Mismanagement and Non chanlant attitude from the University. this made me remember Oluchi anekwe, a very beautiful and brilliant young girl. who was electrocuted to death in Unilag in 2015 right in my front. very unfortunate incident. students went to school to study. stayed in the school premises for security. but the same school will now fail them. Hospital doesn't call DSA before treating any student.
He died before getting to the hospital. The usual practice is hospital must inform school authority if any student dies.
The guy was in septic tank for almost 30mins .
There was delay in rescuing him and start treatment by medical response team at point of incident . Primary delay.
He was transferred to hospital improperly and got to hospital almost an hour after he drowned.

Remind me of when I was in school where the "soakaways" behind my hostel are so weak and covered with weeds, and if one is not watchful and careful enough and walks on top may fall in. Not too far, there was a fence that divide the hostel and the sport complex where boys do run to safety when there is gbege!

One night, cult boys gained entrance through the hostel main gate with some gunshots at the air to register their presence.

See as boys scatter, begin dey run helter skelter. Me wey don sleep halfway begin hear pounding footsteps jump commot for bed con dey run like fool.

As I ran to the back of the hostel where there are soakaways, my brain just rang, I just stood and asked myself why am I running to a direction where the risk is also high.

I just find one corner dey dey observe movement and how things dey go instead of running across soakaways that has the potential of ending one's time on Earth.

To answer your question. The soakaway may not be open but so weak that one's weight may collapse it.

A lot of questions begging for answers actually.

The Soakaway might not necessarily be open, it might possibly be a case of a weak Soakaway that caved in/collapsed/failed.
Most structures lack integrity, that they can hardly withstand weight, shock, vibration and other forces.
The weakness has been there over the years but unfortunately the poor young man happened to be the victim on that fateful day.

The school has nothing to do with the soakaway. It happened at the guy's hostel. Lautech is a non-residential University. What the management wants to investigate is the negligence of those people at the school's teaching hospital where the guy was rushed to.

He was not electrocuted. I'm sure you are getting the fabricated story. Some people are even blaming him, saying he is the cause of his death. Everyone is trying to cover up what really happened, they want to change the narrative. At least the doctors at Bowen tried to revive him. The doctors at Lautech just confirmed he had pulse and started demanding for the dean. Pls I don't have the strength to argue with you.
