South African roads

SA is currently building the largest road bridges in Africa as part of the vast Wild Coast road megaproject. The Mtentu Bridge will be the highest bridge built in Africa with a deck height of approximately 223 metres. The central beam span of 260 metres will also be a record for the African continent among beam bridges, and the 141 metre pier 9 will also be the tallest on the continent.

nearly about 50 percent of your GDP passes thru safaricom( A single company) . that is a serious threat no sane country will want to entertain.

Ghana-More than 100% passes through MTN a foreign company. At least Safaricom is majority owned by Kenya gov+Public. Vodafone(through vodacom) only has 40%. Now imagine MTN South Africa is running your finances.

As for M-pesa - remember the money really doesn't reside in Safaricom - it reside in an ESCROW account in local banks.

If they get Ethiopia license - they could go as high as 30B. Ethiopia is huge untapped market - with 40% market penetration.

Could Safaricom outbid MTN? That is the question.

MTN does less than 55 percent shares of Ghana market , they are still major competitor like airtel-tigo ( which is now 100 percent government owned and Vodafone in the market . hence MTN is not holding Ghana destiny as safaricom does to Kenya. safaricom is the dominanant payment system in your hell-zone . in Ghana, there is a level play ground for business to thrive among major competitor.

The other major telecommunication in your backwater has no option rather than to create synergy to compete with a single company whose major owner are in United kingdom(they own about 40 percent shares).

MTN Ghana has about 30 percent of her share owned by Ghanaian thru public offer.

Arrant nonsense from ignorant Bonobo. Kenya telcom has 60% Safaricom; 30% Airtel:10% Telkom; When it come to mobile money - MTN has 90% plus - and Safaricom has 95% - same issues - except for Ghana - You don't own MTN. Kenya gov is 2nd largest sharehold with 35% after vodafone; 40%; balance held by public and previously held 60% of the shareholding;

Kenya is not Ghana backwater - BONOBO country that cannot manage natural resources.

It will - Safaricom is backed by 5 partners including Vodafone. MTN by I think only by Chinese. Ethiopia are interested in Mobile Money - M-pesa.

But vodacom is still majority own by Vodafone(65%). So you can say out of 35% ownership of Safaricom - 22% almost is owned by Vodafone (Brits) - and only 12% by South Africans public.
