Cost Benefit Of Red Interlocking Block Over Conventional Block by Emmelix(m): 3:10am On Feb 28, 2021 |
If you've ever asked yourself what the benefit of using interlocking block over the conventional block...then this post will be a good read for you. In these post I will reveal: The benefit of using interlocking blocks over the conventional blocks… And… I will address all of the possible objections you might be having about this alternative building system like: Will the interlocking block not swell when it rains or comes in contact with water… Will it be possible to deploy a conduit wiring system since this interlocking block(which is also known as a hydraform interlocking block) is not hollow like the sandcrete Block...And lots more. Without any further ado let's dive into this alternative building system hole. Alright here we go! What is the benefit of the ''interlocking block'' over the conventional block There are lots of benefits the interlocking block has over the conversional block that make people opt for it. 1...The (hydraform) interlocking block is stronger than the conversional block and has a higher compressive strength. This is as a result of the percentage of cement used in producing the block and also because the fine aggregate used(laterite) has clay content which binds very well with cement. Also the interlocking block is not hollow,it doesn't have holes like the sandcrete block. 2...houses built with the interlocking blocks last longer than those built with conventional blocks. 3...the interlocking block has a special thermal property. It has the ability to keep the temperature inside the house cool when the temperature outside the house is hot. And keeps the temperature inside warm when it's hot outside. And everybody's favorite... 4...The alternative building system is cost effective. Cost of building a house with the red interlocking bricks or blocks as some will call it is 25% Less when compared to the same house built with the conventional building system. I know you are asking how. Let me explain: **With the interlocking block, you don't need mortar to hold them together **You don't paint **You don't need to render the external wall and even the internal too( but though some people usually render their's… **You see because you don't need mortar, painting and even rendering you safe money in all these areas. But… If it were to be the conventional building system there is no way around it. To drive home this point let's look at an example: The number of conventional blocks needed for a 3 bedroom all ensuite bungalow should be say 4000 blocks. Since the conventional blocks require mortar to hold the blocks in place. Let's calculate the cement you will need for the mortar. For a standard mix ratio a bag of cement is needed to hold or set 40 blocks. So for 4000 blocks…''you need 80 BAGS of cement!'' A bag of cement is currently 3000 naira...so the total cost of 80 bags will be N240,000 So you will be spending 240,000( two hundred and forty thousand naira on the cement needed for the mortar to hold the blocks in place) But….with the interlocking block you will save the N240,000...or better still you will not need to spend that amount. Then there is the cost of sharp sand needed for the mortar. Am not going to expand this or do the calculation. I will leave you to just imagine what the cost will be and add it to the cost of the cement… Whatever figure you come up with is what you will save if you use interlocking bricks instead of conventional blocks. Little wonder this alternative building system has largely been adopted and governments of countries like South Africa, Ivory Coast, Kenya are investing heavily in this building system. Also in the beginning of this post I said we will address some possible questions or objections you might be having about the hydraform building system...about building homes with red interlocking blocks. I call these objections because these are questions that prevent one from actually adopting or opting to use this building system. Matter of fact these are the questions prospects or enquirer asks me each time they call. Question: Will the house or wall not fall since the interlocking block is not held together with mortar My answer: No it will not fall. The walls formed by dry starking the interlocking blocks have columns every three meters. Question: Will water not penetrate or pass through the interlocking joints(since it's not been held together with mortar) and into the house My answer: Water can't penetrate or pass through the joints and into the house or building. Question:/Will the interlocking block not swell when it rains My answer: No it will not swell. I know the find aggregate we use in producing the interlocking block has lots of clay content in it but because we added cement(10%) for stabilizations...when it comes in contact with water the cement prevent the laterite from absorbing water! Question: Will i still be able to do conduit wiring if I use interlocking block( and knowing the block is not hollow) My answer: Yes! As a matter of fact all the the building we have done using the interlocking block the wiring system we deployed is conduit wiring system. There is a way to get or fix the pipes inside the wall... Question: Do I need to paint and render the walls My answer: With the interlocking block or hydraform alternative building system you don't paint. What will be done is the block will only be polished with vanish! Since you only need to polish there is no need for rendering or plastering. But… Some clients like you seldom render the interior wall because they want it to have the same finishing or feel like the conventional building. If you are a resident of EPE read this. Do you know you can build your dream home for 25% less than what it would cost others to build same home in EPE. I said 25% less and it wasn't a mistake or a typographical error! You are curious to know how right? Well, let me explain: At Hydraform block homes helping clients like you build homes with alternative building systems is our fonte, and one of the systems we deploy right now is the use of red interlocking blocks. These blocks are made from the mixture of red laterite(which are usually cheaper than sharp sand and ...even abundant in EPE!) Cement and small quantity of water. In Epe laterite are readily available...they are sold for a penny in most of the Burrough pits And will be affordable to transport to your site. These blocks are dry starked, they don't need mortar to hold them together because it has a special feature that makes it easy for them to interlock onto another. The money you save from not buying cement and sharp sand that would have been used for mortar is really 'mind boggling' yet most people in Epe don't know this and still build their house with conventional blocks. Not to mention the fact that red interlocking block walls don't need rendering (though most clients still go ahead to plaster the walls inside the house) and what this means is, you still save money. The money you would have spent on cement, plaster sand and labour cost. Let me drive this point home with a quick calculation so you can see the numbers yourself. Let's take cement for example: The cement needed for mortar in a ''4000 block 3bedroom bungalow'' You need 1 bag of cement to set 50blocks So for 4000 blocks you need 80bags of cement. The price of cement is currently 3200 naira… The cost of 80bags will be N256,000 You will save 256,000 for cement alone (that would have been used for mortar) if you are building with red interlocking blocks in epe… How about what you will save because the interlocking block doesn't need plastering. Amazing right! Well… That's why if you are in EPE( or any parts in Nigeria that has laterote in abundance) and want to build a house you should be using a red interlocking block and not the conventional block. We have helped clients like you build with these blocks and they were happy when they found out how much they saved because they use red interlocking blocks(...or Hydra form interlocking blocks are other calls it). Our yard is in EPE so we know the terrain very well. If you want to learn more about this building system call us today 08061164526 |
