See , you are still a newbie in Anambra politics. I started following Obi while I was still in Nigeria , and because of this I can tell you the history of Anambra politics since '99.

Obaze was disqualified in the primaries due to the fact he didn't have a voters card. After that John Emeka was the most popular but Obi thought he doesn't have the money to run campaigns. Obiano surfaced after Obi convinced him to run.

The former Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Dr. Alex Otti, has cleared the air of doubts in the minds of cynics who believe that the N75 billion savings the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, left for the State was a hoax.

Otti, in a statement, praised Obi for his financial prudence which enabled him to save up N75 billion in both local and foreign currencies for Anambra State as a governor before leaving office. According to him, the dollar component of the savings is now worth over N95 billion.

Otti explained that it was through a high level of managerial ability that Obi was able to achieve a great financial feat ‘in a state that was reputed to have been owing civil servants and pensioners’, by clearing off all debts inherited from his predecessor and still left behind a fortune for his successor.

Confirming the N75 billion savings, Otti, who was the Chairman of Diamond Bank, one of the banks where the money was domiciled, stated again, as he had done many times before, that Obi left a whopping N75 billion for the future generation of the state

Obi did a lot especially in his second tenure when Obaze came on board and provided useful advise including the focus on UN MDGs, partnerships with donor agencies and the idea of saving funds in order to access cheap capital. People should credit Obi for building lots of valuable state roads, improving the health and education sector and reconstructing the old Enugu road from Nkpor to Amansea along with the federal expressway from headbridge to Umunya. Obi attracted the single biggest investment to Anambra state to date which was the hero brewery, built a befitting secretariat, helped innoson motors get off the ground, set in motion the building of shopping malls, the Agulu Lake Hotel and the Awka stadium.

The criticism of Obi is that in his haste to build a lot of the work was of poor quality. A lot of the state roads are riddled with potholes. He had the bad habit of using poor contractors on state roads instead of the likes of RCC which Ngige used. Also what they built at amaku hospital was shockingly shoddy.

Obiano has built his legacy on grand projects from the Omor bridge to the Umuleri airport. However, what is often missing in his grand visions is good execution because he relies on friends and acquaintances for guidance rather than standard processes of public procurement.

It is why he has followed the trend of patronising unproven contractors including the likes of IDC whom Obi brought to the state and made a mess of unizik junction footbridge and awka flyovers. The conference center was not awarded in a proper manner and they made a mess of the roofing plan before zcc stepped in and in the recent video have bs artists talking about retracting seats, bank halls and other nonsense when everywhere in the world what matters is partitioning walls, audio, visual, communication facilities, and parking. The seating plan usually depends on the event.
