hello guys, I am Abdulkabir from Edo state, my journey into the world of trucks came about after a misfortune I faced, at one time I was a student in Uniben department of Animal science under Agricultural faculty, I left school without differing the admission to travel abroad, An Ill fated trip that got me touring the airport in Turkey waiting for my transit flight to Ukraine. I later got deported from turkey for fake visa and all my attempts to reintegrate into school proved abortive. hence I was left with either retrying to gain admission or find a way to fend for myself, so having decided to learn a vocation, I was interested in learning computer programming but funds was not available so I had to learn something more cost effective, other handy works I could learn required a certain capital and I was dead broke as I had been abandoned by my father who was my sole sponsor. so I had to look for a skill to learn, still be earning while learning and have a greater prospect of meeting up with living standards at its culmination. now I am a certified truck driver currently employed by Ardova plc. which type of trucks do you drive. I am fascinated by the size of trucks and will want to learn for fun, its will be nice controlling a monster

I learnt with a MAN diesel, but I have driven MACK and SCANIA trucks. its quite easy when you put your mind to it, especially if you know how to drive cars already.

where does one learn ?what is the cost and how long did it take you to master

antimason:
first of all you would have to have all the time in the world to learn it as you would have to be going to travel with your master (as the drive who is teaching you would be called by you), in most places its free to learn but recently some drivers have started collecting acceptance fees citing the laxity of supposed learners(also referred as conductors), you can master it from like 6months to unlimited years depending on your zeal and will,and also depending on the master, how willing is he to rush you in attaining the skill .

am a truck driver too, I drive for one of the multinational breweries company in Nigeria, have drive tata, man diesel, Volvo and currently driving mistubishi fuso..

why are truck breaks always failing, the case is common in cities, is it old age or lack of maintance. how safe are truck drivers from accidents

from maintenance sir,

there are two sources trucks gain their brake.

1, from air i.e the air must be fill up the bar before moving to avoid stories.

2. from the pad, which all cars and trucks used, but recent trucks used both. that both the pad and the air...

how do you cope on bad Nigerian roads and how long did it take you to learn?/are there no training centres or school, or its mainly informal learning

well, six years in trucking has not been easy, bad roads, tout, police or army brutality and so on... that's the negativity around it. but if you know ur way, you are ready to go...

school or training centres for trucks.. I don't think we have them except the one my colleague discuss earlier.

it's been Iong I learnt truck when I finish my ordinary national diploma with the polytechnic ibadan year 2009. after schooling, I became a conductor for 3years. though I stopped at a time and I came back after my first child in 2014.

get some lesson or download videos on YouTube on how to drive trucks.. it's fun...
