Many of you guys overrated or overhyped VDB. He is a good player but not the level of player some of you think he is.

I remember when I was debating with Kagawa a couple of years ago and raised concerns about his passing. How can you be playing in a dominant possession based midfield and you are passing the ball 25 times and your partner is passing the ball 75 times. The 2nd guy is a controller while the first guy is just a football hyena.

Some players are highly dependent on systems but it might not be obvious at the start. That is why not everybody in the Porto team of 2004 was that good even though most of them got good moves. Same with that Ajax team. Even Z-yansh looked way better in Ajax, and that system carried a borderline Premier League flop like Tadic into the UEFA Squad of the season and Ballon D’Or list.
The guys that made the decision to sign him have access to all the technical information to evaluate his style vis a vis what Ole wants in his team, it's either they didn't do their home work or thought he was good enough to fit into the team to have splashed the cash...If I am not mistaken, he cost over £35m that's not small money to throw around.

I went overboard as expected, but we can't depend on IF.

So tell me, has it happened before?

If no, why the conclusion?

Looll, the goals were very helpful na? Check the times both goals were scored and how many we had put past the opponents before he scored.
Yeah, he definitely scored the 4th goal against Newcastle!

Nolito came in at around 30 years. While not everyone will succeed under very good managers, Nolito is not a good example for me

It's that simple.

I dont want to see them, anywhere near Super Cup. Pep will humiliate them.

Considering how they rendered Madrid ineffective, and the confidence they're currently on, I bet on them to win the trophy.

A player scored in 3 matches he played in a row, but he didn't pick form?

I watched the full match, Arsenal were unlucky but were completely out of their depth, their season depends on this match yet they put in such a dispirited performance with zero urgency.

I don't know if its Emery or this Villareal side is dogshit. Some of their key players include Etienne Capoue, Justin Foyth, Coqeline all who are EPL bottom-team level. They also have past-it players like Dani Perejo, Paco Alcacer and Carlos Bacca, and a 36-year Old Raul Albiol as key defender. Their poor quality showed over the 2 legs versus Arsenal, Arteta was just inept to take advantage. I expect us to breeze past them with Pogba and Bruno in Midfield.

Very true. Initially wanted Arsenal to win for sake of 'all-English' European finals, but Villareal's performance was so enticing. Cavani will have them for dinner.

I'll say bring on Chelsea right now, for some reason I think we can handle them.

Which reason? cheesy

Let's be realistic please. That team is well coached, they eliminated 3 of Spain top 4 clubs to get to the finals.

I know Ole has beaten Tuchel before at PSG, but the confidence they (Shekpe) have now is over the top, and that's not a good thing.

I hope City beats them (damn the Guardiola-Fergie comparisons), but logically speaking, they might win.

After watching united last night nko?

Oh lol.. can't judge with that match considering that they already won the tie in the 1st leg.

Villareal on the other hand needed not to concede a goal, and luck was clearly on their side (I watched the 2nd half). They play like the type of team United loves to beat. We just have to ensure we don't make it hard for ourselves by missing chances and giving them hope.

We signed Fellaini around the same time we signed Mata. There is no rhyme or reason to our lives bro. When have we ever been accused of doing our home work?

This is not an excuse for Amaka but this narrative that VDB was this midfield maestro at Ajax should slow down. He was averaging 25 passes per game when the real maestro De Jong was averaging 75 passes.
Averaging 25 passes in a possession based midfield that was facing shoemakers and other semi-pros in the Dutch league is almost criminal.

Then the 2nd narrative that because he was so good there (questionable) he has to be good here is also wrong. There are 1001 examples to show that it is not automatic.

With the way VDB plays the only position he can slot into easily is the AM position, but this has been colonised by Bruno. You can’t play CM in the EPL and just be ghosting into the box and not contribute to passing in midfield.

In order to play central midfield here he has to adjust his game a little. Reduce the ghosting into box and contribute more to real midfield play.

Meanwhile if Amaka loses to this Villarreal side he deserves the sack.

Ok.. maybe I'll give Pep a little credit for that but from reading his Players Tribune piece, I also remember De Bruyne possesses a level of tactical intellect that allows him play nearly any outfield position with competency.

De Bruyne would have gotten better with or without Pep's input.
