Good advice
Ceenacks:
This story appears made up, but if it is real, then ur family is into greed and could land ursef into trouble.

So if it were debit of 3m thrown into ur mum acct in d first place, would u hv started paying it up?

No family in this earth shd see such erroneous transfer and strt spending sharp sharp. Even if its d poorest on earth.

Sth u dont about. Well, u r inviting trouble. If EFCC trace that fraud to ur mum acct, i m afraid u dnt hv any alibi again. And they wil, soon or later. Write an affidavit, make up d fund, give the bank consent to transfer it to the exact account it came from, narrating CONSENT TO REVERSE UNSOLICITED ERRONEOUS TRANSFER.

Government or no government, dat wil give u back ur freedom. Such money dont digest. Forget all these advises they r giving u here, the same ppl wil write abt u wen u go down. A word is enof..

Whizzdom:
On Sunday, last two weeks my mom got a bank alert notification, someone sent her 3 million naira, she wasn't expecting money from anyone.

She was shocked, she called I and my younger sister. We couldn't believe it, so we waited for three days to see if the bank will reverse the money, they didn't, so I and my sister took our mom's ATM card to withdraw and test if the money was genuine.

We bought three phones from it. That's when we believed it was real. Then I transferred #50,000 to my bank and transferred #50k into my mom's other account which we used for foodstuffs.

On the fifth day the bank froze the remaining balance of the huge money sent. But no bank official or staff called my mom. That week passed, on the 3rd day of the second week, one lady called my mom by phone in the afternoon, she said her name is Sarah from so so bank.

My mom is not literate so they spoken in pidgin, she told my mom that she knows that my mom received a #3mil last two weeks and she has spent out of it. That the money was government money. Sarah told my mom to go to any nearest ........bank and write a mandate letter authorizing the bank to unfreeze the remaining #2mil in her acct and the bank will give us the beneficiary account which she will send the money back to. And we should return the money we spent out of it immediately.

When we got to my mom's bank, we went to customer agent area, instead of writing the mandate letter, we told the agent everything that happened leaving nothing untouched. the agent said we should give him the number of the staff that called us, when he called the Sarah with his phone, Sarah gave him another name, instead of introducing herself as Sarah, she said her name is Evelyn. She now told the agent to hold my mom down till she (Evelyn) gets to that bank to arrest my mom or whatever.

The agent said on what basis would he hold my mom down. The agent checked the description when the money was sent and he couldn't understand the description. He was saying how could this be government money. He told my mom to try and return the money spent and he told us to go.

The description on the transfer when it came in on Sunday was: "National Procurement of Scanners" #3million.

Is this truly a government money?

Nairalanders what are your opinions? Because my mom is scared, Sarah or Evelyn bullied her on the phone with jail time.

I don't know what to do.

Simple Solution

Get a lawyer and brief him on the matter. Your mom committed no crime.

She was on her own when money came into her account.
She had wanted to seek for avenue of borrowing money from wherever, then the money came in, so she used part of it to solve her pressing problems.

So, in as much as your mom did not claim ownership of the money, she has committed no offence.

Let her promise to pay the spent part when she gets it. Even the courts will understand that a woman spent part of money kept in her custody and promised to pay back when she gets it.

NB: that Sarah or Evelyn is not to be trusted. EFCC must be involved before the remaining money will be send to any person or entity.

GET A LAWYER. THAT'S MY INITIAL WORDS.

This is corruption money... Somebody in government is busy stealing billions.
Ask the bank to unfreeze your mum's account, that you want to send it back to the owners account, and transfer the fund to another account that you own.
Keep it there... If you are currently staying in a rented apartment, change your location to new one and live your life from the national cake slice that came your way.

@op, Ur mums account was used as a conduit, I bet u that money is into hundreds of millions of not billions of naira and so many other accounts have been used as well as Ur mum's.
Leave d money like that. I can tell u that d money will be there for d next 10yrs cos they would want her to transfer d money to a designated account and that is how all d money will be aggregated into d designated account and later u will hear one govt aide saying they are monetary gifts.
MY GUY, U ARE RIGHT IN WHAT U SAY.
AS FOR OP, I WILL ADVISE U TO LEAVE THE MONEY IN YOUR ACCOUNT THE WAY IT IS..... LOOK FOR A WAY AND COMPLETE THE MONEY TO 3 MILLIÖN AND LEAVE IT THERE IN YOUR ACCOUNT, DON'T TRANSFER IT TO ANY OTHER ACCOUNT. I REPEAT DO NOT TRANFER THAT MONEY TO ANOTHER ACCOUNT.
LET SHE THAT PUT THE MONEY IO THERE BE SHE THAT WILL REMOVE THE MONEY, ELSE U IMPLICATE YOURSELVE.
U HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING BY REPORTING TO THE BANK... IF THE MONEY STAYS FOR 5YEAR, USE IT, IT IS YOURS

This is the law you can disagree all you like

There is case law to that effect in Nigeria where people who did the same thing are IN PRISON

383. Definition of stealing

to his own use or to the use of any other person
anything capable of being stolen, is said to steal that
thing.
(2) A person who takes or converts anything capable of being stolen IS deemed to do so
fraudulently If he does so with any of the following intents‐
(a) an intent permanently to deprive the owner of the thing of it;
(b) an intent permanently to deprive any person who has any special property in the thing
of such property;
(c) an intent to use the thing as a pledge or security;
(d) an intent to part with it on a condition as to its return which the person taking or
converting it may be unable to perform;
(e) an intent to deal with it in such a manner that it cannot be returned in the condition in
which it was at the time of the taking or conversion;
(f) in the case of money, an intent to use it at the will of the person who takes or converts
it, although he may intend afterwards to repay the amount to the owner
All these stories and the bolded doesn't apply here mister man, stop telling me what my brother experience in my eyes. A director from abuja mistakenly sent him a huge sum, he didn't get an alert. He called my brother telling him he made an error sending some money to his account and that he should pls return, my brother insisted he saw nothing cos he actually didn't see. On sunday evening, we got an alert n we went to the ATM but could not access the money not knowing its been frozen. Went to bank the next day n they told him its been unfrozen with apologies. He accessed his account then, spoke to the man and returned some as agreed by both parties. The bank said that's the best they could cos it wasn't their fault. The director even said he has given up on it. They there they talk gibberish.... No quote me again o. If you like transfer for a real gee... U go know.

To the Op, I recommend you read the story below:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/guardian.ng/news/ilorin-driver-sentenced-to-jail-over-n2million-credit-alert/amp

Lemme now tell you one thing, there is nowhere you can go to escape it, you will return the money. To mitigate your offence, (it is offence to spend money erroneously transferred into your account) try to see a lawyer.

I myself made a wrong transfer like that to a UBA account, I intended a First Bank but the two accounts share the same NUBAN. The story is long.... but I advise you to seek legal advice before they come for you.

Google EFCC office ikoyi and go and report yourself there. Those people thwt transfereed the money to you can turn around tomorrow and set you up. Just go and report yourself jejely before it turns into something else. Nothjng will happen to you.

PS

You and your siblings have put your innocent mother in trouble with the debits you made on the account. The account is in her name. If the money has crimjnal origins she's the one that will take the heat. You should know better.You are literate and went to school. Shame!

Keep calm. The money will eventually be yours. Though it may take up to 5years. Just note the description of the transaction with dates. After two years write your bank to unfreeze your account. But for now do not operate the account. Advise your mum not to use any of her other accounts if any for any transaction.
