They have used that trick on me before, and got stuck in traffic and my fuel finished in the middle of the road, chai, other angry commuters insult my life that dat embarassed
I had to role my car to a road side and used keke napep with gallon to go look for fuel, it was later I went back to the filling station and slapped the living day light outa the attendance, I choked him on the neck and was pressing it hard to make sure he barely breaths, before others came and separated us and he start to confess. angry

This is what they do, they press the nozzle to the end and hold it tight, the nozzle will be dispensing air instead of gas, and it will read like it's dispensing gas.

What u did is what I would have done if I was in your shoes and more cool

Make we see who go loose las las, idiots

But why would pressing the nozzle to the end bring out only air, nawaoo

Welcome to the club Poco
It's a normal thing these days so when you manage to find a gas station with better value for money, try to stick with them.

I have seen it all, from buying black market fuel at a gas station to buying fuel mixed with either kerosene/diesel to being scammed by putting air instead of fuel to not resetting the meter before adding the fuel.

Last scam was at NNPC gas station. Right before my very eyes, guy with a brand new 20ltrs keg bought fuel with meter reading above 24ltrs and the keg was just 3/4 full.
I still bought the little that'll take me to the office.

The most dramatic was at mobil awolowo way
The lady didn't reset the meter and started selling from 3k for a prepaid POS bill of 6k. I was in my suv, dressed very official with Suit, Tie and Starched shirt. Maybe that was what deceived her, she profiled me wrong.

when she was done, I calmly told her to add remaining fuel, this lady started insulting me, inviting her colleagues to come and help her out of the impending oppression. They came to her aid and were asking me silly questions. I simply alighted from the vehicle, removed my suit jacket, tie and Starched shirt and was in my white inner t-shirt.

I was ready to show them the definition of crazy.
I already had my processes planned out, my plan was to grab the nozzle from her, serve myself my money's worth and anybody in the way would have had the crazy in full. That's exactly what I did and slowly drove off, no words.

Sometimes they need to understand that they cannot get away with it Everytime!

I'm so happy you acted that way, but just get there on time tomorrow and get your crazy hat on because they'll still test your ruggedity. Don't go alone, but I'd have preferred you not take the POS and resolve it immediately. They all know the drill and most of the attendants there do it so it's not new to them. when they see better crazy, they comport.

Let me enlighten you.

This is what they do, they will set/program the exact amount you want to buy but immediately you look away from the metre, they will put back the nozzle, once they do this without completing the exact amount they have programmed, the amount will be blinking on the metre that's to tell that they haven't reached the programmed amount on the metre.

But many customers don't know so once they tell you your fuel is complete, you look at the metre and see the amount blinking, to you, you assume its complete but its not.

Normally, once they programmed an amount, and they sell it completely, the amount its supposed to be stable on the metre and not blink.

Learnt a new one

there is no way of doing this, the gauge is compromised. or they pre-program it to count from the said amount.

What happened was the guy probably sold like 3 or 4k before you came and didnt reset the pump and pumped to 5k.

It's a normal runs but we all know and let them know before they start pumping.

Ok nice info. But how do you know the pump has been reset? Is it by the attendant punching the amount of fuel you want to buy with the button?

I swear you deserve an award for what you did. I'm so happy that you were smart enough to detect and even punish the thieving mollusc.

I watch my distance covered before I fill my tank due to my accountability nature. I also do so in order to know if the consumption is malfunctioning. Anyway na habit. In this light everytime I want to fill I check, and fill it with 11000 worth and 1500 injector cleaner. Even the guy selling once he sees me he does it without asking. A day came I met someone else at the nozzle. Wetin concern me I just said put 11000 with injector cleaner. After sometime he said he was done. The indicator went a notch past half. Bros why na. This thing no full. The guy just started insulting me in Yoruba. Na question I ask na insult he bring. I was speaking English O. Trying to calm down na so the guy insult my mama join. Na there my control fuse blow. I just reverse block the "in" gate, parked, wound up my glasses, went to the guy and dealt him a resounding slap. That day they saw hell. Them beg me with fuel. Use keg carry am from pump go their gate top my fuel with hose I no still gree. That day for them be like Christmas. Them enjoy my weyrey. Omo since then na nnpc O. Unless when better owu blow me wey no cash na him I dey use others.

Pele poco. Use nnpc next time

I experienced this at an NNPC Station in Enugu, some of them are worse oooooo

How do I know when they didn’t reset it?

You will keep watching the figures move till it gets to 5000. They do it for those who either don't get out of their cars or who they feel don't know much about cars and may not have any idea of their wayo.

Those fuel attendants can make you loose like your cool. It's better to just beg for tips than steal.
My own episodes are always extra charges when inputing into d POS,in the range of 500 to 1000.
I always demand and ensure they pay me back because anytime I drive into a gas station, my guard is always up.

if you're using your brain , you will know since she left the station with the car, the fuel attendant will say she has removed the fuel from the car tank.

What she did if the fuel station follow her up she will land in trouble, she acted foolishly.

Watch how the hold the nozzle when dispensing fuel, the normal way to hold a nozzle is half way, pressing it to the end will withhold the fuel and only air and little amount of fuel will be dispensed

He did reset it.
They alter these pump numbers in the middle of the night.

It's jumping numbers in very high margin.

That has been in existence since.
When the regulatory body come without notice that's the first thing they go for, then you will roger on ground cos if they take you to office, more kpese.

Nigeria has gone to the dogs since
Altering pumps number is organisational fraud against the company and not the customer buying products.
What they do most times is if they sold for car A for 4k, and u r in a hurry to buy and u dont step down from the car, and they dont do this to their regular customer so it wont burst their bubble. They will not reset the pump but continue from that 4k and dispense for u.
I don buy fuel tire for this life.
I know how metres work. No metre will pump air.... Not possible. Its either they reduce the metre capacity to shortchanged customers or the pumo attendant play smart one on u.

Any filling station I'm entering the first time, I usually go there with my 10 litres container. After filling my tank I ask them to add extra 1,500 own in the container. This is my own way of assessing their gauge and ensuring they didn't just blow air into my tank.
People are desperate.

See I don't have time to Debate with unwise people like you.

If you know that the law is base on evidence not assumptions.

Immediately she left the fuel station with her car, she has killed the evidence she would have use in court.

Leaving the fuel station with the pos she disrupted their sales for that day, tarnishing the image of the fuel station in front of other customers, calling the fuel attendant a thief. The damages for that if she if found guilty in court would be much, she can sell whatever she drove without meeting up the payment.

Nairaland is for you to listen to wise counsel not to bring up your village idea it won't fly.

Have a nice day.

End up in jail indeed. Is that how people end up in jail? Then all the irate customers would be in jail by now. grin grin
People end up in jail for walking at the wrong time and have to part with bail money grin
Those irate customers usually don't take the station's things with them.

They should go spend their money on court case, let NPF milk them very well. Last last, they will find way to go buy new POS.
Such people are't interested in court cases because they are not clean. They rely on police and make money for them. I have seen ridiculous reports built on more shaky legs.

It is much easier to report that a lady who was forced to pay for fuel "stole" their POS while leaving than another who damaged their dispenser over a disagreement

But since they don't know you and can't track you. You don't need to watch your back undecided
