Who was the better player in 2010 World Cup year, Messi or Sneijder?
Messi was miles ahead of Sneijder in 2010, Balon d'or is reserved for the best individual player and not necessarily the man in the team with most trophies (The trophies do count when it's a close call)...In that Inter team, Milito, Zanetti, Lucio and Eto ò were just as important and for the Dutch national team, their success was more or less down to a collective team effort. Sneijder had a great individual season but he was not the best player in the world...

All this shalaye is not needed bros. It's a World Cup year, according to you guys. Who had a better world cup, Messi or Sneijder?

I don't like twisting words. Someone said why Ronaldo should win Ballon D'or 2018 and you easy brushed Ronaldo's achievement that year because "it is world cup year". Why don't you use the world cup to judge Messi vs Sneijder in 2010.

If it was Barcelona that won the treble in 2010,will you call it collective team effort?

Modric was CR7s teammate. So going far in the WC plus FIFA corruption gave it to him.

If this basis hold water, then Fabio Cannavaro has no business winning the 2006 Best player of the year.

Modric was very pivotal for Madrid too and he went ahead to lead Croatia all the way to a 2nd place finish. You'd agree with me that Croatia aren't the biggest of names ATM so that was quite astonishing...

We are getting somewhere.

If Modric was pivotal for Madrid, was Sneijder not pivotal for Inter? But that's by the way first because "it is world cup year" so let's focus on world cup.

Did Sneijder not lead Holland all the way to a 2nd place finish? Where did Messi, the winner of Ballon D'or ended his world cup dream in this world cup year?

So what does thus your comment imply? Because it sounds contradictory.

"going far in the WC" means he merited it. "FIFA corruption" means he didn't deserve it.

Personally, Sneijder.

Man was phenomenal that World Cup year and it was a clear robbery he didn't get the award.

That Dutch team also had Robben, RVP, Huntelaar, Van Der Vaart, Kuyt amongst others and their run to the final was more or less down to a collective team effort and not necessarily down to the brilliance of Sneijder...How many people do you hear talking about Sneijder? But the world won't forget Xavi, Iniesta, Modric and Kross in a hurry...

If there's a player you must associate with the 2010 world cup, that one player is Diego Forlan and not Sneijder...

Why do you always talk about team effort when it's Sneijder but it's individual brilliance when it's Messi? The Barca team that helped Messi to win that Ballon D'or have a certain Xavi, Iniesta and Basquest, no? Did Messi do absolutely everything on his own?

Sneijder had a terrific 2010. No doubt about that. He was phenomenal all through the season, propelling Inter to a treble and took his for to the world cup.

Sneijder won joint top scorer in the World Cup, scoring crucial goals along the way. Who will forget his double against Brazil in quarter finals? Before then, he scored and assisted Robben in a 2-1 win in the round of 16. Fast forward to semi finals, he scored in a 3-2 win over Uruguay to send Holland to the finals.

Did you watch that final? Did you see his defence splitting pass that bought Robben one on one against Casillas that Robben somehow missed? That should have been an assist for him in the final.

In a 7 game tournament, Sneidjer won MOTM 4 times.... Pray tell, how can you argue that he didn't carry Holland on his shoulder to the final?

OK let's put stats one side because I believe stats don't tell the full story. Did you really watch Sneidjer in 2010? Did you? If you do, you will notice how he dictates the tempo of matches. His passing ability. His shooting technique etc....

Sneidjer met this same Messi in UCL semi final that year. He scored and assisted in the 3-1 first leg win where the tie was arguably won. What did Messi do over 2 legs? Sneidjer even went on to assist one of the goals in the final vs Bayern.

Guy. Don't even try to argue that 2010 Ballon D'or disgrace.

Sneidjer was clearly robbed of that award.

Messi stood out, whether scoring, assisting, dribbling or creating chances.

In the UCL, you could pick Zanetti or Milito or Lucio or Samuel or Etoo as the most important Inter Player and wouldn't be wrong...It's like the Chelsea team of 2012...

In the world cup, Forlan stole the show...Now, if Forlan played for Inter that season, he'd have won the world's best...Sneijder had a good season way above his standard and that's why everyone was hands in the air but he was not the best player that season, far from it...

At this point, let's just stick to our respective opinions as you’ll never see past the robbery of Sneijder and I'll never accept he was the best player in the world in 2010...

Seems Silva will not be the only senior man getting a new contract offer.

Chelsea will reportedly offer Azpilicueta a new contract, with his current deal expiring by 2022.

One or two? Personally, one is looking nicer, especially with the yellow socks.

Whichever design they use, I do hope they make use of yellow socks. That sh!t hits different.

Varane is our top centre back transfer target.

Haven't been too convinced about his form recently - he's been shakier than usual the times I've watched him - but he's still young and he's still class. He would be the long term Silva replacement if he comes.

Never been convinced about Varane ever. He is always the junior man to Pepe and Ramos. We need a leader in defence, we have too many followers apart from Silva.
