Two things you should know

1. What you should know is that people don't actually sell money, the people in these photos could be doing what they call currency exchange. This is the process of exchanging dollars to get pounds and vice versa.

Example: A dollar is currently exchanged with 408 naira, if you go to the trade fair with a dollar, you'll be given at the exchange rate for naira and they'll deduct their interest. The traders in the trade fair can also exchange your naira to give you a dollar in return, they also charge their interest.

For instance, you may be given 360 naira for a dollar while it's currently exchanged at 408 naira, the 48 naira left behind is their interest or workmanship.

If you want to exchange your naira for a dollar, you may pay 500 naira to get a dollar, the money they added is their interest or workmanship.

People do go to the trade fair with foreign currencies and exchange them for usable currency within the country.

To clear the confusion and doubts, the people in these photos aren't selling money, though you could put it that they're selling money but the right word for it is "currency exchange."

2. You could also say that they're using money to practice "trade by barter". This is when you go to the trade fair with a valuable asset and you exchange it for money which is no different from buying with money.

Aside from these two explanations, I don't think there's any possible explanation for what's going on in the photos above because we can't sell money, we buy with money and exchange currencies or exchange our valuable assets to get money.

That is not Somalia 'per se'. That's Somaliland. The breakaway Republic of Somaliland. Those currency in those stores and wheelbarrows are Somaliland shilling notes.
