DECLAN2015: Medical practice is not about money but the joy of helping and saving lives. I have taken delivery of more 500 babies and the joy of seeing new born cannot be explained. It is also the job where I certify people dead, see their last moments in life.It is humbling. No other job is like that... Wives and husbands commit secrets they cannot tell their spouse or even a religious leader to you. With regards to money, doctors in Canada, US,Australia and many European countries are rich.Even South Africa appreciate them. Ultimately, the guy should not be forced. I studied civil engineering for 2 years and wrote Jamb again to study medicine because my parents suggested.I have no regrets. Doctors are well respected everywhere.I work in Europe and initially whe a black guy meets a white man acting funny, when they realise you're a doctor....everything changes. Only doctors respectfully have access to everyone's privacy as part of their job. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Medicine is a fine profession but not in Nigeria anymore. Nigerian government have rendered every course useless. Nigerians doctor are under paid, No good working condition for our doctors, all our government hospitals look like mortuary with ill equipped medical instruments and facilities. Incessant nation wide medical strikes Nigeria is just a useless country nothing seems to work perfectly. Many people you see today that are doing fine or not fine in any Field also have different kinds of degrees but the social economy frustration of Nigeria have left so many to look for other means of survival. The era of having paper certificate is gone now we are in the era of what you can do with your brain and hand 1 Like |

I want to put a little talk on this, first ask him why he doesn't want to do medicine, maybe he is afraid of failure, maybe he needs motivation sometimes in life the choices we want is nt always what comes for us but u gonna do the available one and make it a choice and see it working out. |

fostermd:Lucky u. I used to think I was the only one who acted this way. Especially been a female, African environment has a way of affecting ones mentality if you're a female pursuing your career, thats for those who allowed their environment to influence them anyway. I studied business admin for 2yrs , wrote jamb again to study medicine, I didnt get it cos of accreditation issues,I graduated with medical physiology, didnt stop there, took DE ,applied again, just got it. I don't intend practicing here , Nigeria got nothing to offer to doctors than stress ,delay and wasted effort. Medicine is just for those with the passion, else nothing would have made me pay so much sacrifice, not even the money been paid to doctors especially here in Nigeria. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Entayali: While growing up, I really wanted to study pharmacy but my mother insisted on Medicine and Surgery. Today, I have practiced in a number of countries and I am so grateful that she saw ahead of me what I couldn't see. Doctors are not the richest but they are way more comfortable within the average class of the society. You don't need to be intelligent to become a doctor, all you need is consistency! 1 Like |

There is nothing wrong in trying to choose a good Carrier part for her son, she meant well. How ever it must not be forced on him. Give him little orientation on the advantage of studying medicine. |

Even in Nigeria as bad as it may,all doctors are employed.never unemployed. Better still if they travel.out.All medical courses including nursing, pharmacy, laboratory medicine etc are all sought after abroad. UK and Ireland now have special visas and fast track pathway for them to relocate.Uk has currently shortage of 50,000 nurses. Canada gives upto $50,000 dollars in relocation allowance for any foreign recruited doctor with a average annual salaries of $250,000 to $450,000 Canadian dollars.I have colleagues who have their own practice earning upto a million per annum. It doesn't stop doctors from investing in other stuff. The chairman of Seplat Oil ,Dr A.B.C Orjiako is an orthopaedic surgeon and my senior in Medical school. I have colleagues who own huge multimillion dollar farms in Nigeria though based abroad, real estates, serialentrepreneurs, heavy investors in major banks and other companies on stock market with millions of returns yearly. You got to be broad minded. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Okay now see as economy bad, sapa don reach everybody side and maybe 70% of patients wey come hospital dey tok "doctor you be my personal pesin nau, abeg treat am, I go bring the money later", tomorrow I go, 2wks I go, 1month I go.. Abeg how dem go pay their staff, how dem go buy medical supplies, how dem go upgrade equipment, how dem go tek chop, how dem go provide for their family, mama & papa nko wey suffer pay sch fees, dept fee, faculty fee, buy textbook, feeding money plus miscellaneous, God bless sponsors oo.. See ehn, I no wan tok Federal Government own, I no get strength abeg.. I hope sey una get land sha as Nigerian leaders don tok sey if doctors dem no come work say FG no go pay dem shishi sooo if dem like make dem do strike from today til thy kingdom come enu gbe, make all of them go carry cutlass enter farm o.. This life ehn, e no balance at all at all.. After dem don work work work work, dem no pay but dem still dey threaten dem sey "no work, no pay".. Aaand na still dem no want make doctors dem go jand where they are very much appreciated, where all lives matter(human, plant & animals alike) smh Naija which way nau?! Like I said before, maybe no be for this Naija she dey orrr she has plans to send your brother abroad.. Anyways, y'all should sit together and really talk about this.. She shouldn't dictate the kiddo's future please, she should atleast hear him out and guide him on the right path, encourage & support him in whatever profession he'd love to take up.. He's a guy na, bobo sef go don know wassup so he'll surely be leaning onto something lucrative.. Make mumsy try dey calm down abeg make things no go spoil. |
