 2021 |
Ilamina: It is more of this. I have a daughter in a catholic school. Imagine having to gather girls in boarding house especially girls of 10 years in JSS 1 every weekend to do a particular hair style. In addition, in the catholic schools, there is morning mass every morning in the boarding house which means the average time they wake up is 5am as opposed to 6am in other schools because morning mass time has to be provided for. When will the girl have time to start arranging her intricate braid that she did?. 1 Like |

Ilamina: What was your daily routine like i.e time of wakeup to lights out?. Btw, christian school is not the same as missionary school. |
Re: Who Remembers Loyola Je Suit school in Abuja, by NL1960: 8:37am On Apr 27, 2021 |
Ilamina: No wonder, That is a private school and not a missionary christian school. Do they fail in that school?. What was the boarding like?. Iam sure it had flexible boarding like Mondays to Fridays or weekends boarding options. |

Ilamina:Ilamina, hi....Yes, I also agree with all you said about Loyola being in a class of its own back then! None other could compare with it, especially in terms of prestige and "geniuses" levels. Don't mind all those people here countering your statement. They just don't know about Loyola or they felt the schools they attended back in the days were inferior. They know the facts jare. I attended an American school at some point in Abuja, yet, the school couldn't give us that feeling that those kids in Loyola Jesuit College were having. We heard tales about their school , that's to tell you how their game had spread about. Then a few years later I left and attended a new school. We still had people who knew about Loyola and it's legacy. We spoke about them when we came together in class to just gist and chat about schools in Abuja. Then one day, there was a drama and theater Club excursion that our school was invited to at Loyola. OMG! You needed to see how pupils were jostling and begging to be included in the list of those who would go to the much talked about Loyola Jesuit College. Guess what? Lol,I used my influence in my class (we were in primary six then) and I got some girls to add my name to the list. I wasn't even in drama club, but I didn't want to miss that trip for the world! Then we went to their school a few days later, so elated, we all were. We met many other schools there with school coaster buses scattered all about the compound. It was like a carnival scene. That was my first time of ever seeing the school called Loyola in all its beauty. The ornaments and building structures were just beautiful back then. I took a tour , although not covering much of the vicinity due to time and the instructions of our teacher to stay close to the bus, not wandering off. We saw and spoke to few of these students whom we used to hold in high esteems. We saw them as brainiacs , and highly intelligent students. One of the boys who was a Loyola student took I and a friend sight-seeing and bragged a bit about how good their school was. He also told us old tales about witches /madam koi koi kind of story taking place on the school grounds. I was supri. It was fun though. Then it was time to say goodbye to them. We left for school feeling a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the opportunity to see the famous LOYOLA. LOL, you can imagine the gist we were preparing to go and share with other pupils who didn't come for the excursion trip. All this was like I'm the year 2003/2004 academic year. Have never seen the place again since then . I even forgot about it. Your post gave me feelings of nostalgia and fond memories. Even a whole Gifted Secondary School in Jos had respect for Loyola Abuja. They couldn't compare their school with Loyola. 1 Like |
