Nigeria Supplies More Citizens With Electricity Than Any African Country by Rosskiiku: 9:28pm On Apr 23, 2021 |
According to the World Bank, ''85 million Nigerians don’t have access to grid electricity. This represents 43% percent of the country’s population.'' https://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2021/02/05/nigeria-to-improve-electricity-access-and-services-to-citizens Mathematically this means that Nigeria supplies electricity to 210 million - 85 million people. = 125 million people. That is more than TWICE the number of people supplied by any other African country. It is nearly 5 times the entire population of Ghana. By sheer number of people supplied, Nigeria leads Africa by a mile. A large percentage of the 85 million without access are remote, rural northern communities, who need more inclusion in power expansion projects. But for now, NIGERIA supplies electricity power to MORE PEOPLE than any other country in Africa. |

lilvicky68: Go into Solar. This is an opportunity for folks to enter alternative, renewable energy. You will make billions. This is how we should tackle our issues. Stop seeing everything as only fixable by the government. WE can intervene to improve circumstances. |

lilvicky68: You should travel around the country more. You can't know how much infrastructure is being built by sitting in one place. For the first time in decades, you can now travel by expressway from Umuahia to Aba to Okigwe to Onitsha to Port Harcourt without experiencing bad roads. Smooth as silk. I'm telling you this from very recent experience. |

nedu666: Power generation is not the issue. Nigeria has generating capacity of 12,000 megawatts. What is keeping it from doing so is distribution infrastructure. Nigeria is building up distribution infrastructure rapidly, with the Siemens deal (which you've probably never heard of) set to herald a real transformation in our distribution architecture. |

The problem with power in Nigeria has always been a money problem Since 2013, power has been privatised. The problem with the privatisaiton however, is that the DISCOS were forced to in essence charge tarrifs that were not cost reflective...ie below the cost of power...with the result that the whole sector was not making enough money to fund improvements. So, as a result, power supply remains poor. Yes, 125 MILLION get power...but most get it for limited number of hours. The solution is simple...allow POWER to be sold at a profit. Also, the 40% of people who don't pay for power should start paying up. Then there would be money to fix power, and attract investment. For further reading read this PWC report from 2018: SOLVING THE LIQUIDITY CRUNCH IN THE NIGERIAN POWER SECTOR Pay attention to page 18 of the pdf document. But the problem now is most Nigerians seem to, and have always thought we should get power free of charge. That's what brought down NEPA, and that is what is affecting our power sector now...and metering everyone won't solve that attitude...people will just bypass the meter. MODIFIED...Here is page 18 from the above document

Igbochief001: What rubbish is this one saying? Government controls which price and transmission? If you want to learn how to enter Solar business, ask, and stop typing rubbish. You can partner with a manufacturer and sell solar panels, inverters, batteries at a mark-up, or you can set up as an installer of panels, or with good capital, you can go into solar product manufacturing. Buhari and the govt are not stopping you from investing in solar or renewable energy. |

Rosskiiku:Firstly I'm a mechanical engineer ...so I know this field more than you The biggest percentage of average people in Nigeria live in southern Nigeria , which is in the tropics , do your solar calculations for the sun's position you would understand it's not viable in the south Solar is not needed when we have excess gas Copy what obj did in otta and replicate it everywhere ...lay gas pipeline let individuals buy gas and build gas turbine Maybe in 50 years solar might make sense Stop saying things you have no idea about 1 Like 1 Share |

Rosskiiku:How many of those countries you listed possess the kind of Human and Natural resource that we have? Are we celebrating mediocrity because Buhari is on the throne? Or you are following his foot steps when he compare the Price of PMS in Nigeria to Saudi Arabia without considering the economic strength of the citizens in both country? In one breath we are giant of Africa, in another breath we are comparing ourselves to Burundi. Let's compare ourselves to fellow 'giants' in the continent. 4 Likes |
