In the distant past, God usually communicated details about the future to his human servants through visions, dreams and through angelic messengers. Hebrews 1:1
Those revelations had to be in harmony with God’s will and purpose else such a person would be termed a “false prophet” or “false dreamer”. Deuteronomy 13:1-5
That’s why the apostles Paul and John said that all those who want to worship God in spirit and truth must examine & scrutinize all statements they hear in order to know which comes from God and the one that doesn’t harmonize with God’s purpose comes from demons(1Timothy 4:1, 1John 4:1) because Satan can easily masquerade as an angel of light to deceive many. 2Corinthians 11:14

Let me use an example. For years now, I guess you’ve heard so-called “prophets” say that God told them in a dream that so-so politician is God’s chosen to lead a particular nation. Is that in harmony with God’s purpose when God’s chosen King is actually Jesus(Luke 1:31-33) and doesn’t the Bible also say that God doesn’t support any of these human governments instead he has set up his Kingdom/government which will soon destroy all these human governments? Daniel 2:44, Matthew 6:10

That’s just one out of a numerous examples. Bottom-line is, God no longer speaks to anybody today through dreams, visions and angelic messengers because he has spoken through his Son(Hebrews 1:2) and everything we need to know about the present, future and God’s purpose for mankind has already been related to us by Jesus at Matthew 24 & 25 and in the book of Revelations as well as other parts of the Bible. So anybody adding or subtracting to God’s Word by claiming that he still sees dreams or visions is doing himself great harm since everlasting life will never be his portion. Revelation 22:18-19
