Dear folks, for citizens and PR holders whether residing in Canada on not, file your taxes by April 30! CRA won't extend filing deadline despite accountants' pleas The federal government has no plans to extend the tax filing deadline this year despite pleas from accountants and tax preparers who say the COVID-19 pandemic has made it challenging to make the cutoff date. https://www-cbc-ca.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5989881 Please share across your networks 5 Likes 4 Shares |

Hi everyone, Please, are those that landed this year supposed to file taxes? |

Passerby2: Pls file if you can. It doesn’t matter if you landed this year, all the benefits you are eligible for (like GST, OTB-if you are in Ontario, Canada child benefit etc) will be calculated based on your most recent NOA. If you have kids and need daycare subsidy, the caseworker will ask for your NOA. Personally, I think it will make your life easier. I don’t think doing it yourself will be ideal since it’s your first time but you can employ the services of an accountant or tax professional. I have heard of free tax clinics for PRs and Citizens (you have to find out about this as I don’t have enough information about it). 7 Likes 9 Shares |

Passerby2: You can't file taxes for 2021 in 2021. You can only file for the previous year/s and not the current year. 5 Likes |

NaijaCanadian28: Are you sure one can file taxes on an actual financial year?. I thought it is on a proceeding year basis. I tried to file my taxes this year but I was told by the member of the tax clinic that I can't file for now since I did not have a physical presence in Canada last year(2020) and was advised to wait till next year (2022) to file for the current (2021)calender year record. 4 Likes |

olasubomy: Hello..that was not what I meant, sorry I was not clear enough about it. If you’re filing tax this year, you will be filing for the year 2020 and you will be filing for this year in 2022. I’m not a tax professional but i have seen so many immigrants file taxes for the period they were not in Canada, I did it too as a new immigrant. There are benefits you will apply for that your NOA will be needed because that’s the only way the amount you are eligible for can be calculated. |

NaijaCanadian28: I did it too when I arrived and having an NOA really made life easy. However I don't think it's correct to do so and hence not sure it's advice to be given on a public forum. Also there's nothing wrong with doing taxes yourself the first time, it's really so easy especially if you have the right software. I've enjoyed using wealthsimple tax. 9 Likes 14 Shares |

Mayniaa:he cannot sponsor you unless you are married to him or he has a company that gives you a job offer. Canada doesn't work that way. 2 Likes |

Mayniaa:mr man you never ready travel you hear. Go and do express entry instead. One million is just a conservative estimate of the immigration consultant fees, there are still other fees to pay. If the so called man wants to help he knows what to do. The whole process is long and tiring. He has to prove he cant find someone in canada to employ too before government can approve the work permit LMIA. 1 Like |

Mayniaa: If either of you are serious, get an immigration lawyer and be ready to wait patiently! You should be asking google these questions, most people here might not have come through the route you are asking about and the ones that did might be busy, it would be difficult for them to answer your questions. So google and ask your suppose sponsor to ask questions too. 2 Likes |
